Ok I'm going to try to make this short...
So plot wise this story was a very heavy melodrama but for me it wasn't overpowering like most melodramas. It had a different feeling to me. A bittersweet feeling. It always felt as though even during the happy moments there were hard ones.
Yes this drama is painful to watch. It's a story of a forbidden love filled with heartbreak. What can you expect? I loved every single second of it though.
All of the cast gave of this real and raw energy. The emotions that they expressed just felt so real...
Park Shin Hye was only 16 at the time when she filmed this drama but she was able to portray a adult and someone who was being abused with ease. I was impressed not very many 16 year olds would be able to do what she did.
Lee Wan who I had never heard of before was great. He didn't speak for a large part of the drama but was able to express himself without talking. That's when you know their good actors.
I tried listening to the OST after finishing the drama but I kept on visualizing what had happened. The OST was astounding but I recommend waiting a few days before you start listening to it again.
I gave this a low re-watch value because for me it would be to hard watching this drama again..while knowing what happens.
I would say to everyone go and watch this drama! I highly recommend but do it when you are feeling happy and are in a good place.

This drama is so sad, tears falling down my cheeks TT_TT when watching it. My eyes were big and puffy too.
Just listen to the OST makes me cry a lot. I cried out loud too. That's how sad this movie is.
I rewatched Tree of Heaven, and I couldn't even bear the pain of this drama!
This is a really painful but beautiful drama.
The music is a great masterpiece, I love everything of this great drama.
Please watch this and feel the pain YoonSuh & Hana felt.
I recommend this to everyone, its watchable, painful, but yet, still beautiful.
I just am really obsessed with this sad sad sad... drama, just thinking of it is so sad.
I love it! I think you would too!
Its just 10 episodes that you'll enjoy, its not a waste of drama time!

This is a love story but not the cliche love that we see in some dramas. It's a story that will bring you joy, hope, love, sadness, and tears so you'll difinitely need tissues beside you. Even if you hate sad endings like myself, i still recommend it believe me you'll never regret it..
Everything about this drama is perfect. The cast was amazing, the main leads acted with their hearts that's why is feels so real. The music was relly good too and it interpreted how our leads feel about eachother and the difficulties they faced. Director Lee Jang-soo had a really brilliant eye, the way he captured the story was amazingly beautiful..

i wasnt wrong.
after the first episode i thought that was drama for ten.
positives
-incredibly talented actors made this heartbreaking story look real and touching
- music was perfect. fitted in every moment
-like i mentioned , the story was interesting , tearjerking and well developed in first couple of episodes
-i actually dont like characters like hana but this time she made her way towards my heart with her kindness and innocence.
-the epic end
-i could relate to yoon suh's pain :\\\ his character was the best
- quotes
-with all that sadness there were funny and heart warming moments
negatives :
- lack of action...i mean, the whole "second boss" deal could've been handled way better . they made huge deal out of yoon suhs dark present and at the end it ended poorly
-i dont want to spoil anyone but .. one of the characters feeling towards yoon suh came out of nowhere . i can smell poor character development here
- i liked hana in first few episodes.. but then she did some very stupid things so...
- main girl was often pushed into doing some things
-at the end the plot y development got worse..if they made it more than 10 eps, i think it would've been better
in the end there were many flaws..
it wasnt outstanding like i hoped it to be from the first ep but it was very good
drama managed to hug my heart and fill my eyes with tears
it was a great story of star-crossed lovers.

Second, this might not be for everyone. I had a friend that hated it. I had another friend that loved it and re-watched it a tons of times. Even my sister who was somebody who was rough, liked it a lot.
This story is a very unique love story. Unique in the sense that you never see it around these days... in dramas. It is innocent, raw and magical. Only by thinking in how deeply they loved each other makes me cry. I don't know how to explain it very well, but the way Yoonsuh loved Hana is magical. These actors were so brilliant, this writer is so brilliant that the love they created in these 10 episodes is surreal.
This is a love story, and a chilling one. You will cry throughout the episodes and feel your heart beating fast and have your breath taken away, with small things like: How YoonSuh looks at Hana, how he says her name, how he keeps promising to protect her, and how he tries so hard to contain his feelings for her, and when he cries.
You see the blossom of love in an autistic boy who only knew the snow, and how to breathe. He is rough, brute and rude. He didn't have anybody to teach him what was love and that's how he treated Hana at first and even worse anybody who treated Hana bad. She was the world to him. The whole world to him. He only wanted to cherish her and protect her. And thats what the story about.
You see, YoonSuh is a very emotional character, the kind of character that you will never forget, and makes you wish that somebody loved you as much as he loved Hana.
There are very memorable scenes in this drama and a set of amazing soundtracks, and when you see those scenes or listen to those songs in youtube or tumblr, or whatever, you will remember. As if it was your own story. Your body will remember, the chills, the sadness, the love.
Every song of this drama is memorable "His Whistle" will stay in your mind because it is YoonSuh's theme. It is filled with sadness, loneliness, pain, but also hope and love. "What Should I Do?" is very beautiful, and the lyrics are made for Yoonsuh too. It describes how YoonSuh feels about Hana in every single word. Lee Wan sings for the soundtrack and it is a beautiful more happy song than the rest of the OST.
I would like to recommend you to re-watch the drama after sometime. Let all your feelings settle down and be calm. Because it is intense and overwhelming.
I am rewatching this after 6 years (thats just too long haha). This was my very first Korean drama, and what brought me to the Hallyu Wave. Even though I memorized every scene, watching Lee Wan portraying YoonSuh surprises me everytime.
This is where I started my slight obsession for Park Shin Hye, she was my first Korean actress crush, and will still be. Seeing her in Doctors now, makes me think how much she evolved and changed.
Lee Wan, is amazing. I hope he keeps acting these days and grabs some big projects. He needs that. He is the brother of the legendary Kim Tae Hee, they need to collaborate in a project, and give his brother some popularity. People need to see him again.
(If you found some typo errors, I'm sorry I tried my best :P )

Now, let me make it clear that I do not enjoy melodramas. The constant turmoil and depressive situations of those kinds of dramas wear me out and turn me off. From most of the comments and reviews of Tree of Heaven, this was what I thought it was going to be. Something told me to watch it anyway, and I am so glad that I did. Make no mistake, though. There is conflict and it is a very emotional storyline. If you can't handle that sort of thing, if you want your drama a to always end up with sunshine, lollipops and rainbows, then you will probably not enjoy or appreciate this drama. If, like me, you enjoy well made, touching dramas, then you will not be disappointed if you give Tree of Heaven a try. Despite the conflicts and difficulties the main characters face, there are quite a few cute and sweet moments, and even one or two that might make you giggle. Those moments are why I cannot say that this is a straight melodrama.
This is about two people that have been lonely all their lives, that are brought together by the marriage of their parents. Both have gone through the pain of losing one of their parents, and so have a common bond. Despite her new oppa's autism and aloofness, Hana can immediately accept him without judgment, openly giving him her heart as his sister. Such love and acceptance touches Yoon Suh profoundly, and it is because of Hana that he is finally able to come out of his self-inflicted shell and begin to smile and laugh again. It is also the start of a deeper love for them both, one that is forbidden, for how can a brother and a sister love each other as lovers do? Being American, living in a society where, though such a thing might raise an eyebrow or two but is not unheard of or even illegal being as they are not blood related, I did have trouble fully understanding the taboo of the situation, at least at first. However, I have seen a couple of other dramas that touch briefly on this subject and so am aware that this is how it is in Korea and Japan, that once your parents marry, even if you are not blood related, by law and in society, it is seen as the same thing.
The cast, I think, was brilliant. Lee Wan as Yoon Suh did an amazing job first by portraying a young autistic man who had trouble dealing with new, powerful emotions, then later as a conflicted man caught between wanting to be beside the woman he loved and ultimately protecting her. Plus, he will absolutely melt your heart whenever he utters Hana's name. He does it so softly and with such tenderness.
I was especially impressed with Park Shin Hye's portrayal of Hana. I have liked her in the other dramas I have seen her in, especially You're Beautiful, but this was the first time I have seen her in a more serious, dramatic role. What makes it even more impressive was that she was very young when she acted in this. I think only sixteen. For being so young at the time, I think the casting was of her was brilliant. Even though her character was a couple of years older than her real age, I had no trouble seeing her as an 18-20 year old at all. Plus, her youth just made Hana's innocence and trust so natural.
In the end, if you decide to watch this drama, yes, you will get conflict and yes, it is very emotional. However, you will get a very moving, very beautiful love story, a love story more beautiful and haunting than most others that occur in dramas. It will stay in your mind and in your heart long after the final episode. I hope more people will give this drama a try and be touched as much as I was.

im a huge fan of PSH. I've seen heirs, doctors, Pinocchio.I always read comments about how park shin hye has the best chemistry with lee min ho. With lee jong suk
I used to think so too. But no. lee wan and her share the best chemistry. there was something very natural about their interactions. everytime they gazed into each other's eyes, I could feel the staggering love their characters shared for each other. my only complaint is that the drama was too sad. like throughout, it was just sad. I would have preferred an open ending. so that the viewers could come up with their idea of and ending. it wasn't fair, to watch the characters go through so much yet not have even one day as a true couple. good drama. but just too sad
