A Great Fantasy
A great drama to watch. It is full off fantasy and great special affect. There is 3 good couples that are in the lead characters. The story line was well written and makes you mesmerizes from episodes to episodes. There is not much romance but the special affect are great. The cast is great , their performance made you believe in each character. I love the theme of humanity toward people and animals. The drama also has the subject of friendship and trusting one another. There is plenty of funny scenes that keeps a smile on you as you watch. The music is nice and the scene were they are on the road and they start playing made up instruments is great. The female in the drama are all strong and I like how they are treated equal as the male lead. A must drama to watch. The ending is the only thing that I was upset because it is a cliff hanger.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Short review of Douluo Continent
Douluo Continent was one of the famous novels in its own genre. It was a riveting drama I couldn't understand when it's finished. I like the back ground musics and I should say actors have done their best to show the identity of the characters they played. Strong girl Zhu Zhuqing and little princess Ron Rong were glowing in ShiLanKe school. Main character Tang San is appealing for everyone. Even though he knew that he has a hidden past, he didn't lose his hope and patiently waited, he was always respectful to his seniors and always protected his friends. I can't imagine fantasy drama/movies without cgi technology, I would be happy to see more of it in drama. When a serie has good adaptations, naturally it raises the level of expectations. Script of the drama fell behind of some expectations because of the fact that we couldn't reach the main story for a long and they decided take a different way from novel .That's why I suggest you to watch it leaving your hope to see the novel and approach it as a new version.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Enjoyable watch
Coming from someone who has never seen or heard of the anime, it was an enjoyable watch.I felt the beginning was definitely a bit slower and some acting parts were definitely a bit weird. The first crying scene from the lead felt weird. Could also be the way they cut it, but definitely felt kind of out of place.
The episodes also always end off at the weirdest spots. Literally cuts the speaker mid sentence.
The characters were all well developed and had solid background stories which is always great to see.
Halfway through though, I really started getting into it and the plot got more complicated with a lot of characters and fancy skills which were fun to watch. Can't wait to see season 2!

Original story and all original characters
I'm a huge fan of fantasy stories and even more when it's about competition between academies. I find the story refreshing and all characters different but amazing in their own way. All done perfectly to suit the group into a perfect combination of strong underdogs all learning in different experiences. Even with the lack of romantic interaction this drama can make you feel the love between the 4 couples that form in this drama and how the 4 of them are different. Specially for me my favorite cp is the second male lead but my favorite character is Xiao Wu.Xiao Wu is the perfect definition that you can be cute, strong and specially also love to fight. I've seen ppl mention her as annoying but I think they relate it to her cuteness and regarding her weak for that matter when in fact Xiao Wu is one of the smartest in the group and rarely acts scared but wants to take a challenge. I love this female lead, specially cause she's very loyal. For that matter I enjoy the family between the female leads as well. All of them have a bonding and not even one episode did it make them fight for their differences. All are strong female leads and all of them have different personalities.
Tang Sa story and mainly the main point of the story is like a video which I find enjoyable. I love games with this base of a story so watching this felt so good and so well done. I will admit the cgi was not the best in terms of the best but fighting scenes are a 10/10 for me. I highly recommend this drama, it lacks romantic scenes, yes but the story as a whole. The meaning of a family, friendship and loyalty is so well done that romance scenes feel like a bonus. I didn't have to skip an episode cause of them was a different and new story and rarely things get dragged

Abridged review
Like a Sentai show, only fancier. A group of young students who form a team and learn to be better and fight arm in arm to defeat the bad guys.- The Good: The Grandmaster, a true guide for Tang San + the other 2 teachers. The costumes. The team. The world-building.
- The Bad: The MC, Tang San and Xiao Wu: together and by themselves. So clingy, both of them, if he was going to the bathroom, she needed to go as well. And he visited her every morning to braid her hair :S She was supposedly strong, but has many "damsel in distress" moments and he was always trying to save her. "I will protect you, Tang San/Xiao Wu" moments x100000. Every time one of them was in real danger, the other was overacting like it was the end of the world.
Individually, Tang San is a Gary Stu and Xiao Wu has the tag of "Childish Female Character" which says everything. I don't know if it was because of their 2D characters only, but to me they were both the worst actors in the series, which pains me so much because I adore Xiao Zhan and he brings tears to my eyes every time he cries, but in this series, when he is listening to his mother talking for 10minutes straight, he just stands there crying like a fool for 10minutes straight. It pains me to say I laughed thinking it was bad acting, and this is XZ we are talking about :(
Also, the bgm: what with that song in the background at the least imaginable moments! The song is nice, kinda like a music box, but it didn't suit ANY of the moments and it made my skin crawl.
It would have been a good fantasy drama if the MC weren't Gary Stu and Childish Female character...

This gave me such joy!
No spoilers = I'll vague speak for you. No worries.I'll start by saying that I'm a fan of Xiao Zhan and had never seen anything with the other actors/actresses before, so I initially picked it up because of him and when I went in, all I knew was that it was a fantasy of some sort. I never read/saw any of the other iterations of this story.
The first episode was kind of draggy? Not bad. It just could've been shortened a bit. After that though, the story picked up fairly quickly and other characters began to get introduced. Like the FL, Wu Xuan Yi. I think she did her role wonderfully and was the very personification of bunny-like. (I've heard people say they didn't like her, but...I don't get it.)
I enjoyed the other members of the academy too and the bonds of friendship and family they developed. Actually all the relationships in the story had good foundation, etc. Easily one of my favorite parts. The little romance there was was more like an after thought, but as someone who prefers romance in all things just about, I didn't think the lack detracted from my enjoyment at all. It felt like the good sort of tease.
I heard some people say negative things about the CGI and honestly, I didn't notice anything. I thought it was good. Personally, I think the naysayers have got to have a microscope or are just looking for something to find fault with, in which case, you're inevitably bound to find something out of nothing. But, nothing stood out to me. There were no neon red signs saying, "This is such crap-tastic CGI work. How dare they? Etc."
The plot was interesting and novel to me. I haven't seen anything else like it. Refreshing.
It was family oriented so I would have no problems watching it with either my mom or my little monsters, some of who are kind of picky. There was enough quality and something in it that each of us would enjoy. Action. Story. Magic-ish. A worthy hero. Adventure. Etc.
My only issue is with the way it ended. I heard there's going to be a sequel? My fingers are crossed. I need more. But, going in as someone with no knowledge of the source material, I felt the ending was a little lackluster. The journey to get there though was phenomenal.
Would I recommend? For sure. 10/10.

THE BEST DRAMA EVER!!!
THIS IS THE BEST DRAMA EVER OUT OF THE 200 OR SO DRAMAS I WATCHED. Sean Xiao's acting was AWESOME. The chemistry between the ML and the FL was the best to me. Unfortunately, I do not like the ending as if it leaves a cliff hanger. I REALLY WANT A SEASON 2 TO THIS DRAMA. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO LET EVERYONE WATCH THIS DRAMA. And most importantly, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD OR DO SOMETHING TO MAKE THE 2ND SEASON OF THIS. I SERIOUSLY CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SECOND SEASON. I hope all the casts, crews, members, staff will all get together again to make the 2nd season of this. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO MAKE THE 2ND SEASON FOR THIS DRAMA.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

A Not So Good Adaptation
Whoever wrote, directed, produced this could not have been real fans of the manga or anime. This is sooooo far off it's ridiculous. The characters are weak and immature. The Tang San, Xiao Wu relationship is way overexaggerated, it's annoying. I looked so forward to this because I am a huge fan of Soul Land, but this is a huge letdown for me and I assume any other fan of the franchise. If there is a Season 2, I hope they read comments from the REAL FANS and take some pointers to balance out the show. It's like they took all of their weaknesses and hyped it up for this production.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Amazing, NEED more!!
I haven't completed the anime yet, but I don't recommend watching/ reading novel prior to this watching this drama if u haven't already, cuz they its not the same, or at least its better to think of it as its own story cuz they've changed a lot. Although the anime is noticeably better, they can't incorporate a lot of it into the drama, so its unfair to compare the two. The only thing I wish they had done is make tang san more brave and powerful as they did in the anime. He was already somewut strong in the anime but had lots of room for improvement, but in the drama, he kinda started off as weak. But im not too mad at it, he definitely grows his power. At first I admit the story was very slow, it took like close to ep 20 for tang san to actually start getting some soul rings and slowly build up his power, and also he didn't seem to showcase as much of his power as he could. They made him too weak in the beginning, but after completing it, I was still happy with how the story went. The battle scene gave me goosebumps and left me speechless. I was a little disappointed xiao wu and tang san's relationship didn't prorgress to more than siblings. But after the ending, I'm assuming S2 will def showcase their love more. I can see tang building his power to the extreme in S2 , even without his soul power. From wut I've seen so far, got high expectations for the sequel. I've never kept up with a drama each time new eps r released, but this drama is the type that after watching one ep, u wanna kno wut happens next. Tang san for sure is more powerful than he seems.
You def won't b disappointed with the CGI in this drama either, it was beyond amazing. I loved the pace of the character development, nobody was the most powerful from the start, but they all built their power and strength one by one. Tan san has a lot of power, but unfortunately I feel like it wasn't shown to its extend, and his character was quite underdeveloped ngl. But considering there is supposed to b a S2, I think it was done purposely.
I was actually pretty satisfied with the ending, I can definitely say a lot of things made sense after the ending, but at the same time lots of room to build on the story. I rlly recommend this drama, especially if ur a xiao zhan fan, even if ur not, if u like action, fantasy and steady character development, you'll likely enjoy this.
I also LOVED xiao zhan's ost in the drama, anytime they'd play his song, I couldn't even focus on the scene lol, i was just paying attention to the song, it's so catchy. I need a live version of it, cuz it sounded amazing.

I've seen almost every episode available three times :) (od more)
Fantasy accompanies me all my life, so for me the plot is banal, characters like from a textbook for authors titled "How a Fantasy Hero Should Look" and dialogues are beautiful, white propaganda forging young minds into an ideal citizen, but ...I really love this drama. Douluo Dalu puts a smile on my lips and I look forward to every new episode. Naive elements are sweet and sweet elements are naive, which gives me a feeling of lightness and fun. The music is appropriate because its Western style makes the world portrayed exotic, which is not Chinese after all and it would be strange to hear Chinese instruments and Chinese music. The costumes give the drama a modern twist and I'm just waiting to see the zipper, but that has its charm too. The special effects are ok.
I like acting the most. The young actors did their best and really felt into their characters, the older actors look as if they took it easy on the drama and created a really great effect.
For China, DC is something really fresh and interesting. Is this drama worth watching again? I've seen almost every episode available three times :) I just spend my free time with her very well.

Too different.
This review comes from someone who is a fan of the lightnovel and the donghua (animated version). I will firstly disclose that yes I am biased. As with any live actions, there will be discrepancies with how a story plays out--this one is the same. There are A LOT of changes and differences in comparison to how the original story in supposed to play out. One of the biggest aspect that I do not like was the personalities of the main leads, especially Tang San. In the novel and donghua, he is supposed to be confident, intelligent, knowledgeable, and formidable from the beginning. However, in this drama they made him into such a coward/weak the first few episodes--completely opposite of what he is supposed to be like. Xiao Wu's character is a lot less lovable and likeable in this drama as well--she's not supposed to be so weak and helpless. The drama itself is okay and maybe viewers who haven't watched the animated version nor read the manga/light novel will like it more. The acting is okay. The storyline is good. CGI and special effects are not so good. The music is not the best. Unfortunately, although I try to get pass the major differences as well as my bias, I will have to drop this.
