Emotional and Beautiful

I started watching the series after episode 3 had aired because I saw people raving about it. How easily attached they got to the characters, how touched they are by the story. And what they said was all true. I got hooked so quickly. The chemistry between the leads is wonderful. The show is so good at giving you these emotional moments that make you wonder why am I so touched? Why am I crying? What just happened?

The cute stuff is stinking cute. The emotional stuff hits you in the face. The show hurts you on the regular but you are also happy about it.

This is not a fast paced show. This show is for everyone who enjoys characters getting to know each other better, enjoying each other's company, growing in the process.

The acting is so good. Everyone delivered but especially Jimmy and Sea. Both are such expressive actors. Their eyes and faces say it all. If someone watched Vice Verca before and is on the fence because of it, fear not. The acting truly is top notch.

Stand out episodes for me are episodes 3 and 9. These episodes especially did something to my heart.

Masterpiece

They honestly couldn't have done any better with this series. The story was well written, the acting was superb, the music complimented every emotion, the series is a masterpiece. Their are very few shows that can draw you in with a slow burn of just pure emotions. From their first meeting I could not believe how simple, but effectively written their meeting was. Complemented beautifully by some amazing acting, where the chemistry could be felt from the TV. Sea and Jimmy had me from the moment he made his come for his ID. The perfect setup for the rollercoaster to come.

They took such a sensitive situation and they did it with so much realism and respect. The main characters handled their parts so well and the very important sub-characters that normalised what they have to live with just by being in their lives. It was very well done, showing all the facets of how one problem affects everyone in various ways, even if it isn't your problem. Nothing was hard and fast, the buildup moving through every emotion was a treat, I felt like I lived in his triumphs, his failures, his fear, his disappointments. I didn't love every moment of it, but I loved every moment of it. Love, fear, heartache, sacrifice and growth are all parts of life and they surely displayed this during the series. Even though most of the series was on the aftermath of an incident, having all the back stories perfectly timed and placed made everything even more memorable.

The chemistry between all of the cast was a delight, the reveal of the cause was simple but I got a deeper understanding of why the brothers dynamics was so raw in the beginning. Having Night's pain be felt with every interaction he had with Day, only to find out why it was so painful made their relationship mean so much more to me. He is truly a great big brother, despite his mistakes. Their mother, was exactly that, their mother. She didn't always have a good display of balance between caring for her children, but that is understandable given the circumstances, doesn't make it okay, but she tried and got better at it towards the end. Though it was simply beef stew, at least she remembered it was two children she needs to always show love to.

There're some things I would change, but it was perfect overall.

It broke my heart knowing they were apart for three years but I understand that it was needed, Mhok could heal his wounds and traumas and Day learned to live happily with his blindness, even if it was difficult. I just wish they didn't put that dialogue of him saying he forgot how to be happy when he was blind, it's like erasing all his progression.
And while I thought it would've been nice if they kept the blindness representation until the very end I don't dislike Day getting his vision back, because the series showed he did live a happy and normal life while being blind during those three years.
Porjai and Night getting the family they deserved after everything was completely beautiful and their wedding was all I needed to see.
The OST was on point too, the filmography and locations were perfect.

This was beautiful

I'm not exaggerating when I say this show is beautiful. The story, the script, the acting, the score, the visuals, everything about this show was done so well. This show is legitimately one of the best shows I've ever watched. I think I have a thing for jimmysea but it's not only them. Mark, namtan, film, ohm, truly an amazing cast. I love the fact they didn't make day's mother perfect nor too mean/bad. I also really relate to Night and hes actually my favorite character. The level of impact episode 9 has on me is astronomical and you wouldn't fully understand if you didn't watch the earlier episodes. Truly an amazing show and one of gmmtvs best.

Stunning, Emotional, and Nearly Perfect

As is typical with shows directed by Aof, this is a masterpiece. The visuals are beautiful, the acting wonderful, and the storyline nearly perfect. I watched this as it aired and I looked forward to it every single week.

Day (Sea) has recently gone blind and is suffering mentally because of this. He has fallen into a depressive episode, refusing to leave his room or even open his blinds. His mom has had to hire caretaker after caretaker because no one can seem to put up with Day and his attitude - until Mhok (Jimmy). Mhok is trying to get any job he can to earn money, which isn't too easy when you have a criminal record. Day knows his mom will hate Mhok, which is precisely why he chose him, hoping that this will stop his mom from hiring someone else. Unexpectedly, Mhok seems more committed to this job than anyone ever has, and it seems that the key to winning Day over was simply to treat him like a normal person. Slowly, feelings start to develop between the two as Mhok shows Day that life can be just as wonderful even though he's gone blind.

*Spoilers Start Here*

Up until the finale, this show was actually perfect. Not a plot point was out of place, the pacing was wonderful, and the development of the characters and their relationship was absolutely beautiful. Watching Mhok and Day learn about themselves through each other and fight to be together was absolutely wonderful. However, the only reason I couldn't give this a 10/10 was the finale. I was concerned the first time Day received the cornea transplant, and was surprisingly relieved when it didn't work. I kept thinking - this entire show is about overcoming the challenges of being blind and Day learning to accept himself and his new reality, so why would they make it so he could see again? So in the finale when Day gets a SECOND cornea transplant that works, I was a little disappointed. It felt a bit like saying "your life will get better because your disability can be healed!" which is not typically how that works. I understand the narrative they made of "giving things a second chance" and how the second cornea transplant worked into that, but it still felt a bit off to suddenly throw in Day regaining his sight in a show that otherwise focused on how he could make the most of his life and be happy and in love despite his disability. So, I can only say this show was nearly perfect. It is still a beautiful show that is 100% worth watching, though it is an emotional one. Luckily, these emotional aspects aren't the typical relationship troubles, but rather Mhok and Day as a couple working through the hardships that come their way.

Beautiful and poignant, hits all the right buttons

This is the kind of no drama that feels authentic and is realistic. No manufactured problems or misunderstandings, or ex gf/bf to cause trouble, just for the sake of drama and yet it fills the 12 episodes up well. Which goes to show what a good storyline and acting with the bonus of a nice OST can do. Kudos to the screenwriter, director and actors for the sensitive portrayal of the subject of blindness. All the characters were slightly flawed, but there were no villains or angels.
One point I want to say is I was worried going into this because of a lot of negative feedback on the final episodes. But I was relieved to find out that it didn’t disappoint me at all. Everyone has an opinion of the best ending, but I’m just glad everything wrapped up positively. I hate gay dramas with negative portrayals and unnecessary bad endings. Perhaps that’s why the book had the last page missing, the ending is best if you did not have any expectations on the major plot lines, just wish for the best for the protagonists.

A spectucular sunset of a show - vivid, warm, bursting with colour

Yeah, so this one is an absolute masterpiece.
I'm a complete sucker for slow, introspective coming-of-age/love-story hybrids so it's no surprise I fell head over heels in love with this show, but even my personal bias aside this series is, objectively, a damn triumph.
The cinematography, the frankly stunning performances, the recurring narrative themes, the sets... every aspect of this show is spectacular and the creators' deep love for their craft and their attention to detail is woven into its every facet.

Besides tackling the undeniable complex topic of disability, the show explores a variety of difficult and mature themes with great care and insight. It analyses grief in its various forms, complicated familial relationships and the nature of guilt and blame, as well as loneliness and isolation.
My absolute favourite of these themes, however, is the depictions of socio-economic differences and difficulties and the impact this has on every aspect of people's lives. Ever since watching Dark Blue Kiss it's been clear to me that P'Aof has a chip on his shoulder about the class divide in general and how it relates to queerness specifically and this is incredibly apparent here as well, in the portrayal of Mhok and his relationships to the people and world around him, as well as to the concepts of masculinity, queerness, and success. It may not be a main focus of the story, but a big part of Mhok's characters development stems from him coming to terms with his experiences of going through life as a former convict, society's view of him, and how this affects his perception of himself. It is nothing short of spectacular and I deeply appreciate the inclusion of these plot lines, however minor they may be.

And the characters... my god, the characters. If it wasn't already obvious from all my fawning in the previous paragraph, I am absolutely smitten with Mhok in particular, but quite honestly there isn't really anyone in the entire cast of characters whom I don't like or whose inclusion feels unnecessary.
Further personal favourites include Phojai - who is wonderfully multifaceted and deeply human character and whose relationship with Mhok means a whole lot to me personally - and Night, who is clearly a deeply traumatised person that carries his guilt around with him like a damn yoke but tries so incredibly hard anyway. His little tortured face will probably continue to ever so slightly haunt me for the rest of my life, to be honest.
And then there's Day who, in my opinion, is a surprisingly misunderstood and contentious character. I personally do not have any sort of significant visual impairment so take my opinions on the topic with a grain of salt, but I am firmly in the camp of "the disability rep in this show is really good, actually".
If I understand correctly, the showrunners made sure to get a lot of input from blind and otherwise disabled folks in order to depict the realities of their lives accurately and respectfully and it shows. The writing is never preachy or patronising, and Day isn't simply a tragic yet inspiring figure for the audience to project onto, no. He is a well fleshed-out, three-dimensional character with believable and deeply human flaws. His story is inspiring not because or in spite of his blindness, it's inspiring because his struggles with loneliness and isolation, with anger, resentment, and the complete collapse of his self-image are deeply relatable and pretty much universally applicable.
For further insight on this topic is especially in light of the show's ending, I highly recommend having a look at the "Some thoughts on the ending" topic in the Recent Discussions section, it might help anyone still feeling conflicted help sort out their thoughts :). Beware of spoilers though, obviously.

My one gripe with the story is how rushed the last episode feels in certain respects. The conflict feels realistic and makes sense for the characters, but really, couldn't we have brought it up just a few episodes earlier instead of keeping the dreaded episode 11 curse alive? I really think that showing more of Mhok's character growth as well as him dealing with his PTSD would have made the story feel more complete and well-rounded as well as helping to keep the pacing consistent.
In all honesty though, this is a relatively minor complaint compared to how fantastic this show is as a whole and it thankfully didn't even take away too much from my enjoyment of the ending.
I think I shed real actual tears when I saw Mhok had removed the little bandage from Rung's car so on the whole things balanced out for me.

In short, this is one of the most well-written, thoughtful queer shows in recent years. It is a timeless tale about hope and the resilience of the human spirit and if that sounds a bit too pretentious then let me assure you: it is, at its heart, a simple story about falling in love. Falling in love with people, with yourself, and with the world.
Go watch it already, you won't regret it, I promise!
