A Gem Despite Its Imperfections
More than just a romantic love story, this is drama delves into the intricacies what what it takes to be a family. In my opinion, the drama starts of really strong and immediately introduces the issues that carry on throughout the drama. Zhi Xiao's family learns to deal with sickness of a loved one and Gu Wei learns to regain his confidence and direction in life. There was so much growth in all of the main characters in the first 6ish episodes that I was surprised and it made me look forward to the rest. (I'm not a doctor, so I can't really comment of the medical aspects of the drama, but there may be some inaccuracies here for those viewers that are sensitive to this.)
Then the drama hit kind of a lull in the middle where it went through the typical love triangle cliches and misunderstandings. But the chemistry between the main leads really pulled through. The process of them falling in love seemed really natural and their interactions were really sweet. Despite knowing what will happen before it happens, I was already too invested in the main leads and just wanted to see them together. I can see how some may drop the series here, but I would definitely recommend to keep going.
In the last 8ish episodes, the plot picks up again and the rest of the drama is really gold. The main leads really grow together and they have one of the most loving and realistic relationships I've seen depicted in a drama. Their individual strengths get to shine as they help each other with their weaknesses and there is no doubt in my mind that they belong together, not just as lovers but as family. The father daughter development also made me cry more times than I would like to admit. I think a lot of people could relate to their situation and emotions were just too real. The ending for them was absolute perfection even if it's not ideal. This drama leaves you with a warm fuzzy feeling.
To be honest, when I first started the drama I thought that the leads were miscasted. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of both Yang Zi and Xiao Zhan, but the characters didn't seem to suit them. Probably because this was filmed 3 years before it was released, in my head Yang Zi already grew out of the naive bubbly girl type of role. When the FL acted childish I had to keep reminding myself that she's supposed to be 21 and still in college. Xiao Zhan also seems more of a heart on sleeve type of actor and playing the stoic genius ML seemed out of character, because honestly he's just really cute sometimes. The 9 year age gap of the characters was often forgotten because the leads are pretty similar in age in real life. However, after finishing the entire drama, I'm glad Yang Zi and Xiao Zhan were the leads because they brought something to their characters that made them seem more human than the typical stereotypes. There are some really emotional moments towards the end of the drama and an actress with less experience probably wouldn't have been able to pull it off as well as Yang Zi did. And since it was the ML's first time falling in love and learning how to love, being able to see all of the heart wrenching feelings flit across Xiao Zhan's face during the difficult moments made his character a lot more relatable.
I'm just going to rant a little about the side characters. I wish there was more development for them because their characters were interesting and had potential, but it fell very flat. Their stories were not concluded well either. It just kind of wrapped everyone else up as they ended happily ever after... probably.... However, I'm always down for a happy ending so it's not too big of a deal :)

A classic work of truth, goodness and beauty in one fan's mind
This was only my first time to chase a drama seriously, and I found a treasure! As a middle-aged uncle, I had the chance to follow TOOL by working from home due to the epidemic in Hong Kong. I was really lucky! I had never really followed a drama before. I had a little impression of Xiao Zhan, but had zero knowledge of Yang Zi before it. But now, several weeks after the show finished, my love for TOOL and the two leading cast has continued unabated, especially for Yang Zi.In fact, after I watched the fourth episode, I wanted to give up, because the plot did have some bugs. But I persevered, and the father-daughter relationship in episode 6 made me not want to stop. I even spent HK$28 to buy a month of VIP for it!
So what are the main factors that attract me? The first is empathy. My wife and I are also eight years apart in age, and we grew up in completely different backgrounds. Both my parents passed away from cancer, and now I have a lovely and a bit difficult daughter. These experiences have deeply integrated me into the plot.
Secondly, the wonderful acting of the main leads makes me feel in love again, because all the sweet and cruel scenes are so true and natural, like the stories happening around me. Of course, in addition to the male and female leads, the supporting roles are also very strong.
Third, the series has a very positive world/life view, and its healing power is incredible. A romantic modern drama can depict the sacred trust of marriage, the respect and cherishment of men for women, the priceless love of family, the sincerity of friends…so well. Even the theme of premarital sex is touched elegantly, which is really rare and amazing!
Fourth, the level of screen writing, directing, cinematography and soundtrack is first-class, bringing a full range of artistic enjoyment. Some people question Yang Zi's shortcomings in performing the cello, but to me as a layman of classical music, the beautiful and touching original songs and music of TOOL are the irreplaceable treasures, especially when three of the theme songs are performed by the main leads themselves!
I must talk a little about Yang Zi. From knowing nothing about her before, to now being a fan of hers due to one drama, what kind of magic is it? I think it is roughly the same as with other YZ fans, just like her playful evaluation of herself in the Mini Theatre: "Beautiful face, cheerful personality". Of course, I believe that people who like Yang Zi are more drawn by her hearty character as a typical Beijing girl, because most of us are ordinary people like her. But everyone can approach their ideals and walk toward the love of their life with faith, courage, strength, persistence and God-given talent. That being the case, even if she has undergone some plastic surgery, why should it prevent me from loving her?
In short, if it is a drama that made me, a middle-aged man who had never chased dramas, indulge in it and hold back tears many times and even want to cry when watching it, a drama that made me reflect on the meaning of life and cherish the people around me even more during the epidemic, a drama that can heal the hearts of many people and convey the positive energy needed by the society and a drama that inspires my confidence in the truth, goodness and beauty of the world, then it is worthy of my five stars, and I believe that this drama will become a classic in the years to come.

Awesome!
First of all, i’d say that it is worth the 2years wait we all have done for this drama to be aired. First 2 episodes, initially i thought this is gonna be a typical drama of a girl having a daddy problem, which later found the love of her life and was swept away to heaven. But well, i’m glad to be wrong.Where to start? Hmmm…maybe with Yang Zi. Tbh, this is my first YZ’s drama for me, having not watching her ashes of love due to fantasy not being my cup of tea. Though being such a popular heroine, i’ve always heard of her stint. I really like her portrayal of LZX, especially so coming from Heart of Jade just before i start on TOOL (where i’m having a bit of a likehate relationship with the FL), i can see the difference between the 2 FLs. YZ’s acting is more mature, she has a great face expression and you can easily empathise with LZX in a lot of scenes. Kudos to yang zi!
And as for XZ? What more can i say? Total swoon-worthy of course! As usual, XZ’s acting is superb, his eyes convey so much with so little expression, and of course, who can resist a competent handsome tall man in a white coat?! Lol. Obviously not me.
Plot is good. Might have a bit of a plot hole here and there, but it doesnt take the pleasure out of watching. I must say, this drama has the most satisfying ending for me personally. The wedding, the father’s letters, the scene with their 7yo son, it all came to such a beautiful tie up for the drama’s ending. LZX’s growing up is done beautifully and her relationship with her father almost always had me in tears, especially towards the end. TOOL had me giggling in all its cheesy/lovey dovey scenes and bawling my eyes out in equal measures. The chemistry between XZ and YZ are chefkiss!
I had issues with sansan in almost 2/3rd of the series though. I mean, her immaturity and the way she kept on parting her infinite wisdom (not!) to LzX is really grating on my nerves. But i guess, it goes to highlight how much mature LZX is compared to her peers who havent gone thru what she did personally. I dont know if i missed it or what, but i would like for them to tie up what happened to sansan and gu xiao though at the end, but ah well, we cant have it all right.
Ost are nice as well. The duet song between YZ and XZ especially sounds fairytale like! When they first performed the song almost a year ago at an award show, i’ve already get a disney’s vibe from the song. Soo nice! And of course, XZ’s solo song is nice as well.
All in all, TOOL is awesome i end up between two minds whether or not to marathon it and at the same time, trying to delay watching so as to make it last more! Lol

One of the best chinese drama
It is my first time writing a review on here and I chose this drama because it is just so good. The story is very touching and light. It involves family, love, and friendship and I think all the casts did amazing jobs portraying their characters. I never cry that much while watching any dramas but this one just hits me different. I really really adore the relationship the two main characters give us. I even get butterfly when they hug or kiss (even though it is just a light kiss). Trust me, give this drama a chance because you will not regret it. The ending is so satisfying (actually there is a small part about the dad that I wish it could end better, but I guess it is just the reality). Now talking about the chemistry between the two mains. HOLYYYYY COWWWWWW I AM GOING CRAZY BECAUSE THEY ARE SO FRICKEN ADORABLE. There were small fights but it is very understandable since the FL is still in college while the ML graduated for awhile already. The ML is so soft and the FL is very bubbly. And lemme tell ya'll, the osts are amazing ok...one of the OST is performed by our lovey dovey main lead couple so it adds another point to this drama. Overall, I truly adore this drama and I would forsure rewatch it again. Not surewhy some people are complaining about the story and acting (I guess everyone has their own opinions) but please please give this a try. Like I said, I never reviewed on here before and this drama just made me change my mind because I really want to let everyone know how amazing this drama isVond je deze recentie nuttig?

Fall in love again
I'm one of xiao zhan's fan that waiting this drama to air after a long time just like everybody else in this MDL forums. I feel excited on first episode..my eyes glued at wetv app 10pm on 15 march 2022 to make sure that it is real. For the first time i didn't skip anything through all episodes for chinese modern romantic drama. No cheesy elements and their chemistary as a couple was top notch just like real couple. I love how this drama potrays their journey from do not know each other until become couple, married and had child. Maybe many chinese dramas have plot like that. But this drama was special. My heart "bloming like a flowers" everytime i watch them together coz it soooooooooooooo romantic 😍. I cried for 4 last episode and lastly i'm satisfied with the ending. If i want to give award, i will give to both of them Xiao zhan and yang zi. Hopefully their journey as a actor/actress smooth and successfull. From this drama i fall in love again with xiao zhan just like i fall in love with him in the untamed.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

The worst Drama i've watched
The first two epsiodes are an absolute torture to watch, i've never seen a character so immature, i can't stand this kind of behavior she's just unbearable.Judging someone on rumors is a bad thing that can basically destroy someone's life.
Plus she's not doing any effort to understand why there are rumors and if these are true or not. Even worse, she's spreading the rumors with the most stupid support character of all time, her friend SanSan. but we'll speak about her later.
Moreover evrytime she faces him, she refers to these rumors and say he is a bad doctor. What kind of behavior is that seriously ?
She has the right to consult other doctors, totally.
But here is one thing, if another doctor saw the medical file of your sick father and tell you that by his experience he thinks it's worse than they thought and it's probably cancer woukd you tell that person that he is a bad doctor based on rumors you heard or would you listen to him and try to understand why he thinks it's cancer when the life of your dad is at stake ?
So, i almost dropped right after episode 2, but i decided to push a bit because of all the goods reviews and high notations, well that wasn't a good idea at all.
Nothing changed, Xiao Xiao is still acting like a kid episode after episode and that's so annoying.
SanSan is abusive and never helping she's basically giving the worst advice possible to an overly naive Xiao Xiao, resulting in situations that would have never existed and this is so painful . So thanks to her stupid friends but mostly SanSan and to her being so immature Xiao Xiao is going to have fights with Gu Wei for no reasons, and it's like that during all the drama, she has a really annoying tendency to blame Gu Wei for nothing it's actually insane.
Dr Gao forcing Gu to do things that he does not want and interfering with his private life, just trying to take control of his life.
Gu's cousin is a lazy "rich" kid cause that's his mom money, total playboy that can't even use his brain before opening his mouth.
This guy and Sansan are the worst friends you can possibly have they are doing so much damage and not helping one bit, doing dumb things all along the drama, you really don't need ennemies if you have friends like that, they put so much effort to ruin every little interesting or good thing in this drama.
Last, the violonist, he is the worst being selfish and using her dad state to create distance between ML and FL and try to get her after not giving any news for years. It's even worse after Gu Wei and Xiao Xiao get together, he is manipulating her, who apparently can't see it for some reason (it's so obvious but hey "he is like a brother to me"). So at this point he is going to do everything he can to get Xiao Xiao, saying to Gu Wei things like "Until you're married i still have a chance".
Let's talk about the parents in this drama, well this is a great example of what you shouldn't do with your kids, Xiao Xiao's dad is overly agressive with her and her mom. Gu Wei's mother is trying to control her 30 year old son's life, forcing him to marry a girl he doesn't like. And last his cousin parents, so the dad is some kind of high level jerk and mom is spoiling an already lazy kid.
So i almost forgot this thing existed and missed the opportunity to update the review earlier. I dropped it on episode 19, it's just too much for me and a complete waste of time. Run away from this !

Unexpectedly so good with a beautiful ending :)
This is my first time watching a full drama with Xiao Zhan and Yang Zi. I started both The Untamed and Go go Squid and unfortunately dropped both dramas after a few episodes. I’ve also written a review for GGS.I absolutely loved this drama! It was very unexpected, both leads really portrayed their characters well. Xiao Zhan is such a good actor! He was able to portray a variety of emotions, very subtle changes in his facial expressions and showing how he adored and fell in love with FL. Yang Zi also portrayed her character very well- cute, bright, brave and outspoken! What annoyed me a little was her hair and how she kept adjusting it ;)
The first few episodes may be a little dry and slow. I suppose the writers needed time to introduce the characters and relationship dynamics in order to build the story from a good base. The pace started getting better and the storyline more engaging when the ML started having feelings for FL. The story development was very good for the main leads, how they first got to know one another, helped each other with problems, falling in love and then the best part- dealing with issues when being in a relationship. Really really very relatable. There were some cliches with love rival, short break up etc.. but the way the FL hunted him down and told him off was one of my favourite scenes!! :):)
Another relationship dynamic that was important in this drama is between father- daughter, and between the family. Be prepared to get annoyed and at the same time crying :( The side couples were not as engaging- it felt more like a filler for the episodes sadly. The last few episodes is a tear- jerker. Be ready with your tissues!! I was wondering how the writers would end it- and I was very very satisfied with the way they did it. (Way better ending than Business Proposal ;))
All in all, I would definitely recommend this. Would love to see a drama with Xiao Zhan and Wu Lei ;) Both very good looking and talented actors. :):):)

A True Love Story Never Ends
OOL told the love story between Gu Wei and Lin Zhixiao. At first glance ,it is nothing special. but as the story progress you are drawn into the lives of two people each with their own contrasting personalities and families. The story really makes you believe that Lin Zhixiao and Gu Wei were meant for each other and will continue to be together despite any obstacles. The initial episodes were a bit slow but the story picks up after the first 4 episodes. I actually read the novel but despite the changes in the drama, I felt it stayed quite true to the essence of the novel. That is it emphasized the themes of love and family as shown in the novel. The drama also didn't revolve too much around misunderstandings. Our lead couple quickly resolved their misunderstandings which is something I really appreciated. I also loved the addition of the little theatres. It was a really creative touch. The aspects about Mr Lin's illness was also well handled, I cried so much at the last two episodes. The drama showed how important it is to cherish your loved ones and also showed how the circle of life goes on.Yang Zi really played Lin Zhixiao so well, her acting was on point always. And I laughed so much at the comedic scenes. Xiao Zhan playing Gu Wei portrayed Gu Wei 's inner thoughts and mannerisms so well, in fact he seemed just like the Gu Wei from the novel.
Ending the review here by saying, the oath of love is the perfect drama to watch after a tiring day.

Searching for a realistic drama? Just Go For It!
First of all, as we all know that this is a highly anticipated drama and it definitely didn't disappoint us.It starts like any other normal drama, but the fact that all the actors pulled off their characters so well that it keeps the viewer immersed in the drama, we can feel each and every emotion they are trying to show. It is not cringy nor filled with those over- exaggerated romances everything just feels so real and relatable. No perfect characters! They all make mistakes and learn from them and most importantly teach us the real value of a family.
The only reason I feel that it could get better is that the support roles/couples could get a little more screen time with a better ending. All in all, I really liked the drama.

Cuteness and a Good Time Watch
I waited a long time to watch The Oath of Love. When it finally came out it was clear it was about Dr. Gu discovering a woman he cannot ignore, who is utterly different from him and is a bit callous at times, but one he cannot ignore. Their relationship is about a growing connection. Their fights are quite real and commonplace, I loved them because they were so rooted in a slice-of-life setting. Does he like me or the cute doctor who he works with daily? Would he even look at me? or Why won't he tell me what's going on with him? I think that if you look at this story from this perspective, it is very endearing and I loved their journey. There were moments that dragged a bit, and the second couple had serious issues which needed more time, but, The Oath of Love is full of cuteness and how an unlikely couple can come together. I enjoyed every episode.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
