Read the novel if you want a complete picture
I loved this show. I love Mo Bao Fei Bao's writing (both novels and scripts), and I think Allen Ren and Bai Lu made a perfect couple. They both fulfilled their characters perfectly, and the rest of the cast was well-chosen too. The cast as a whole came together beautifully. The sets were stunning, costumes lovely, perfectly suited to the story.That said... it wasn't perfect. There were gaps in the story that would not have made sense without the book. In the latter half, there were way too many scenes in bed (usually on an IV drip).
In comparison to the book... It filled several holes that weren't well-explained, such as Zhou Wen Chuan's story arc, which seemed kind of arbitrary in the book. Some of the scenes improved, such as the step from "not married" to "married"... where the drama gave her a say in the matter. I loved the way that grandma was woven into the drama; she became a very interesting character.
Lots of comments seem to be upset about the lack of kissing -- Allen Ren's contracts usually have "no kissing"... (and the one kissing scene isn't, if you watch closely) but I personally didn't find it lacking. They had enough chemistry without the kissing. I did find it annoying how they stopped the kissing scenes with stupid stuff... like people walking in, or suddenly she has something to say (that could have easily been said a moment earlier). None of that was necessary.
Overall
1. Watch "One and Only" first -- it's a really nice complete version of their past lives
2. Read the book (hui3r.wordpress.com)
3. Then (and only then) watch "Forever and Ever"

I'm a sucker for happy ending. This one has it..
I admit, I didnt watch the first installment. Read somewhere that it didnt end well. So, here I am tried this one instead. Pretty slow start to be honest, and a bit boring.Cast/Acting was ok, not much excitement at the beginning but it did improve as the story progresses. I feel like the ML had the quota of crazy with his family. He was a straight laced nice guy with a big traditional family. Amidst all the secrets, lies and betrayal, customs and tradition, in his own way, he loved them still.
FL reflects sweetness, innocence and a bit vulnerability, pretty and talented too. No wonder ML find her interesting enough to propose early on.
The family drama, crime mystery is a bit mediocre for me. It was lacking something. It feels like it was just put there just for the sake of conflict. Rewatch value is not that high.

Easy watch when you want to feel good
Main leads both are fantastic. Allen Ren is trying different roles and his acting is very nature. He is not dashing but a cute type. Bai Lu is one of my favorite, she got good acting. She does not over do or under do and this role fits her the best. I liked the drama where there were no unnecessary misunderstanding or villainous monstrous enemies. I liked how main leads understood each other. It was not a sizzling chemistry but not too bad also. Every thing about this drama is what it should be. I haven't watched one and only becoz of the sad ending but you don't need to watch one and only to watch this. This story was able to carry itself. Also i liked that the FL had a good dressing style unlike other dramas. All and all when you are feeling down go watch it, its easy to watch and predictable.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Piacevole romantico, non privo di momenti bui
La naturale prosecuzione di One and Only riesce a fare un lavoro decisamente migliore rispetto, ad esempio, al sequel di Scarlet heart. Ero molto, molto prevenuta nei confronti di Forever and ever, memore dell'orribile Scarlet heart 2. Non sono una fan dei sequel moderni di un drama antico. Invece sono stata piacevolmente sorpresa.In verità, forse anche a causa della solita censura, non è che i momenti "sequel" siano poi così abbondanti. E' un drama che, tolti i riferimenti al passato, starebbe benissimo in piedi anche da solo. E' bello sapere che i due piccioncini sono finalmente insieme dopo aver tanto sofferto nella precedente vita, ma non è fondamentale.
La storia in sé è molto gradevole, pur se a tratti difficile da seguire per le complesse relazioni familiari. Confesso che a un certo punto ho rinunciato a capire chi fosse figlio di chi. Ci sono alcuni momenti un po' lenti, ma rimangono nei limiti della sopportabilità, e del resto la sceneggiatura è molto piacevole e, pur non essendo frenetica, tiene ancorati alla sedia meglio del Bostik. L'unico appunto che potrei fare, volendo cercare il pelo nell'uovo, è che, specialmente la protagonista, si finisce troppo spesso all'ospedale. Ma è il pelo nell'uovo, appunto. Da segnalare che, specie dopo la metà del drama, si verificano diverse circostanze tragiche. Non è una commediola romantica tutta rose e fiori, i personaggi avranno da soffrire, chi più, chi meno.
La musica è ben abbinata alle scene che commenta e sicuramente aggiunge pathos a molte scene. Costumi e ambientazioni sono curatissimi e molto belli.
Ma quest'opera è anche e soprattutto un drama di attori. A partire dalla coppia principale (splendidi!) passando per tutti i comprimari e secondari, va in scena un cast veramente eccezionale. Standing ovation per Allen Ren, il cui unico minus è che non sa sorridere a bocca aperta.
Non so più cosa lodare. Ci sono alcuni difettucci, come già detto, che mi impediscono di assegnare il massimo dei voti, ma è una serie che ho guardato tutta d'un fiato e di cui già sento la mancanza.

Warm and comforting
First of all, I know that my ratings are all 7's and 8's, which many might think is low, BUT if you look at my other reviews you'll notice I have never given anything a 10 because I feel like giving everything you like a perfect score makes it lose its meaning.Overall this is a great, heartwarming drama. I don't care much for the family politics and stuff about the ML's research lab, but I can't say that it's bad or poorly written, as it's actually just fine. I just didn't care about it as I mainly wanted to watch this to heal my heart after One and Only (as most people did). On its own, this is actually still a very cute drama; their awkward interactions are squeal-worthy because it just makes the romance feel so genuine and honest. It's like high school awkwardness but with adults, but not in an infantile way. They are both mature adults who understand the world but are new to romance, so it gives me the warm fuzzies. Great for older people like me who aren't really into high school romances but still love the innocence of first love romance.
Obviously there are characters that you dislike (Zhousheng Chen's mom), but there are also family members you adore like the grandma and Zhousheng Ren. The kind supporting characters also heal your heart.
As a sequel to One and Only, the connections are very subtle, especially if you are not fluent in Chinese (as I am not). That being said, the connections do make everything all the more sweet, so it's still very nice.
Overall the drama does have some angst, but not within the main couple's dynamic itself, which is the most important. Their previous lifetime was so sad, they let nothing stop their love now that they finally can be together in this lifetime.

Most Satisfying Drama Ever, LOVE IT
this is a 2nd season or can say the story of Reincarnation of "One and Only" even tho i didn't watch "One and Only" but im still understand the love between Zhou Sheng Chen and Shi Yi at the past.This drama i love it so much, not like most of the drama this drama relationship between Lead Couple is the best no disagreement problem ,no any exes problem , no misunderstanding at all, overall this Lead Couple only let you feel their love ,Zhou Sheng Chen have shy and responsible personality and Shi Yi have straightforward and bubbly always willing to teach him about love.
But this drama also have a antagonist plot not all perfect happy story, which is ML family problem , his family have complicated problem but tbh im not to interesting even this its still won't effect ML and FL relationship and to be surprised that is their good relationship really last to final episode i never watch any drama like this beside Love O2O drama but of course their relationship almost "ruin" but not that bad to say ruin XD because of a slightly accident at close to final episode.
Overall i just love how ZSC and SY interaction ,i as viewer keep getting butterfly feeling because their love interaction.
Finally is not to important , which is what most people say that you must watch " One and Only" first to understand this "Forever and Ever" drama but my opinion is you don't need to watch the "One and Only" to understand "Forever and Ever" cause i didn't watch "One and Only" and i jump straight to "Forever and Ever" still understand maybe because i already know spoiler Sad ending so i don't wanna watch it , but it doesn't effect at all to "Forever and Ever" , BUT if you wanna watch the 1st one then watch the 2nd one i welcome you to watch it.

Even the second time it was wonderful
This was definitely a slow burner but maybe that contributed to the developing love being so believable. I only know I still did not fast forward any part on the second viewing of this drama. For me, the plot managed a great balance between, romance, family drama and 'business". The script also added to the sincerity of the story.However, the best part was the performances of , not only the leads, but the whole ensemble. I particularly became a mad fan of Ci Sha. I could rave about the music as well...I know this is not a good review as such. My only excuse is that I watch a lot of Asian drama, and have a list of favourites from a number of countries including China and this one is definitely in the top five .

I love every details they tried to incorporate into the story to link and portrait between the prequel and the sequel. Similarly to One & Only, FL love to ML is Love at First Sight. Contrary to FL, ML love and affection towards FL is developed, accumulated and gets stronger by days. FL first word in both the drama is also Zhou Shen Chen. She still loves turquoise blue, books, poems, pomegranate, lotus flower, sleeps on the floor to be with her beloved, enjoys touching the nose bridge of the ML like O&O.
Whatever can't be done and incomplete in O&O is finally completed in F&E. Their love, their marriage, the handwritten poem 'Shanglin Fu' on the wall.
I wonder if Mei Xing is the reincarnation of Liu Zi Xing (Crown Prince in O&O) as a repayment from his previous life. The suicidal and loss of Cui Shi Yi in O&O has made him realized and regretted his previous life?

Una comune storia di amore che si intreccia con altrettante storie d'amore senza particolare rilievo nel suo svolgimento.La famiglia di lui tradizionalista, benestante e classista. La famiglia di lei moderna e piccolo borghese. Lui, il tipico scienziato tanto brillante nella carriera quanto impacciato nelle relazioni sociali e sopratutto nella relazione amorosa benché profondamente innamorato ed empatico. Lei un poco più vivace , bella e paziente, pura di sentimenti e profondamente innamorata.
La cosa che più mi ha disturbata in questo drama è la lungaggine con cui procede in mezzo a dialoghi piatti dal contenuto banale. Certe scene sono leeeee...nte,come quelle delle poche volte in cui si approcciano e si baciano ; ho voluto tornare indietro e contare quell'interminabile tempo precedente il primo bacio: ben 53 secondi (!)per avvicinare le labbra; che noia. Non c'è azione, solo dialoghi e nemmeno consistenti. Insomma: sia la sceneggiatura che la regia, per me, sono davvero poco attraenti. la storia avrebbe benissimo potuto risolversi in tre o quattro puntate tante è ripetitiva nelle situazioni.
Se devo dire una nota positiva: i dialoghi tanto banali sono resi sopportabili dalla musica di sottofondo che è armoniosa.
Ho dato 1 la rewacht poiché ho fatto fatica ad arrivare fino all'ultima puntata ( saltandone tre dopo le prime venti), figuriamoci sciropparmene altre trenta nuovamente.
Secondo me è una storia adatta a sognatrici adolescenti che amano indulgiare e crogiolarsi in sospensioni emotive.

"Even the most beautiful face will have to age. You are the best in my mind. I can see the bones of beauty inside you" Shi Yi to Zhou Sheng Chen.What a heart-warming, poignant, sweet, and tear-jerking story. A slow-burn, frustrating, and quite dragging at times, but still at the end of it, we still got our happy ending for our Shi Yi and Zhou Sheng Chen, which they really deserved.
I've been waiting for this drama to be aired as I am a fan of the novel from Mo Bao Fei Bao and fell in love with Zhou Sheng Chen's quirkiness, at times oddness and just being so adorable and him being a nerd. As well as Shi Yi's love for ZSC and how she supported him all throughout.
I just find it frustrating to watched the other actors/actress in this drama, (not included from my frustration are: the main couple, Uncle Lin, Ren, the misunderstood mother, the bff lawyer and roommate/bff of Shi Yi); I find their acting lacking and unconvincing. Specially the brother, his acting is so unconvincing and kind of lazy for someone who got pent up hatred, frustration for his elder brother. Also, some scenes for the other characters are unnecessary, which made the series dragging. Maybe they want to show their character development but ended poorly.
And I just want to rant here about the behavior of Shi Yi and Zhou Sheng Chen's maid, maybe because she's a distant relative of ZSC, but she's over the top! She doesn't know her boundary and just "boom" comes to their room without knocking, or correct word is "barging" to their room, which I find disrespectful and offensive. But the series just made it like it's just goofy or funny. I wanted to smack her head, as she always caught our couple in a very awkward situation or disrupt their sweet moments.
Anyway, thanks for Bai Lu and Allen Ren for giving us a wonderful series.
And by the way, I just want to say, I love and appreciate the OST of this series. It helps the viewers sets the mood and it's just worth of listening to it.
Over all, it is worth the time to watch the drama. ❤❤❤

A pacifying end to the sad prequel
After the roller-coaster bad ending of Forever and Ever, I guess this serves as the "anecdote" that we want for the main leads.What I like about it:-
(1) The story is simple and straight forward-no old cliches and over-used plots that are synonymous with romance dramas i.e. horrible mothers-in-law (there's one here but her evil intentions wreak limited influence on the story, just an annoying and irritating character), break-ups and reconciliation, cold and overbearing male lead, unrealistically virtuous female lead, that kind of flow....
(2) As with its' prequel, the OST is very nice
(3) No overdose of skin-ship either but it exudes warmth and romantic feelings through the leads' interaction with each other.
(4) A decent romantic drama to binge on.
What I don't quite like:-
(1) Maybe it was intended to follow the male lead in the drama to a T, I find Allen Ren's styling in this drama a bit dull. Compared to Zhou Sheng Cheng the graceful general, this modern version is a bit of a bumbling and awkward character, oftentimes boring.
(2) Again, because it's adapted from a novel, nothing much can be changed on the characters and plot. However, it'd be nice to provide some background story on certain incidents other than getting them across through the mouths of the leads.
(3) And why can't the do something about the styling of the second (or third) female leads - the girl who makes dress and likes the evil step-brother. She practically wears the same dress and beret throughout the drama.
