Must-Watch or Miss? 'The Worst of Evil'

Hey there, drama fans! So, I just finished binge-watching "The Worst of Evil," and let me tell you, it's quite the rollercoaster ride! If you're into crime dramas set in the '90s that come with a side of family drama and personal dilemmas, this one's for you.

First off, the soundtrack is fire! It totally immerses you in the dark world of Seoul's underground drug scene. The pacing is on point too—no unnecessary drag or filler episodes, just pure, edge-of-your-seat tension.

But hey, no show is perfect, right? Let's talk about Yoo Eui Jung. Girl, what were you thinking volunteering for a mission that your hubby is already on? It kinda makes you question how much she really values her marriage, doesn't it?

And don't get me started on Jung Ki Chul. The guy's supposed to be super meticulous, only working with people from his own school, and yet he somehow misses Park Jun Mo sneaking in under a fake name. C'mon, man!

Oh, and a quick shoutout to our low-ranking officer Hwang Min Gu. Seriously, how does someone like him get to throw a wrench into such a big investigation? It's weirdly entertaining but also kinda unbelievable.

And oh, before I forget—what's the deal with Lee Hae Ryeon? She's head over heels for Park Jun Mo, and for what? It's like she fell from the 'Love at First Sight' tree and hit every branch on the way down. It's one of those 'because the script said so' moments, isn't it?

But look, minor gripes aside, this show is definitely worth your time. It's not going to win any awards for groundbreaking storytelling, but it's a solid pick if you're in the mood for something fast-paced and engaging.

So, are you gonna check it out? Trust me, it's a ride you won't want to miss!

Fascinating story and great script, music and top class acting. Very Well done

The story telling is so fascinating through out all 9 episodes so far. The script writer and director have done an amazing job. Every lines are sharp, interesting and informative, just right, and every scenes have been done in a finely detailed manner. It’s such a pleasure to watch! The casts are most amazing, including all main characters and supporting characters. Everyone is playing their role so well. Congratulations on your wonderful product. Music is fantastic. Absolutely love it. I will have OST added to my favourite play list asap! For JCW fans, he is at his best. Yes he has done it again, playing best in any roles be it romantic or action! This roles is a new aspect of his super talented acting skill. However it is only fair to give all other main leads the same score: all 10/10 ! What a joy to watch each episode! Thank You 🙏🏻

Why must you watch?

The series is short with mind blowing story, cast and acting. The series can make you binge watch itself. It's worth your time. The set is shown of 1990's revolving an undercover narcotic trade for which narcotic department takes upon a massive risky investigation which involves couples protecting each other throughout it. The whole story gives us a intriguing plot and captivating acting. What sets this drama apart is how it brilliantly showcases the interconnectedness of its characters, all engaged in their mind games and strategies. The acting of every cast member is truly outstanding, and they're all nailing their respective roles.
I hope you add it to your watching list.

Worth the heartache ?

I watched this show at the gym during cardio workouts... best decision ever. I used to go twice a week, and this show had be working out four times at least. I think I scared the people next to me with my gasps, and at one point i genuinely lost balance from the shock of seeing those fitted suits.
Wi Ja Hoon is genuinely fabulous and now one of my absolute favourites, and Ji Chang Wook is as wonderful as ever. I will be grieiving the end of this show for a long time, but it was sooooo worth it 🥹

The best Crime Korean Drama of the year!! (Drug related/ Gang's / Action Packed/ Bromance 100%)

I'll keep it short as always.
When I started this drama I thought it would be the good old generic stuff that already exists... To my surprise it was actually quite different and new in terms of what I've seen in modern drama. I loved how easy it was to follow the plot and how creatively the characters were set. Story was very enjoyable. This drama is a definite MUST WATCH from me. Also the tension between the male lead and the second female lead was too good!!! I was actually more interested in their "business" in some of the later episodes.

Lastly I don't think everyone would agree with my opinion on this but I think the ending was actually perfect for once... It didn't make me feel empty and needing more when it ended. I mean of course I wanted to see the ML and the second FL meet again but it was more of a fantasy on my end😂. Also the main FL was just a there as a prop. Literally didn't serve a purpose than to annoy the both the ML's with the lackluster "romance".

This drama was definitely one of the best this year when it comes to Crime Drama's related to drugs and gangs and the action and fights and gore was done perfectly. Definitely a ✅ form me!

A drama that makes you think that sometimes you are corrupted by your duty.

There is nothing bad I can say about this drama. Clearly Ji Chang Wook feels more comfortable with this type of genre and it shows because he left it all alone in this drama.

The plot seems simple, a police officer who is generally not afraid of anything, who at first finds himself obliged against his will in a leak in an association dedicated to drugs and all kinds of crimes.

But it is not as simple as it seems. The more Park Joon-mo is involved as an undercover, the more he has to do things, like kill, that he didn't dare to do at first. His vision of what is wrong and right begins to blur little by little. And that's because even though he was supposed to stop this entire drug trafficking network, he begins to take appreciation to Jung Ki. Somehow, upon learning his story, he begins to feel some sympathy towards Jung Ki even though he knows that what they are doing is totally wrong and bad.

The problem really begins when Park Joon-mo's wife interferes in the investigation.

He knows that Jung Ki was always in love with his wife, he feels jealous in this situation but he must maintain his composure, so that they do not suspect him, as if he did not know her and at the same time protect her.

What really bothered me was his wife's attitude. When they find themselves in a bloody fight where Park Joon-mo must protect his boss/friend Jung Ki and his wife. His wife looks at him as if he were seeing a monster. First, why do you meddle your husband's work knowing that he must do everything possible, even if it is not morally correct, to not be discovered. They had weapons of all kinds and her and Jung Ki's lives were in danger, what did you expect? What will a water gun use to defend them? However, it seems like he has no problem with what Jung Ki does. Here it clearly marks an inevitable end for them.

Park Joon-mo is not the same and his wife cannot conceive what Park Joon-mo does. Knowing that it is his job and he had to stay undercover as much as possible, because the members of Jung Ki's original gang had already begun to suspect him.

Clearly Jung Ki by committing suicide gets what he wants. Let no one be happy.

This is clearly seen in Park Joon-mo's promotion scene. I don't know if he's happy, he's furious. He lost his best friend and right hand man. What really for? Not at all. At this point for Park Joon-mo, nothing made sense anymore. He was disgusted with his own job and didn't give a shit about the promotion he got. At the end of it all, he was the one who had to get his hands dirty so that others wouldn't get them dirty. And that disgusts him.

He doesn't even look at his wife once and stays away from her. Everything that once brought them together is gone.

Clearly when he goes to Jung Ki's grave he leaves his wedding ring, which tells us that he has cut off all relations with his wife. I don't think they will get back together in the future.

Everything has changed. The two of them have changed and the love they felt for each other died. He knew it the moment he saw the face of his wife, who looked at him as if he were a monster.

At the end they let us see a small scene in which Park Joon-mo and Jung Ki smile genuinely. In the end, as mean and ambitious as Jung Ki was, they treated each other like brothers the entire time they were together.

Which leaves us reflecting that in life there is no black and white. Each person has their nuances, whether good or bad. Sometimes by doing our job we are corrupted, it is inevitable.

A Park Joon-mo who didn't dare kill anyone at first, is forced to start killing. And as we all know, when you cross that line, nothing about you will ever be the same again.

The action, the story, the performances and the OST was perfect.

There are no complaints for this drama. I honestly think it's the best drama Ji Chang Wook has done in his entire career. He is a very good actor, who can show you different facets. But without a doubt this type of genre is the one that suits him best.

excellent men, women a disaster

SPOILER WARNING UNTIL THE LAST SCENE

SPOILERS

SPOILERS

The series is really good and deserves a second viewing (I always only watch them once anyway). However, be prepared for a lot of violence, sometimes even exaggerated. The actors are all very good. The male characters were masterfully drawn, all of them, unlike the female ones who are a disaster. There are very few flaws in the plot (including the disappearance of his father into thin air). Very little waste of time and unnecessary turns to lengthen the broth. Emotionally it is engaging, even if for those who have already seen the films from which it draws inspiration, they are emotions already experienced at a different qualitative level [“Donnie Brasco” by Mike Newell from 1997, with Johnny Depp and Al Pacino; “Infernal Affairs” by Andrew Lau and Alan Mak from 2002, with Tony Leung and Eric Tsang; “The Departed” by Martin Scorsese from 2006, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jack Nicholson]. In any case, let's say that the theme of betrayed trust and the bad guy who trusts the good guy, who is instead deceiving him, is conveyed very well, or rather doubled by the fact that Eui Jeong also comes into play. So a round of applause to the directors, the screenwriter and the actors.

I really compliment the utent DramaAjumma on the parallel between Gi Cheul and Jay Gatsby, which I totally approve of. She were also very astute in observing that the same woman (Eui Jeong/Daisy Fay) is the driving force behind both men's ambition to achieve high social position. As well as the user @oppa_, who noted that Hae Ryun had very well noticed that there was tension between Jun Mo and Eui Jeong, but this crumb of the story was dropped without giving it any follow-up. Actually, Gi Cheul had noticed it for a moment too.

However, there are wrong elements in the series, even if we leave aside the imaginative way in which an undercover investigation was made, with the absurd involvement of the wife etc. I think Seok Do Hyung's murder scene was rendered in a botched and unbelievable way. A seasoned cop who can be disarmed and fooled so easily? And Jun Mo, why the hell did not he just arrest Seo, given the situation? Seo gave him the gun and he, instead of taking it and shooting him, left it in his hand. Another inconceivable scene is when Jun Mo arrests Gi Cheul, insults him heavily (for no apparent reason) and then incredibly allows him to escape. After working for months, risking his life and taking other's life, precisely for the purpose of arresting Gi Cheul, he lets him go, also putting his wife in danger.

I was extremely impressed by Choi Jeong Bae (the actor Lim Seong Jae is phenomenal). He was right about everything and he was the one who was pushed into the corner the most until he was removed, even though he was probably the most faithful. He is the only one who understood from the beginning that Jun Mo and Eui Jeong both had something wrong; if Gi Cheul had listened to his intuition about them from the beginning, he wouldn't have lost everything. Although Jeong Bae stole from Gi Cheul, his loyalty was far greater than everyone else's, so he is another character who has great ambivalence. Honestly, it is not clear to me why Seo massacres him. He is also the one who finally realizes that Gi Cheul is trying to screw the whole team and abandon the drug dealing. I did not quite understand whether the drugs sold by Jeong bae were stolen from Gi Cheul or the Japanese, in which case he would be the cause of all Gi Cheul's troubles with the Japanese. I was a little perplexed in the scene where he punctures the tire... it is not clear whether he is involved or not in what happens that evening, maybe it is a plot hole.

The forgettable part of the series are the two female characters: the girl is ridiculous and an unlikely drug trafficker, the wife is a vapid deadcat. The actress Im Se Mi must have worked hard to act so expressionlessly, to comply with a script completely devoid of romantic emotions. The female roles and relationships in the three couples had to be left to a female hand. The choice not to show the slightest intimacy between any of them makes any emotion impermissible; where was the smile and joy of being together, typical of lovers? Nothing justifies Jun Mo risking the entire operation to warn Hae Ryun that the Chinese police were about to raid his hideout and leaving her free to continue her crime somewhere else. There is not a single scene from which we understand that Hae Ryun is so in love with him that she betrays her father and gives up her business that allows her to lead the life of a billionaire. The two characters never exchange a look of real complicity or affection. The same goes for Eui Jeong's alleged falling in love, instead she has shown herself to be constantly worried about the safety of her husband: we have never seen Eui Jeong happy in Gi Cheul's arms. Should dating her husband and putting the necklace in plain sight suggest that she is in love with Gi Cheul? Even at the last moment, when she kneels next to the dying Gi Cheul, she does nothing different than anyone with any knowledge of the wounded man would have done.

So it is all assumed, without the effort of any scene in the script showing how the feelings of these four people are growing; everything is taken for granted, including the fact that Jun Mo "understood" that his wife actually no longer loved him, as the ending suggests.

The Worst of Evil is Betrayal

At some points throughout the beginning and middle of the drama I wanted to drop it but something always captured my attention. The last two episodes were tense, I was on the edge of my seat - anticipating the entire time.

At first I didn't want to accept the ending but the more I thought about it, this is as real as it can get.

Ji ChangWook and Wi HaJoon did extremely well with portraying their characters.

I would also like to commend Lee ShinKi (Chief Seo). I look forward to seeing him in more roles. As well as BiBi, she did so well for what I believe is her first time acting (?i'm not sure). I'm so proud of her.

Very addictive

I really loved this drama and watched it really quickly. As always, Ji Chang Wook is a masterpiece, Bibi's character felt just like her but not like her at the same time, and Wi Ha Joon was great, too. I completely forgot he was meant to be the bad guy, to be honest.

The only thing I didn't like was the very last episode. I'll be honest, I didn't like the ending. There was one particular decision made that made me think "WHY??" but maybe some people understood why he did it better than me. I liked that the ending was realistic between Junmo and Euijung, though.

Overall, I'd recommend it! 👍🏻

I think it was really good series <3

I think it was really good series <3
The drama made me think soo much for every minute I was watching. The tensions between the main leads (wi ha joon, ji Chang wook , Im se mi, Bibi) it was really interesting and thrilling. This series really has a good story line , although you will think it pretty obvious but actually it wasn't!

The show was mostly focused on the development between our undercover officer junmo and the drug dealer jung gi cheol which is really nice to watch ...
The action scenes were just Chef's Kiss , they were soo nicely directed and acted cuz while watching the bloody scenes I was feeling soo tensed therefore it didn't got me bored also ...
I would recommend this drama to the people who like to watch action scenes and yes this drama will teach you the real meaning the word 'Betrayal'

SPOILER ALERT (READ THIS ONLY WHEN YOU HAVE WATCHED THE DRAMA) I think people are targeting the female lead too much but why don't they see that junmo was also helping Lee hae ryeun to escape the country. And also the ending where people thought that the divorce scene was unnecessary but it was really important as they should pay for their sins for playing with someone's heart then it doesn't matter what your job is !!

I really enjoyed this drama, if you love JCW then you should definitely give it a try 😉

AAAAAAAAAAA
