The camera work was beautiful; it struck me in the very first episode.
The characters were complex and well played out.
Music really amazing not only as a use in the story, but also a in itself.
Overall, one of the best ones I've watched.

As in:
A new cop goes to a weird small town, in which everyone seemes to have secrets.
I'd say Beyond Evil and Twin Peaks cross eachother somewhere, but are going elsewhere.

Good thriller in a small town: amazing acting that transcended the material given
Solid thriller with an interesting murder inquiry around a cold case, as well as little town dark vibes. There are some good twists to the story, even though I guessed a lot of them...Some still managed to pick my interest up. The drama might have benefited from a tighter edit, especially in the beginning to make it better-paced but the series gets stronger and more captivating in its second half once the characters are more established. The strength of the story is really the evolution of the protagonists' relationships within the police force as well as with the citizens of the city where the crime took place.Regarding the acting, I expected range and good performances...and I was indeed not disappointed. All the ensemble cast is great (with maybe one or two minor exceptions). I particularly enjoyed the 2 main leads, they were really bouncing back effectively from each other and truly made the show compelling to watch. I remembered Yeo Jin Goo as a child actor who had truly great abilities, and I was really impressed by his evolution in this adult role. I will be looking more into his filmography for sure. Similarly, after watching this, I want to see more of Shin Ha Kyun. I understand his superstar status and I need to see him also in other roles after his robust performance here.
The production value was nice and relatively standard for the genre. There was quite a bit of impactful scenes but it was still 'cop / law" show coded. I wish they took an even darker / more frightening road to make it more oppressing...But it was still suitable for the investigation atmosphere. The OST was good with some BBC's Sherlock Holmes / theatre vibes. It lacked maybe of variety but brought up the feeling each time it was played.
I would recommend this to people looking for a dark police thriller carried by really good actors performances. If you enjoyed series such as Mare Of Easttown or police novels, you will enjoy this.

A hidden bromance
It justifies the title 'Beyond Evil' in the whole showđ€đ€. I read many reviews stating that it was very slow paced, which I would agree but it doesn't hore you. There's that excitement to know more and by each episodes, I had my jaw dropped. The landing of the twists were so fine. I overall loved the show.The factor of knowing what would happen next is completely taken away from you; while I would be guessing something the complete opposite would be happening.
That man....Lee Dong Shik he looked so good the entire show even if he is old.

First kdrama I ever watched and it's still my favorite. The mystery actually kept me on my toes! I was actually surprised at most of the twists, however the real stand out in this series was the relationships between the townspeople.
Lee Dong-sik is still one of my favorite male leads in any drama I've seen since this. The performance was so versatile, complex and very well done. I felt for him, my heart broke for him as he watched what was left of his family seemingly fall apart. The scene where he lost the chief actually made me cry. They built such a wonderful character that was flawed and full of capacity for love and hate. He really wanted to take care of everyone in the town and, when Han joined the force, he was brought into that circle of protection, whether he wanted to be or not.
Han seemed like the typical aloof, cold guy character. He refrained from making connections because he wasn't comfortable with them. The townspeople's closeness obviously was a lot for him, but he came to accept them in his own way. His partnership with Lee Dong Sik was wonderful to watch!
I loved Jae-yi and her story broke my heart. The connection between her and Lee Dong-sik as they both bonded over loosing important women in their lives was very well written. She was also such a strong character.
The villains seemed a bit one note but as the show really dug into their lives and motivations, they get more complex. The overarching cause of pain in this series was largely due to greed and how that motivated people to let an unspeakable evil continue terrorizing their community.
One of the most surprising elements of this show for me was that there was no romance in this. The deepest, most well developed relationship in it was the partnership between Lee Dong-sik and Han Joo-wan and the actors had wonderful chemistry.
A big recommend from me. I still think about this show often.

One of the best and most underrated bromances
It was everything! The story kept you on edge, and the acting from both ML's were so good. We were introduced to Yeo Jin-goo through this drama and have since almost watched all of his works. Such an awesome actor. The story keeps you guessing until the very end and it's worth it. The last two to three episodes will spike your anxiety, and then give you a bittersweet ending.We will say that not everything may seem as it is with Han Joo Won (in a good way).
He honestly does everything because he works by the books.
In the start, we thought he was either working with his father or had it in for Lee Dong Shik.
The OST was also brilliantly done. It only adds to the emotions.

I like a good mystery every now and then and this series had my mouth gaped open on several moments. What I thought was what I thought wasn't what I thought. A part of that had my nerves on end while the rest I was like OK, I see where they're going with this.
I went in watching this not being familiar with the main male lead. I remember seeing the second male lead in a drama but couldn't remember what I seen him in which and it led me to finding what I seen him in that was driving me nuts. I seen him in Giant. He was just a teenager at that time though.
His character choice sort of grated my nerves. It was a back and forth for the most of the series. At some points I was thinking seriously, make up your mind which way you want to go!
From the dramas I've seen so far within a year, it was hard for me to get use barely seeing any comedy or fighting. Everything was really serious so it was a bit different from what I usually watch.
I would've given this a lower score but the last few episodes really drew me in and I almost bawled at one on point. If a drama can get me to do that then I would say it's alright in my book.

Para quem gosta de um bom suspense policial, cheio de intrigas e reviravoltas, Beyond Evil Ă© um prato cheio.A histĂłria começa com um assassinato em sĂ©rie e busca de dois investigadores com personalidades bem diferentes para capturar o culpado. PorĂ©m, com o decorrer da sĂ©ries, muito mais tempero vai sendo adicionado e vocĂȘ começa a questionar a inocĂȘncia de todos os envolvidos.
Além da trama, que foi muito bem trabalhada, vale destacar que a atuação dos dois atores principais estå fenomenal! Eu jå conhecia o Yeo Jin Goo de Hotel del Luna, mas o papel do detetive Han Joo Woo é bem mais desafiador e cheio de emoçÔes. Porém, o grande destaque ficou para Shin Ha Kyun, a forma como ele muda de expressão nos deixa confusos e sem saber sua real intenção. Sua interpretação foi brilhante.
Por fim, a produção da sĂ©rie Ă© muito boa, a forma como as cenas sĂŁo construĂdas e como os episĂłdios sempre terminam com aquele gostinho de quero mais, contribuem para que Beyond Evil tenha todos os elementos de um bom suspense.

Okay, itâs really good, butâŠ
Wow. Um. So this show is really good. The central relationship and acting are just SO good that you can just gloss over everything else. But I feel like I want to highlight both the good and not-so-good.Good:
-Fresh take on the typical thriller/serial killer plot. Firstly, rather than the typical antagonistic clash between the pair of detectives due to personality differences, one of them literally thinks the other is the murderer. And the other thinks heâs an idiot. Itâs great! Secondly, the main serial killer plot wraps up a little over halfway, but the show keeps going. I was impressed by how the show still had unanswered questions and so even once the central mystery was solved there was still more to uncover. It was really engaging (mostly). Third, this show focuses a lot on this small town and all the close relationships, and you get the sense that these people would cover up for each other if they did something wrong, so that lends weight to your suspicions towards them.
-Characters. Many of them are very well fleshed out, primarily the main two but also quite a bit of the rest of the cast. Especially the main group in Munju. It feels like an ensemble piece, at least during the first half.
-Relationships. The main twoâs relationship is of course the highlight, and they have so much chemistry itâs ridiculous. Whenever the two of them are onscreen it is *chefâs kiss*. But all the other friendships and relationships get their screen time and I love the group of police buddies. I love it when they all meet up at the butcher shop.
-Acting. I have to point out Shin Ha Kyun in particular, he was really amazing. Heâs such an interesting character, and I donât how to describe what âgood actingâ is but if you asked me Iâd just show a scene from this show and say âHim.â Everyone else is great too.
The not-so-good stuff:
No sections here, because itâs just one thing: the plot. Oof. Okay, the first half or so of this show is well written. The plot twists are good as you learn more information about the series of events. You suspect almost everyone at some point, and then it still turns out to be someone else. Itâs a good mystery and thriller. As mentioned above, once the serial killer gets caught, there are still things to unravel. Initially, something happens so you canât uncover any more information from a certain character. Then they pull the same sh*t again with another character. Not that this wasnât meaningful or impactful, but at that point it started to feel more like it was done to extend the plot. Then a certain plot twist happens and youâre like âoh wow!â Then another frickin plot twist happens and youâre like â⊠oh wow.â Basically I feel like we could have skipped maybe one or two plot twists. They felt more like âahahaha plot twist đâ rather than âplot twist đ±.â The ultimate âwhodunnitâ felt a little meh to me because who gives a crap about that person? So the last ~5 episodes are weaker than the ones preceding them. They start to focus on characters you donât care about and the Munju crew get relegated to the background. It focuses less on the small town and the characters and more on, uh, âpolice corruptionâ I guess. Donât get me wrong, it was still mostly good (though the few episodes where they pull those plot twists were kind of eye roll inducing). The plot twists also happen during flashbacks for some reason rather then when our characters actually discover the facts, which I feel like is a weird writing decision. They still did a good job on focusing on the main two characters, and the ultimate whodunnit is probably written that way to help focus on the main relationship, but it still felt oddly forced. The last few episodes also have some, uh, plot holes in them (I guess we didnât need to gather evidence after all, cause we gotta wrap this plot up! Oh shoot, that character got in trouble, jk we need them for the plot so theyâre free now), but the final scenes with our main two are so excellent it really left me with a very good impression of the show, despite being very tempted to give this a lower rating.
I definitely do recommend this show. Would I rewatch it? Maybe the first half-ish and the last episode. Itâs an excellent show, truly, but I just think the plot has some major weak spots.

After flower of evil , i came across suggestions to watch beyond evil . From the first scene you would know that its gonna be good . So intriguing already . You would not want to turn your phone off to sleep đ. That one last episode syndrome . the acting is soooo good especially lee dong sik .one of the best main leads i have seen in kdramas. I also love how i got a break from cheesy romantic k dramas for now , I will miss lee dong sik and inspector han . Evil that wont keep you on your toes, but feels more like a barefoot walk on asfalt.
First rule of K-thriller don't trust anyone and definitely not what you think you saw..,This is an interesting story with a very logical development its consistent, its realistic, its interesting and the acting and characters are flawless.
I loved the different relationships in this dram they are complex, they develop and they are pron to change. Strong bonds stretched to their limits and you could truly feel the pain the characters felt when someone close to them turned out to have a dark secret or two. Can one mistake erase 30 years of friendship?
This drama addresses several important issues and does it beautifully. Main point being taking responsibility for ones actions and the snowball effect of trying to hide ones actions and the people who make evil possible. However it didn't really keep me on my toes and at times I felt the series it self gave out spoilers a bit to soon making many of the plot twists a bit to predictable at the same time as I had to have in mind not to trust what I saw.
So if you are looking for something thrilling that will constantly keep you on your toes you might want to look elsewhere, if you want some consistent pace high quality storytelling and acting with corruption, a serial killer and really bad parenting this is definitely the place to go.
This series is definitely worth the watch, but keep your expectations on an even level so you don't get disappointed

Munju deception
The characters and setting are introduced through both the present as well as 20 years ago and some parallels are drawn from that,every person in this drama behaves shady which makes the suspense go through the roof and combined with the great OST makes the show very captivating to say the least.The two 2 mains leads are great especially Shin Ha Kyun which is my first time seeing him,he gives of that Joker,Hannibal vibe which is very hard to pull of without seaming fake,the supporting actors also do an awesome job with a few of them being shockingly good at hiding their true motives,easily the best drama in the first half of 2021 in my opinion.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
