Just finished this drama, and the ending is pretty good. Of the three dramas that deal with returning to Kanxi's reign that I watched, Scarlet Heart, Palace, and this one, I think this one fits right in the middle in terms of a "happy ending," because Yinxiang was not able to travel to her time, but she meets his reincarnation, who has no memory of her. The story is well-written but not as well as the other two in my opinion. Everyone got good endings, even the evil sister, which is a surprise. When the drama ended, I didn't feel the need to watch a season 2, whereas for Palace and Scarlet Heart, I really wanted to watch a season 2.

The characters with the most character development were Yinti and Minghui. They actually changed their personalities at the end of the drama. So people who rooted for them and wanted to watch them instead shouldn't feel bad at all.

Great drama, a must watch!

I really like this drama, mainly because of the 2 main characters! 13th prince is really good looking and is a great actor for his young age (I hope that he will have lots of new dramas because I like watching his acting!). The main characters have excellent chemistry in all their scenes and it really warms my heart every time those two are together. 4th prince's character is well written, as he is depicted as a serious, just and loving character. I wish there are more scenes of 14th prince with MW. I really enjoyed the acting overall, especially the king.

The concept of the drama with the time travel is quite confusing but it doesn't bother me much as the romance story is very interesting and sweet. The villain (Ming Hui) really is EVIL! She appears in every single episode for a very long time, which is the MOST ANNOYING part of this drama. I really don't like her character, so I had to skip through a lot of scenes with her in it.

Highly recommend if you like good looking cast and sweet romance story! There is a bit of comedy too which is a huge bonus. The ending is satisfying.

Just so so

I was very excited to watch this series. And I started a with very little expectations or information about it however I hoped that it would be a good one because I enjoy historical pieces. Overall the series started out great. It was fun, interesting and upbeat. The beginning had a bit of an intrigue to it because you were able to see a little bit of both worlds and how each person lived. Even when the event happened that brought them together there was still a bit of excitement and humor.

What I liked:
The cast did an amazing job portraying royalty. The acting was wonderful. The wardrobes were perfect and the set/scenery always fit the mood. They loyalty/love that the ML had for his brother and wife was genuine and perfect. The ML remained unchanged in his role as smart, loyal and honest. It was nice to see this. The Female lead was just as loyal and even more determined while also maintaining her sense of honor. I loved it because you often see the opposite in these types. Music matched the mood and scenes which only added to the value.

What I didn’t like:
-There was plotting in nearly episode, so much so that it became unenjoyable. There was never a moment of peace or simple joy to enjoy, which made it feel like a stress session.
-The second FL was in to many places and doing to many things. Not sure how but it was overkill.
-There were so many moments that people acted on assumptions which demonstrates poor maturity, i.e, “my cat went missing near your house. It was you. You stole it” or “it’s your fault I’m miserable, if only you hadn’t came home early.” It’s things of this nature that frustrate me because in this time period assumptions often lead to death. This made most of them seem like greedy idiots.
-Chemistry between left the show and didn’t return.
-Extreme hatred/Revenge from what appears to be a one time event.
-The good guys appear to be the eternal underdogs. Although there were moments that were victorious, it appears that karma left the show with chemistry.

The show has its good points with makes it worth watching, however I would have enjoyed it a bit more if some of the characters had a shred of decency and the balance of power/upper hand didn’t feel so one sided. Also would have loved to see more interpersonal relationship dynamics.
It should be noted that karma was off set during filming.

This is not a romantic series. It’s a big time plotting historical drama that revolves around a couple that loves each other.

THIS IS A REAL MASTERPIECE

Firstly, this is my first review for this platform. Honestly, this is the very first time to have a drama series that is good as this one. They have a very sweet chemistry (super sweet that you will be bitten by ants in your seat). Paired with stunning music / OST (OMG, this is perfect). Lastly, being able to apply / reflect to this on my real life like when Minghui accepted the excellence award as an architect "There are countless paths of life, regardless of geographical distance, regardless of time. As long as we have the courage to oprn the door, there wull be always be a path on which we will have wonderful collisions and encounters. That path can make us gain happiness." And I think oh, don't stick to one mindset. WIDEN IT (T/N Tagalog "Palawakin ang Isipan") so that the more ideas you come up, the more possibilities that you'll succeed. I personally hope you will pay this piece an attention and you will have no regrets. P.S Just finished the series and I've shed tears on this.

Old Formula, New Magic

DREAMING BACK TO THE QING DYNASTY (Meng Hui Da Qing). This drama was way better than I was expecting, though not historically accurate. While I really liked the main heroine Ming Wei (Landi Li) from the start, I wasn't really expecting the rest of the cast to grow on me as well. There were so many good characters.

I would highly recommend this show to fans of the original Chinese drama Scarlet Heart (Bu Bu Jing Xin / Startling By Each Step) as there are some very strong similarities besides the most obvious fact of it taking place in the same historical era (under the reign of Emperor Kangxi) and having a time traveling main character from the future. Similar but not quite the same. As an old fan of Scarlet Heart, I was immediately attracted to the premise of this show, but was expecting a letdown. I was gladly mistaken. This is not a reboot of Scarlet Heart, as far as I know, so I recommend going into it expecting similarities as well as differences.

This show, however similar, had many of its own strengths and weaknesses. From the first episode you can tell there will be a love interest in the charming and quirky 13th Prince, Yin Xiang (Anyu Wang). It's cute but almost sappy, and at times the romantic music was a little much. I almost quit the show because insta-love is not my thing and it was a little too mushy right off the bat. BUT, as the show goes on, other love interests are mixed in, including 4th Prince, Yin Zhen (Qiao Ding) and 14th Prince, Yin Ti (Yunlai Xin). There is an underlying revenge/grudge plot with the character of Ming Hui (Anke Sun) that gives the show more tension, drama and adds some layers of mystery. All the characters are pretty great though.

I rated this 9/10 stars mainly because there were a few unanswered questions to some important issues that influenced the ending. Also the revenge/grudge storyline felt like it was lacking reasonable motive and resolution, especially considering it was a main plot point for most of the show. Also there were quite a few unrealistic elements that didn't fit the show and felt out of place. However, none of this made me dislike the show but only lowered believability.

Overall, it wasn't the same old thing that's been done before, but it does draw some obvious inspiration, in a good way. This was a very sweet drama, filled with new characters and familiar characters reimagined. After a few episodes I was finally drawn in and happy about it. Glad I gave it a shot. ((HEA ENDING))

I have watched numerous travel in time romance story. This one has the same setting as some of the other popular travel in time story (the qing dynasty) with similar princes involved. But its refreshing with a spin with the male lead and the female lead falling in love much earlier, with them going through the conflicts and challenges in unity as a couple. Even more refreshing is a different prince that the female lead end up with in this story instead of the prince in the other dramas. The way they tie this couple together is also refreshing with the "dream" part... but is actually real. So there is a few layer of perspective to it. I also liked how the drama ended with the time jar letters. ( i won't go into more specific so I don't spoil it for people). The male lead did a good job in his acting, it was nice to the chemistry they have. Good story overall. I didn't feel I wasted time after watching this, but finished with warmth in my heart.

Let's start by saying, "Yes, this drama is a typical time-traveling romance that is highly common in the Chinese drama world."

However, please don't jump into the conclusion that this drama is not worth your time for the theme only. Dreaming Back to The Qing Dynasty kicks out the story with a very strong female who has her job and dream in his hand. And then, she just gives up everything to find the one she loves along with solving some problems related to the future.

With such a storyline, DBTQD gives the different vibes from the other similar theme drama. It is also supported by a male lead who is very lovable (almost too perfect) who supports the female character fully (without being such a dominant patriarch), which is also rare in a historical romance drama. Their romance is very healthy that boosts their chemistry more.

The beginning of the drama is very interesting but then in the middle, they keep repeating the same problem which makes everyone bored. The side couples are really mediocre although the ending makes them look so cute. The princes, other than the main and second lead, are disturbing (character-wise). The actings for the main leads are convincing considering they have great chemistry. Others' are pretty okay. Their OSTs are too beautiful that I memorize all of them

It is highly recommended for you who love historical pure romance, without dark heavy scheming plots.

When a villain gets off scot-free

This is a time travel romance drama following a 21st century woman traveling back to the Qing dynasty and finding herself in the midst of a power struggle between members of the royal family.

The story focused on the ML/FL romance for the first 17 episodes. He appeared in her apartment, they fell in love, he went back, she followed him into the past. Both of them lost their memories and the romance started again. Overall, the romance was well written and they had good chemistry. The second half of the story did not focus so much on the main couple's romance but political intrigue.

My biggest problem with the show was the romance between the 14th prince Yin Ti and Ming Hui, and, I have a lot to say about it because the outcome left me speechless. This plotline was a perfect example of what happens when writers don't understand their own characters. I guess they wanted to give the 14th prince a happy ending, but they chose an absolutely terrible love interest for him. Min Hui kept regurgitating that her and Yin Ti were the same, so that's why they were supposedly a good match. But that was not the case. Although a cynic, Yin Ti had the right set of values and a strong sense of justice. He was completely appalled by the murder of Ming Wei's friend and did not like seeing innocents suffer. Ming Hui was the opposite. She had no problem harming people for personal gain or revenge, even people who had nothing to do with her conflict with her sister. She harmed people for simply associating with Ming Wei. Furthermore, Ming Hui had no sense of accountability and was completely devoid of any values and morals. And she was like this for the entirety of the show.

The only thing Ming Hui could fall back on for redemption was her deep emotional trauma from childhood abuse. But even that was written off and replaced with her superficial jealousy of Ming Wei. This was completely self-serving and made Ming Hui even more irredeemable. Moreover, after promising to do anything for the 14th prince, she continued to undermine him and do whatever she wanted to achieve her goals. Their relationship was not based on love and mutual trust. It was toxic to the core.

It's also important to note why Yin Ti fell in love with Ming Wei in the first place - her values and a deep sense of justice. This would have made it impossible for him to love Ming Hui because she was everything that he hated. But, the writers completely disregarded their own story. So, instead of introducing a female character that could've been a good match for the 14th, they manufactured his and Ming Hui's back story to justify their romance. The scene with the tiger was ridiculous and completely unbelievable.

Another issue was Ming Hui having too much presence at the palace without either being a court lady or a royal consort. She freely fraternized with the princes without anyone putting into question her reputation. She even went to the military barracks and was alone there with men without anyone addressing it. For a story where women were constantly disrespected, the princes gave her way too much credit considering she was "just a woman" based on their own reasoning. She basically played the entire imperial court all by herself.

There is no way I would give this drama a high rating because of Yin Ti/Ming Hui's atrocious pairing. She was a murderer and an instigator, but she never got punished and instead got a happy ending. What kind of message is this?

This is a good period drama that could’ve been great if only the leading couple’s romantic relationship would have been given more essence and time for their interpersonal connection; the second leading couple had a stronger and deeper “romantic” plot than the main couple. The writer(s) decided to make a great love that transcended time into a bland but innocent type of romantic relationship. For the rest, the drama excels in cinematography, costumes, choreography, and acting. There are some inconsistencies regarding plot and, although she had to die at the Qing Dynasty’s era to be able to come back from her “dream”, following her death, there was no interest in finding the killer. Also, the ending was good, but insipid; after her return to modern times, everyone else’s’ relationships from the Qing dynasty get a nicer resolution than the leading couple. Unless there’s going to be a second season, which doesn’t seem like it, the ending is not anything special. Still, it is not a bad drama to watch while waiting for a great one. Enjoy it!

OK TO WATCH IF NOTHING TO WATCH

Story is as expected, nothing new. The drama is very slow & draggy, can predict what is going to happen next.
Most of the leads acting, except the sister who acted as the villain, are not natural, still need much improvement. The actress who is the villain are the one impressed me. Haha…… If you have nothing else to watch, can watch once only. But the hair ornaments & dresses are beautiful. And the songs are really nice. Oh…., some of the CGI really poor, looked so fake, my gosh….

Bad editing ,,nice story ,a new form story

For the first i think the story may similar with scarlet heart, but its totally different!,i like the story, acting, and the OST very nice, the cast maybe a newbie but the acting not, very profesional,But The logic scene a lot of loophole
1.when yinzhen waking 13 (prince yinxiang) up at last of ep 1 and opening ep 2, i think its has been repeat?
2.the difficult explanation about physics is not make a sense
3.how she travel back is ridiculous, she travel back with his modern cloths its mean she not travel back with possess to real ming wei body, then when she being found where REAL ming wei body go?
4.at ep 12 when ming hui and 14 (yinti) talking weird editing
5.at ep 16 when xiao wei and 13 talking about first snow, SUDDENLY like flashback editing, then the next scene is xiao wei dreaming, what the f*ck editing? Its seem like been cut? But the episode minute 47? It not seem like being cut? Ridiculous editing, not like a editing of profesional editor 他们可以这样排戏,但是位置不对,如果这样的话,应该是在"想"她梦那件事的时候,不是真的再睡早,这样就变成不合理了吗。。。
6.how they help xiao chun escape from the jail? They should show the scene, not just how to make xiao chun out from the palace,it seem like not real, the scene just up to the director how they want to shoot, no need logic
7.ep 21 qi xiang gave yin zhen see the blankets then ask qi xiang why want to help him, then FLASHBACK AGAIN! How yin zhen cure xiao wei, what the meaning?!not make a sense
8. timing different with real history,, when restoring crown prince 1709 but, when yinzhen want to save xiao wei his consort say to him to consider hong li,its mean hong li already born at 1709, but hong li born when 1711
9. the reason for restoring crown prince not make a sense, its right he having affair with xiao chun, but why kangxi said he is being framed?
10. At ep 25 when 8 prince them discuss about xiao wei, ming hui said she very sure that woman "in the carriage she is her sister" ,but minghui and 14 saw mingwei when she unconscious at street
11. At ep 33 when YU NING (xiao wei) Back from the palace, then 13(yin xiang) talking to her just like he already know that she is from the future, didn't he already forget that? Why he say like that?
12. Ep 34 xiao wei said to qi xiang that ming hui also kill the real ming wei, that mean qi xiang already know xiao wei not the real ming wei?,its happen suddenly.... not have opening zzz, when qi xiang know???! OMG
13.then where the same lantern that bring her back to qing from?,she just bring back the pendant with her,but not the lantern right?
14.why the dead body of xiao wei not disappear? When she back to qing is wearing modern cloths its mean the body is her not REAL ming wei body.
15. Why she wake up at her own room? She travel back to qing dynasty at forbidden city

A lot of loophole,i like the story, but the story can be more perfect

TO CREATE SOMETHING EXCEPTIONAL, YOUR MINDSET MUST BE RELENTLESSLY FOCUSED ON THE SMALLEST DETAIL- giorgio armani

Ming Wei, a talented architect and intern, is gathering inspiration to combine two aesthetics: modern Chinese with the lux styling of the Qing Dynasty. While visiting the Forbidden City for research, she gets lost in the night haze which has creeped around the palace. Taking shelter in an abandoned part of the museum, she meets a mysterious resident who bestows her an ancient lantern. When Ming Wei finally makes her way home, she is surprised to find a ghost, from the Qing dynasty, quietly haunting her apartment (brought upon by the magical lamp). However, this isn't just any ghost, it's the 13th Prince, Ying Xiang. The two start to develop feelings for each other, but it seems impossible. I mean, how can one have a future with a ghost? When he disappears for good, Ming Wei wishes upon a shooting star, and she finds herself transported back to Qing dynasty. Only problem? Neither she, nor Ying Xiang remember their relationship! In a some-what historically true battle for the throne, Ming Wei finds herself in the middle of a love triangle (and it's a good one!) and being the target of a dangerous rival, Ming Hui.

There is a lot to like about this series. If you are a fan of Scarlet Heart, this was made by the same production team. However, they've amped it up in this series. The set design and costumes are breathtakingly detailed. This makes it almost worth the watch alone, but what's really good is the chemistry between the characters, including the sibling rivalry among brothers and the betrayal between sisters. I both laughed and cried throughout, and even remember thinking they did a good job blending the lighter romance between our leads, as well as some gasp-worthy theatrical scenes.
