Good Enough
Korean Drama '' The Matchmakers '' is a historical romantic comedy. The drama has a delightful to watch female lead, who was adorable, sassy, feisty, and nailed her emotional moments. She actually carried the drama when things started getting cheesy and boring.
Also, the couple was enjoyable to watch, as they had interesting banter and their dynamics were spot on. However, the love story was just okay, taking off only toward the ending of the series, and being more or less unoriginal. Still, the drama handled them having a significant other that they missed masterfully.
The performances, finally, were pretty great by everyone in the cast, even the side characters. The final episodes, however, were rushed and boring.
So, overall, five out of ten.

Such a delightful drama
I loved this drama. Just the right amounts of humor, chemistry, character development, dialog and scene movement. A clever storyline(which is difficult in the world of Joseon dramas) of love overarching reasonable outcomes with the sub story of the power hungry, nefarious mother in law that in the end receives her just desserts. The secondary storylines were every bit as good as the main love story. Top 10 Joseon drama on my list simply because it was delightful. The very best of cheesiness ♥️.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

Overall a fun watch.
The matchmakers is one of those dramas that i am on edge about. I neither loved it nor hated it. But the story was interesting enough for me to continue watching it. The show was hilarious at times.I enjoyed watching the first 6 and last 3 episodes the most, the mission to marry the three sisters thrilled me and I was excited to see who each one of them will be paired with. Apart from the 3 sister’s marriage mart, the love story between our main leads, a widow and widower was intriguing. As their situation was no ordinary one, the curiosity keeps you going. The interactions between Lord shim and Lady yeoju were fun to watch. Rowoon is such a cuteheart throughout the drama, his expressions and body language was hilarious. I never thought he could play a comic role this good. He brought life to the show.
The drama started out soo well but lost track in the middle of the story. The matchmaking mission slowly turned into a murder mystery mission . And to solve those murder mysteries, new characters were introduced out of nowhere. They felt out of place to me. The homosexual monk and lady jung’s brother in law story didn’t explain how and why real lady yeoju was falsely accused of murder? This story was most out of place in the drama.
I was kinda bummed that none of the 3 sisters ended up with the bachelors they were initially paired up with in the matchmaking process. Considering how lady yeoju was an expert matchmaker and not a single match went according to plan!! I know it was because they weren’t meant to be but still atleast one pair could’ve had an arrange marriage if not all. To set an example that arrange marriages can work too, not everyone falls in love. Suddenly all old bachelors and ladies fell in love in the same episode. It was bit hasty.
Last but not the least a teenager boy and an adult women were paired up to get married. That was uncomfortable to watch. I was soo mad about this pairing it made me forget about other couples.
The drama was a rollercoaster ride with its ups & downs and good & bad moments. But the story was original and different from what I have watched before . Also can’t deny that the show was hilarious.

Such an underrated show. Definitely deserves more hype
I’ve just finished the drama and it’s hilarious. Why is this drama soo underrated!!! It’s not the best out there but good enough.I’ve watched all kdramas of Rowoon and the matchmakers is my favourite drama of him after Tomorrow. Rowoon rocked his character as Shim jung woo. He is an amusing and hysterically funny character. The more we get to know him the more appealing he becomes. His character development from being a man of principle to being agent of love added more to his charms hehe. Female lead was cute. She was bubbly yet mature at the same time.
The whole matchmaking plot was hilarious, from teaching the sisters the art of eye contact to the chaotic wedding day, i laughed like crazy. Among all the chaos, the sweet moments between the couples were heartwarming. Jung woo and princess encounter story was soo adorable, kinda made me sad for them. Everything adds up episode by episode. The shows gets political and serious in some episodes but that’s alright since I laughed a lot too. Some moments made me emotional too. That’s the beauty of a good drama.
The review won’t be complete without mentioning what bothered me. Yes! the odd pairing of crown prince and lady ha na!! This pairing made no sense till the end. But as they were one of many couples and not the main lead couple soo I can overlook it. Also only if the writer had maintained the same humorous vibe till the end of the story, it would’ve been better as the story got quite tense towards the end. But because I enjoyed the 1st half of the show more I will let it slide.

Romeo and Juliet in their 20's (so less raging hormones)
This one's for those who love watching relationship-based shows like - love actually, lovestruck in the city.Only 1 slap count for the entire series - good job. And just for that, this is one sageuk I will watch again in spite of the usual political intrigues and family rivalry.
- Selling off sons and daughters in exchange for social status? Check.
- Feeding your daughter poison so they can no longer leave the house? Check.
- Working in the government for the sake of family instead of the people? Check.
Now, do not be surprised at how condescending men were with women and how women were used as tools of trade all for the sake of filial piety. Confucianism taken to the extreme because this is how they interpreted his teachings - a concept that exists to this day.
This "Romeo and Juliet" kdrama is as romantic as it can go but is also a celebration of the Confucian culture and the resulting disease that plagued Joseon because of people who took advantage of it with ardent fanaticism. These and more wrapped up in a tidy bow called "fiction".
There were some really funny banters. The king was an everyday cool guy 😅 and I enjoyed his scenes the most.
A lot of gags like:
a brother nor recognising his sister because of makeup,
the king apologising after being screamed and glared only to remember he was the king 😅

Hidden gem
I went into this drama not expecting much but I was blown away by the plot and theme behind it. The matchmakers is a light romantic comedy with a social message. The story takes place in joseon dynasty but even in today’s time, matchmaking practice exists in some cultures. Hence I was able to relate to this drama.
The main lead couple’s romance builds up slowly. Since they both are widowed and their circumstances are complicated so it makes sense for the romance to be slow paced. Yet their story is unique and free from all k-drama cliches. i was skeptic of their chemistry in the beginning but the chemistry gets better as the story progresses. The other couples were cute too except for the older sister and the crown prince. Hana was pretty and smart so i was expecting a good match for her but she was paired with a kid.🥲. Awkward..
Our hero, Jung woo aka “the man of anger” is adorable. The writer did an amazing job here by making us think that Jong woo’s chest pain signifies envy towards couples and is symbolic to his loneliness but it turns out that’s bcz he is the agent of love. This made his character look even more significant to the story. As for the FL, Oh how i love a strong female lead who is not a damsel in distress. Soon deok although a widow but is cheerful and ambitious women. I enjoyed to see a female lead like her. I enjoyed their teamwork and awkward interactions. They were sweet and hilarious at the same time.
Loved the drama, it was fresh and I am glad i watched it.

Filled with fillers!
Main reason I dropped the show isn't because of the story per se, but I just don't feel that attracted by ML, FL or both of them. Nothing specifically charismatic here, despite the ML being actually cute as a person, but the character here just doesn't quite cut it.As for the show, It's unnecessarily draggy and gets boring over time. It started out funny and somewhat exciting for first few episodes, and it just gets boring. It's actually quite nice and funny, but it's not something that needs 16 episodes. well, it's a typical long-winded Kdrama style lol... Honestly, its not that bad, its just too much fillers for me, so i ended up skipping parts.
But, if you like something easy to watch, and just relax, give it a try.

A Historical With A Funny Tone
Rowoon (“Destined with You”) is back onscreen with his next romcom, which happens to be a historical. Starring alongside Cho Yi Hyun, “The Matchmakers” is about two widowers, Shim Jung Woo & Jung Soon Deok, who are pressured by the royal family into marrying three maidens representing the spinster problem in the Joseon dynasty. Both of them have varied personalities, with Jung Soon Deok leading a double life that is closely guarded. The drama relies a lot on the customs and traditions that tied down widows in ancient Joseon. Now, widowers weren’t specifically affected, but Shim Jung Woo suffers because he has a special identity. You can’t question the absurdity of their situations because we are talking about times that were orthodox and fanatical. The first two episodes do a good job of introducing the main characters, as we get a glimpse into their lives. Soon Deok leads an exciting, satisfying one while Jung Wook’s is dull and unfulfilling.Read the complete article here-

Boring
Since starting episode ,it is bored . Entry of leads had no impact . Even their acting was very loose . Male lead is one of my favourite but this time his acting was dull and female lead's acting was little bit over . When I read the synopsis I found it l interesting but when I watched first episode it was not started the way it was introduced in the synopsis . I thought may be the story would go in flash back so I continued to watch but till 4th episode there were no glimpse of such thing and I didn't find it interesting and I stop continue to watch it.For me it was a bored one.
