What a story line. A MUST WATCH !
Mr. Queen is so special to my heart. I was hesitant to watch it at first. I thought oh another romcom with a body swap. I was bored with romcoms actually. But the Mr. Queen trailer kept following me everywhere on Instagram, So I decided to give it a go. And I'm fully satisfied with the desicion. The first episode was kind of overdone. The visual effects was kinda bad and the comedy was too simple and easy to predict at the first episode.(but please don't underestimate the drama, you'll miss a lot.) I mean you can imagine the comedy in body swap. But it was enjoyable. I don't lie about that. You can laugh out loud. So I thought the comedy would be the main part of the drama.
And actually the OST "Bong Hwan Aaaa" was really good. That OST was ringing inside my head for weeks when the drama started. Other OSTs of the drama are pretty damn good as well. Specially the OST " Here I am ".
As the drama progressed, the genre started to change. I thought the drama would be pure comedy. But it was not. It had so many other aspects to it. That's when the drama showed it's true colours. The drama has so many plot twists as well. So you'll enjoy it more.
I mean the queen's character development is unbelievable. I felt like Queen is completely different when I started rewatching from the beginning. The romance was great. The politics were great. And her cooking skills were even greater. It felt like comedy version of "Dae Jang Guem" at times.
The chemistry between the actors were great. I mean they deserve the recognition.Everyone really pulled it off. I'm so satisfied with their acting. I really wish they win so many awards for the drama.
And the cinematography is so nice. I mean every shot of the drama is so beautiful. So pleasing to the eye. Nice post production. Loved each and every scene. Drama was so beautiful from the beginning to end. Of course you can see the photos from MDL photos section and admire the beauty.
The Korean remake was miles better than the China original version. The ending of the drama is pretty neutral. At the end you'll think a lot about human nature and who we really are. The drama is so worth watching. What ever happens it will be beautiful.
2020 was a good year for kdrama fans. So many good drama were aired. And I rank Mr. Queen in the top 3.

A unique story that is full of comedy and drama.
At first, I didn’t get the humor of this series, so I put it on my hold list. But strangely enough, I started watching Angel’s Last Mission Love, and I was mesmerized by Shin Hye Sun’s performance as a ballerina. From a ballerina to a man sent back in time as a woman. She is flawless in her performance of both. Finally, I returned to watch Mr. Queen, and I was treated to one of the most entertaining series I’ve ever watched. Please don’t miss this one.If you want a unique love story, this one is hard to top. Playing a woman with the lingering thoughts and mannerisms of a man is not easy. However, Hye Sun pulled it off with the grace of the amazing actress she is. I am not a huge fan of historical dramas with non-stop political infighting, but this one had more than that. The comedy was funny, and the drama was real, plus it had a perfect ending.
The supporting roles were well thought out, and each had its own identity. It is always a treat when you can enjoy the side stories as much as the main. That takes a writing talent which I think showed in this series. The music was also spot on and didn’t override the conversation or the story.
And finally, although I don’t know how many people read this far down, the subtitles were perfect. Good subtitles are critical to someone who doesn’t speak the language and are often taken for granted. I’ve mastered the art of reading and watching at the same time. What makes a subtitle good is when you feel they match the emotion on the screen. Thank you to the great subtitle people at Viki.

This is one of my favorite dramas. This drama just my 2020-2021. I don't usually watch historical dramas and when I do it is usually something that has to do with present days like this drama. I really liked how the main character switched to the Josean which made it even more funnier. The characters where very funny and I loved all of them a lot. I didn't expect so much romance, but I love how the King started to like the Queen. My favorite parts were when the Queen just roasted everyone and proved to all of them that she is greater than them. I really liked the ending, which in some dramas I don't always like them. It would be pretty cool if they showed the baby at the end. I was happy that both Jang Bong Hwan and the queen had a good ending. It was so weird to see the present days because I was so used to seeing the palace. Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
The casting was perfect 💯 Literally, everyone from the King and Queen down to the palace maids had a significant responsibility in the flow of the story. Hands down to Kim Junghyun and Shin Hyesun 🙇🏻♀️ They gave so much life to Cheoljong and Soyong/Sobong. We can't just ignore how powerful their chemistry are. Their scenes were so satisfying to watch!
Story-wise, it definitely had loopholes and questionable scenarios but it was a wonderful story to tell. I hope they were given more episodes because there's just so much potention over the stories that popped out between the King & Queen. What I didn't like was the build-up on some events and characters that they couldn't address anymore.
Over-all it was a wonderful kdrama. It had fierce confrontations, rated 🔞 remarks, comedy, love story, family, and Korean history all in one drama. I had fun during the weekends and it is something that I always looked forward because it intrigued me every after episode. I don't think I can move on from this drama hahaha it makes me sad and happy at the same time. 😊

Big Applaud to Female Lead and the Fascinating Plots!
Haven't been watching Korean historical drama for quite a while, or maybe I would say even if I watch, there isn't any that keeps me fascinated throughout the series; but this one, YES YES! One of the best historical drama I've watched over the past few years! In the past, K-dramas are pretty successful in pushing out long series drama such as Queen SeonDeok, Jumong, Dae Jang Geum etc., however I realised these days, some people (Not All) tend to lose interest when the historical drama became intense and dark; short comedy historical drama on the other hand attracts people more, like 100 Days My Prince, The Tale of Nokdu etc. Not complaining because I love it!
I enjoyed how this drama has an equivalent amount on the intense and hilarious scenes. Just when things gotten serious, they insert plots that make you giggle, have the main story going on while keeping you entertained from time to time! But what's special about this drama was probably the interesting characteristic of two main leads; the King looks like a baddie from the outside but inside being allured by the bold Queen despite her wild and inappropriate actions, how he always thought the Queen was playing "hard to get" when she is actually dealing with her "hormone dilemma" XD!!! The plots were always so random but their chemistry had made the series even greater! So fun to watch!
I was also impressed by how Shin Hye Sun pulled off this role again and again in every episode, how she tweaked between acting as a male and female. Just when I thought her acting has achieved to a certain level, she then exceeded my expectation again, just no limit to how good she could be. TBH, among all the actresses who I've seen trying to act as guy, she got the best portrayal! The way she sits, she walks, even the detailed expression on how she reacts, just so natural that I never had a second to not believe it's really a male trapped in a woman's body! (Plus point on her height too)
Mr Queen has a pretty solid story for a 20-episode drama, and I really enjoy drama that has a good plot arrangement, not just good in the start and boring in the second half. For the ending, I would say the team did a pretty good job in creating a perfect ending for it, you know for time travel genre, you can never expect a perfect ending as there were always two voices; which one would prefer the main leads to stay together in the same era and the other voice will be siding towards having them to go back to their own world. It might be pretty sensitive for this drama too, especially the female lead is actually a male, if they were to touch based on the excessive bromance, it might be an issue for them too. So more like treating this as an interesting journey where both of them grown from the experience and wishing the best for each other in their own world. Shouldn't be complaining.
Overall, worth being given a high rating and great production with well-chosen casts!

chaotic and ridiculously good // perfect blend of comedy and historical genre
Surprisingly I enjoyed the series considering the fact that i dislike historical dramas a lot because they are too boring and dark for my liking. The writers did a really good job in mixing chaotic and comedic moments between the characters and also the dark theme of a puppet king and the battle of power between officials. Unlike many other so-called "rom-coms" that are only funny in a few episodes, Mr Queen brought a lot of laughter in every single episodes and it didn't seemed forced or cringe thanks to Shin Hye Sun and Kim Jung Hyun's amazing acting. I was not surprised by how well Kim Jung Hyun fits the role of Cheoljung considering the fact that he's a master in this type of characters but Shin Hye Sun's acting was WOW Having to act as both gentle and a chaotic man stuck in a woman's body, it was very natural which really helped in the comedic aspect. I would highly recommend people to watch this if you are looking for a funny drama with a mixture of an exciting plot!! #TeamNoTouchingVond je deze recentie nuttig?
It's been a while since I've had so much fun watching a Kdrama!
OMG, this is so GOOD.From the very first episode, this drama will have you hooked.
There's something really special and unique about Mr Queen, I've seen several historical dramas but this ones a bit different. It's purely a comedy with a twisted interesting storyline to keep you captivated.
We follow Kim So Yong (Jang Bong Hwan) as she - or he? haha - discovers secrets within the palace, keeping viewers on their tippy toes. However, it's never too heavy as humour is sprinkled throughout scenes. It's easy to watch and although the episodes are long, they seem to fly by so quickly because of how entertaining they are.
The acting is something I must mention, both Shin Hyesun and Kim Junghyun are great for the characters they play and portray them perfectly, the director couldn't have picked better actors for those roles. It's like when Shin Hyesun is crying, I feel depressed and when she's content, I feel happy! The main characters all have their own story and dark secrets that we slowly learn about along the way. I'm was particularly invested in the Queen's true self, she's very interesting and there seems to be many dimensions to her character - not Jang Bong Hwan but the actual Queen.
I've been pleasantly surprised by how good this drama is despite my high expectations!
I loved how the story played out and I hadn't found myself getting bored while watching it which is always a plus. The OST is so so good, super addicting - definitely give it a listen.
If you want a good laugh, I totally recommend checking this out!

Definitely my top 5 of 2021 drama
Have to say I’m not really into drama with time traveling, or body switch. But this drama have make me took a different turn, it’s not just funny or hilarious but the characters. They definitely play there roles right, and it definitely matches the characters they have play. Have to say they not only make this drama funny, but it’s the people who played the role that makes people into this drama, because they did an amazing jobs. Gotta say this drama is my top 5 of 2021, great cast and great rolesVond je deze recentie nuttig?

I must say! This is one of my favorite ancient K-Drama
So, we have our King Cheol and Queen So Yong starting off as enemies, then 'no touching', then appearing in dreams& finally together.I saw a clip on Facebook about the cooking part of the show but I never thought for a second that I would be THIS interested in it even after multiple rewatches. The storyline for this drama is superb!
I don't know if the actors had workshops but Dude! it's like they truly learned from the workshops and how to play their characters. I commend Shin Hae & Kim Jung a lot, like a lot a lot. I don't know if the producers & directors want that much chemistry between the King & Queen but I certainly got my share of experiencing their amazing, no doubt chemistry.
This show is a must-watch. Honestly!

But what sets this drama apart is perhaps the interesting feature of its two main protagonists; The King looks evil on the outside but on the inside is being seduced by the daring Queen despite her brutal and inappropriate actions, how did he always think the Queen was playing 'hard to get' hahahaha when you're already dealing with the 'hormonal dilemma'!!
Excellent acting and plot. It brought me a lot of laughs, thanks for the drama Mister Queen :)

Mr. Queen -- Bold, Funny, and Immeasurably Pleasing
I was very hesitant to start this drama because I wasn't too keen on Shin Hye Sun, but boy, she completely and utterly won me over with her depiction of a Joseon queen trapped in a present-day man's spirit. She's funny, quick-witted, bold, and I dare say this may be her best performance yet. I am a fan. I like that Mr. Queen is bold in tackling some taboo issues in a very well-written script, with a great cast, director, and editor.Of course, it didn't hurt to have Kim Jung Hyun as King Cheol Jong, who comes off as dense but is more receptive and feeling than everybody gives him credit. What kept me going other than the comedy was my need to find out where the real queen's spirit was and, more so, if Bong Hwan soul trapped in someone else's body was the end of him; would he forever be trapped, or was there more to the both of them, the Queen and Bong Hwan. And boy was there more, much more.
As much as I loved our Mr. Queen and King and excitedly waited for each episode to live vicariously through them as much as I couldn't get enough of Choi Jin Hyuk’s voiceover. I doubt the beginning of this drama would've worked as well as it did without him. He definitely made the drama that much more fun to watch. Every moment in this drama was precious. Excellent writing, directing, editing, and acting; this is one of those dramas where you can’t help but enjoy acting, even the villains (except the concubine, okay even her) to the extent that I wished it was a daily drama with as many episodes as a daily one is allowed. I'm not too keen on daily dramas, which tells you how great this drama truly is in its setup, delivery, directing, and production.
Many criticized Mr. Queen for depicting the kind of love it did between a King and Queen with a man's soul in a woman's body, but all I really saw were two people who in their struggle to make themselves known found in each other what they tried so hard to find in themselves, but couldn't unitl they met each other. A story about lost souls, betrayals, honor, loyalty, love, in the simplest yet beautifully complicated way. And I think what I really like about Mr. Queen is that even when it was serious, it didn't forget how to be funny and arrive at its point steadily yet graciously.
As far as I am concerned, Mr. Queen came to a great ending to a flawless drama. It was a blessing during a very trying time globally with a pandemic that left all of us fearful of what's to come. But, Mr. Queen, in its 16+ weeks, managed to give me and many of us immeasurable pleasure. For that, I am forever grateful to the writer, director, actors, and production team for allowing me to live vicariously through all its funny, happy, and, at times, not-so-happy moments. More so, I'm glad I decided to watch this drama that beautifully and so seamlessly showcased the many facets of our fantastic leads and their supporting cast that I may have otherwise missed had I decided not to watch it as I'd originally planned.
Kim Jung Hyun said he chose the role of King Cheoljong for its comedic possibilities; he wanted to do a project that would make people laugh and help them forget the pandemic, even if for an hour. He, our beautiful and gifted Shin Hye Sun, the incredibly talented cast, writer, director, production team, and especially Choi Jin Hyuk, have done that and much, much more. A long-standing ovation to anyone and everyone involved in the art that became Mr. Queen, this is one drama none of us will soon forget. Highly recommended!

best series ever
im having a hard time moving on from this series. the cast, songs, story and the jokes were the best. i don't think i can move on from this series hahahI keep replaying the scene of the King and Queen. You know what, they are the best couple in Joseon Era. Whenever they collab, it has a big impact. This famous quote "king cannot live without his Queen" can be seen in this Drama. That is why I cannot find myself stop watching huhuhu It kills me. I even started reading the Chinese version of it. Thank you so much director-nim for making my year beautiful despite the COVID-19 we are facing.
