Good, but it took a while
My first experience with Ji Hyun was watching Legend of the Sea and this was sent first dram with Soo Hyun. With that being said, I don't think I liked Ji Hyun better here and I don't think all the seriousness from his character suited Soo Hyun. The story in itself was good and it had a lot of potential, but the series got stuck in a few episodes where things should've progressed a little faster from the side plots and the main storyline would've followed, but too much was left for the last four, three episodes and it became rushed and a little too hard to explain to the audience who, I imagine, was expecting a whole lot more.

This Drama came to me on a perfect timing as I was just trying to find something that could bring me to tears not only of sadness but also joy! I started watching it some weeks back but for some reason didn't go pass the first episode. And don't get me wrong here, it's not that it wasn't captivating, I just was too busy and kinda forgot that I was watching it so I ended up watching Dream High instead. That's when I totally fell for Kim Soo Hyun and decided to put my chaos together and give You Who Came from the Stars a try. The result? An absolute vortex of emotions!
This drama won't only keep you at the edge of your seat from all the mystery going on but you'll find yourself riding a rollercoaster of laughter, despair and tears! Not only the storyline is amazing and gives you the perfect vibes of how not even 400 years are enough to learn about love and life but also bombards you with scenes from past and present that will help you understand the main characters without falling in a traditional RomCom where poor extremely good girl meets cold hearted rich guy. The development of all the characters is very good, they all mature in a good way and learn from their own experiences. I will give this drama extra kudos for the villain, I'm not going to enter into much detail but I'm just going to say that THAT's how a villain should be!
The chemistry between the main characters is heartwarming, they are so different and yet compliment each other in a nearly perfect way. Kim Soo Hyun will captivate you with his charm and personality, he's a very lovable character and is so easy to empathize with him. Jun Ji Hyun's character on the other hand has so much charisma that it's impossible not to find yourself smiling during her monologues and hilarious scenes.
The supporting roles complemented the story perfectly. There really wasn't any single one who would get on my nerves and they all develop in a very loving and mature way!
I'm definitely adding this drama to my list of MUST re-watch since I'm sure I'll be enjoying it every time I watch it! So go ahead and give it a try, you won't regret it!!!

I found myself analyzing what is it that made me want to stop watching this drama 1/3 into it? I mean Jun Ji Hyun was funny enough but there was something...it took a while to figure out but in the end I concluded that (don’t hate me please ) the main leads didn’t have chemistry. That and Kim Soo-hyun’s acting, I know his character is supposed be cold and aloof but he ain’t in this one, just a flat affect seemingly in pain majority of the time. In fairness to KSH I don’t think the failure of this drama (for me ) was all on his skills. Even with the overwhelming cliches the plot was not bad per se (it is an older drama after all) but I think that the overall character development of this drama was poor. The one bright spot of this series was Jun Ji Hyun. I have never seen any of her works but I could confidently say, based on her performance, that she was the perfect actress for this role. She made the character real, while bitchy on the outside JJH was able to show Cheon Song Yi’s “normalness” and vulnerability. Her younger brother was supper funny with his E.T. obsession, haha!
If you are new to kdramaland, go ahead and watch and be entertained. However if you have been around for a while skip this one unless you are a KSH OR JJH fan.

-I really liked the "YOU ARE MY EVERYTHINGGG" song
-Do Min Joon was SOO attractive
-The story was good
-I didn't get bored
-There was comedy
-Cheon Song Yi's brother was great!
Some not so great things:
-It had a few plot holes (What doesn't honestly!) Which I don't really care about a ton...although it did bug me a bit more in this drama than most
-Some of the characters were really annoying...but not as bad as in most dramas, so I wouldn't really count that!
Anyways, it was a great show and I really enjoyed watching it!

Nothing over the top.. just wholesome.
The concept of the story is very interesting. How the Male lead was handled can be seen as positive or negative depending on the watcher. ML never used his abilities exceedingly for personal gain or kill enemies. It kinda separated him from Human nature but at the same time he had a lot of human emotions. Female lead wasn't my cup of the year initially but the character grew on me. Overall I must say that the Creators never used Alien powers to make a Super hero show , Romance was melodramatic , Main villain had good story ... nothing over the top.overall I must say it was a good watch. Nothing unexpected happens.

Worth the Watch
This wasn’t perfect, but it was definitely good! The main selling point was the charming, compelling, adorable, amusing main couple (Cheon Song Yi and Do Min Joon) - both of whose actors were attractive people with fantastic acting skills. The plot was okay - some things could have been better explained with the alien stuff, and the murder plot was a bit dragged out at the end. The proper end was also a touch deux ex machina, and again, skimped on the alien/sci-fi explanations/possibilities. That said, I had a really fun time watching this and was definitely absorbed into the emotions of the characters. Also, shout out to Lawyer Jang and Yoon Jae (Song Yi’s little brother)! They were great, too. Overall, this was a solid drama that was worth the watch. Recommended.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
A show that's out of this world (well sort of)
Sometimes you stumble across shows that remain with you for a long time because the characters are memorable and are supported by an actually enjoyable story. My Love From the Star is one of those shows. About a brooding alien with supernatural gifts trapped on earth and a sweet, but rather clueless, actress struggling with the hounding pressure of fame, these two come together to deliver a lovely show. The scenes alternate between beautiful to funny to sad and all of them at once. The chemistry of Kim Soo-Hyun and Jun Ji-Hyun emphatically underpins the show's success. They are incredible together and separately, injecting their characters with a beautiful array of emotions. Jun Ji-Hyun's acting is perhaps more memorable simply because her character is far more vivid and vibrant than Kim Soo-Hyun's rather guarded character. The support cast around them also delivers and that is perhaps what stands it out from a lot of other Kdrama shows. Support characters cannot exist as "support characters" to the lives of the lead ones. This is not how real life works where everyone has their own inner turmoil and is the centrepiece of their own story.
The story of course is undercut with a sense of tragedy. And an alien and a human together just isn't meant to be, at least one of the characters knows this at all times. Nonetheless, the show drives at your heart with some beautiful storytelling that also perhaps conveys a message about South Korea's rather relentless culture around its pop idols. One moment they are stars, the next they are falling from the sky into the abyss, replaced by the next brightest dot in the sky.
I'm a little mixed on the ending but it's still a terrific show.

Cute and Funny!
Likes: Jun Ji Hyun...the woman had me burst out laughing in so many parts. Jun Ji Hyun and Kim Soo Hyun's amazing chemistry.Dislikes: Don't really have any
I just rewatched this as I'm watching another Kim Soo Hyun drama that's currently airing and wanted some more KSH and romcom funny to tide me over until the next episode airs. I had forgotten how funny this drama was, even the 2nd time around.
This drama caused such a sensation all across Asia that literally anything Jun Ji Hyun touched would sell out in seconds. And with good reason...not only is JJH stunningly beautiful, but she's also hilarious in this role. She's not afraid to let her hair down and be wacky and her unique way of speaking just cracked me up. There is no other actress that could have played this character better. GIRL CRUSH!
Oh, Kim Soo Hyun... He's just SO cute! And a good actor. And he plays a super strong alien which means he's got the power to kick some butt EXCEPT he's got a major weakness that will lend itself to some pretty hilarious situations with JJH. This is a great opposites attract romcom that I highly recommend! I mean, I've watched it twice!

Characters: Kim Soo Hyun does a remarkable job as Do Min Joon, an alien stranded on earth. He decides to cut himself off from humans as much as possible as helping the humans is what got him stranded on Earth in the first place. His new next-door neighbor is Chun Song Yi, the obnoxious actress and celeb played by Jun Ji Hyun. These two not only have chemistry but are super fun fun fun to watch together.
The supporting characters are just as flushed out and real with Lee Hui Kyung (played by my oppa Park Hae Jin) as the rich wanna-be fiancé, Yoo Se Mi is the not-so nice friend, and Lee Jae Kyung is the psychopath I love to hate. The other characters like Song Yi’s mother and brother and her friend (the comic book store owner with funny minions) are just outright hilarious and add very nicely to the story.
Storyline: The story is about a 400+ year old alien that is stuck on earth. Three months before finally having the ability to leave, he meets Chun Song Yi who repels him and fascinates him at the same time. The relationship between the two characters ranges from hilarious to heart wrenching. I loved every moment the two were on the screen together (the beach scene being the very best…both funny and sad).
The character of Do Min Joon was so interesting (he is a bit brooding and I do love those brooding males). His experiences over four hundred years in Korea were fascinating and illustrated well why he was the way he was. I loved that the role of Chun Song Yi was more humorous than “beautiful.” The fact that they made her beauty as part of the joke, made it even better. This is one of the best Korean female character portrayals I have watched. I was never bored with Chun Song Yi.
The psychotic Lee Jae Kyung played by Shin Sung Rok was really good. He was scary from the very beginning. I read that Park Hae Jin was originally up for the character of the evil brother but I’m glad he played the brother Lee Hui Kyung instead. At first his character seemed frivolous but then really turned out to be a very well-balanced character and I have to say, I loved it when he stood up to his father and his brother. His performance in this show is another reason why he remains my very favorite Korean actor.
If you are looking for an entertaining show with exciting characters and not a whole lot of murder and mayhem (well…there is a little), then You Who Came from the Stars is a great show to binge watch. Oh, and don’t forget to watch the epilogue. If you can’t find it with the episode, it can be found on YouTube. I promise you will be less satisfied with the show if you miss the epilogue.

Do Min Joon (Kim Soo Hyun) who is an alien has been stranded off on earth since decades. He has led a relatively low key life, never drawing too much attention towards himself and his alien powers. This has not only kept him away from the public eye, but has also made him lead a pretty lonely life. He misses his home and wants to go back to his own planet especially because there is nothing tying him to stay on earth. Enters Chun Song Yi (Jun Ji Hyun), an eccentric and lively top rated actress whose life is always displayed out in the public with not a single moment of privacy. Despite all that, she is extremely lonely at heart. When the two meet, spark fly and despite the denial of the obvious chemistry between the two, the come close to heal each other's loneliness.
The story is set with a comical background with some heavy moments. It will make you laugh, it will make you cry and it will make you wonder about a lot of things.
