Undefinable but rather entertaining comedy that could have taken itself more seriously
The ratings I'm giving are pretty much nonsensical. This series is pretty hard to review. It is a low-budget series that can be improved in quite a number of ways. The choreography of fight sequences, the editing and cinematography are not exactly impressive. On the other hand, there can be a lot of fun in story of a college for people with supernatural powers (which are determined by their star sighs).The absurdist and often self-reflexive humor with frequent allusions to Chinese pop songs can be entertaining even though the extent to which it works in the middle of the more serious scenes is debatable. While it is often a good thing that the story is not presented as one to be taken seriously, it seems that the production team has gone a little too far with this at times. It feels almost as if they merely decided to have fun, thinking that they can't possibly make anything great with the limited budget and other constraints. Yet, if they had just moderated the absurdism somewhat, the series would have been much better. I loved how the series focuses on the more glamorous characters while making a statement about the underdogs who are ignored. The minor characters who refer to themselves as minor characters brings to mind how even people who are not in the limelight or center of attention are often neglected. There is also the a character with the power of invisibility to good effect--he appears only occasionally (enough for us to remember) and reminds invisible until Episode 28 when he is revealed to have been quietly protecting the main female character. In life, many people go unnoticed, whether it is because of their personality, their class status or other reasons, and this is shown in a suitably understated manner.
At its best, the series makes use good use of whatever resources it has. The product placements, for instance, are often used in a way that enhances the humor. Apart from the premise of a battle of people with supernatural powers, there is the romance between the main male and female characters and even hints of BL in a comedy that is rather hard to define. I think the story was a little too rushed in the last few episodes--the beginning contains too much unimportant stuff related to the competition in the college and could have been made more compact so that the story can end properly. Perhaps a Season 2 was being considered, but I doubt it will be done.

Firstly, I chanced upon this drama and saw that the plot is set in a school and there was some superpowers involved, therefore I started watching it.
At first, the story proceeded with nothing unexpected, but it was still pretty interesting because of the conflict.
In terms of story throughout the whole series, there was really nothing that is worthy to be mentioned. The villains and heroine were predictable even if they were not explicitly mentioned. The element of tragedy is brought out abruptly when the series was about to end. The male lead's mother who was initially against the female and male lead's relationship due to the drastic difference in family background (just like any other dramas with a poor female lead and wealthy male lead) suddenly becomes very understanding of her son (?)
The flow of the story was very strange and the story took place too quickly and it was very confusing for me to catch up with the plot.
The plus point of this series was that the actors and actresses that were cast were mostly unfamiliar faces, yet they developed their assigned roles pretty well. The chemistry between the couples in the series were also well-displayed.
The music did not stand out much, so when I was watching the series, I skipped the drama to 1:30+ after the first episode.
In general, if you're looking to watch a show to pass time or looking to laugh (and the time to watch 30 episodes), you should check out this show out. However, it is definitely not one of the best shows I have seen.

Ok let me start talking about what i really think.. i think the story line will be perfect if they made this drama more siriosly... there r some parts it s really good but that best part cover up with really bad i mean silly comedy ????.. i love fantasy that s why i choose this one.. if they make this drama more siriosly like moorim school i sure it will become one of the best drama.. i really do love that power things... i firstly going to give this drama 5 stars but when i watched 29th episode i thought no this was rally good and want give 8 stars. I must say 29th episode is really superb..the way they team up to destroy enemies and how they face to fight with thire own friends, and the way they sacrificed it s really heart touching... but wht the hell they did to ending episode that is the worst episode ever ????????... chen ziang found her powr and found she also part of dark.. then she meke all of them unconscious.. and then she become good girl and booom white light and after 1 month ????????.. and no one knows what happend and the end chen ziang disappier and tht idiot enemies act same then what the hell she do ???? and here wan shi cun also alive who knows how.. ???? soo i cut some point and just give 6.5 just for 29th episode.. they should have make it better than this like' when she become good again she heal them all of them who ternd into evil infront of her frnds' it will be really touchingActing is ok i think they will do better if they got good script.. becoz of lame writing they should act like it no ???? but must say ther all arr good looking ❤️❤️❤️

Now, some of you may find this drama a waste your time but to each his own and all, I freaking loved it. I'm a fan of fantasy and comedy series and this drama had it all. The romance was a bit lackluster but well, I'm choosing to focus on the comedy aspect. This drama made me laugh from the beginning to the end, everything was so funnily silly or sillily funny, lol. I even got a BL vibe which made it all the more fun for me.The characters were all so endearing, including the villains.
My only complaint is the cliffhanger ending.
Chinese people with more power than us international viewers, please please request for season 2...

Superstar Academy is a hidden gem
For those who don't know, Superstar Academy is the first ever Xiao Zhan drama filmed together with other members of XNine. Xiao Zhan himself jokingly calls this drama his dark period and many fans struggle to watch it. And they are all wrong. They are losing a chance to watch and enjoy the masterpiece which Superstar Academy is. But first, you should know, it's not a regular youth drama, it's more a parody or Quentin Tarantino version of a Chinese youth drama. It's so bad that it makes it so good. But in fact, it's not bad at all, it's just in many cases surreal or sometimes looking cheap or naive. But if you won't look at this from the point of view of a regular youth drama, you'll appreciate the idea, the wit, the story, the setting, the costumes, and most of all the characters. Xiao Zhan plays the male lead role, Fang Tianze. I don't know if it's true what I've read somewhere, that he was not casted for that role, yet the director noticed him and find him a perfect man to take that job, though knowing Xiao Zhan's charisma that's highly probable. Fang Tianze seems to be a rich, handsome, and very spoiled hair of a powerful and wealthy family but he also has a secret. He lives in the World in which some people are born with special powers connected to the Zodiac signs and he attends a school for people with special abilities. I won't tell you more. But Xiao Zhan and other members of the cast have many brilliant and funny scenes, the story is very engaging and it's really worth watching. But keep in mind, to watch at least three episodes, they are really short. The first episode is not the most representative of the whole drama and is probably the reason why so many people drop the drama so early.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
