This should have been a special episode only…

Let’s be real, they could have just put the last arc in a special episode and it would work way better. Most of the episodes were nonsensical and Minato was just frustrating on a whole next level. Why did he feel even more shy and teen panic after they got together than in season 1?

Season 2 does not really give you many sweet scenes to feed your fluff desires, nor does it develop characters in any meaningful way. Everything important happens in the last 2 and half episodes, so what’s the point of all the rest? I thought I suck at romance, but Minato is a whole new level of failure and if it was not for Shin’s undying patience, this relationship would fail hard. Realistically speaking, I just mostly felt bad for Shin in the first 10 episodes.

The second couple was way too similar in their dynamics to Minato and Shin, I quickly lost interest… Misunderstanding and lack of communication is a clear indicator the writer did not really have any solid idea what to do with them, they existed to fill the screen time.

The acting was great, just as it was in season 1. At least from Kusakawa Takuya and Nishigaki Sho. Quite a few scenes that were surprisingly touching, a number of scenes that worked only because they did their best to deliver, even if the script itself was lacking.

Overall, it’s more or less skip worthy.

A Disappointing Sequel to an Anticipated Series

When Season 2 was released, my excitement knew no bounds. Unfortunately, that excitement slowly withered away as I watched each episode. This season failed to live up to the expectations set by its predecessor, mishandling the elements that made Season 1 interesting. Stretched thin due to a lack of substantial material, the series showed no progression in the relationship between Minato and Shin. With just 8 episodes, a shift in the characters of the main leads could have vastly improved this.

Season 2 picks up where Season 1 left off. Minato and Shin have been dating for six months, but Minato continues to push Shin away, refusing to let their relationship deepen, even averting his gaze whenever Shin is nearby. Meanwhile, Asuka and Shu's romance blossoms, with Shu becoming more comfortable with his feelings for Asuka.

In an ironic twist, the adult characters, Minato and Shu, act like children, while the teenagers, Shin and Asuka, display more maturity in helping their partners navigate their complicated relationships. Minato's inexplicable hesitations and irrational fear of confessing his true feelings to Shin remain a major plot point. Unlike Season 1, where Minato's rejection was somewhat understandable due to unresolved issues, his behavior becomes increasingly frustrating as those issues are seemingly fixed. Minato's reluctance to progress in the relationship is unexplained, leaving his character one-dimensional and annoying. If his hesitation were rooted in past failed relationships and the fear of losing Shin, it could have added depth to his character. Instead, Shin tirelessly pursues Minato, attempting to convince him to take their relationship to the next level, while Minato continues to create distance between them.

In conclusion, 'Minato Souji Coin Laundry 2' disappoints due to its underdeveloped, one-dimensional characters who behave like petulant children. The lack of character development and narrative progression undermines its potential as a romantic comedy. Although Takuya and Sho deliver commendable performances, the script does little justice to their talents.

Minato is worse than a child

Okay i get season 1 and Minato being uncomfortable with how pushy Shin was ,but if he decided to get into a relationship with him and claims to love him why is it so damn hard for him to say or show it a bit

I'd get if the show were to explain Minato's intimacy issues and why he has them, but simply "he's too young" doesn't cut it since Minato behaves like he's 10 years younger than Shin and jumps every time Shin even breathes next to him

Ive been getting more and more frustrated each episode

Just an awful series!

To be honest, this was one of the most exasperating series I have ever watched. In a few instances I found myself getting so angry with Minato that if I were literally his friend in real life, I would have told him that his behavior towards Shin is tantamount to emotional abuse if not neglect. He is an awful character and frankly does not deserve the adulation that Shin heaps on him daily. Shin is the worst kind of fool as he cannot ‘see’ (does not want to see) how toxic Minato really is. One day, he will wake up and realize that he is. That will be a sad day. There is no point in rehashing the story. Very little has changed from Season One. Although Minato and Shin are in a ‘relationship’, perhaps on an intellectual basis, there is little on an emotional one and nothing on a physical level. To have one on an emotional one, you NEED two people and a willingness to commit. Ditto for a physical one.
I hated this series and detested what messages they leave behind, trying somehow to make toxicity entertaining. I simply did not find this series even remotely amusing.

Almost Emotional Abuse

I hate to rate this so low when the actors do such a good job with what they have to work with. I agree with the other reviews here, the growth from the last season feels lost. Season 2 keeps repeating the affection and communication issue with very little progress. The fact they still barely go as far as a kiss despite being two adults in a relationship for over 3 months is unrealistic and unbelievable. Akita constantly pushing Shin away, refusing basic intimacy or communication is borderline emotional abuse.

Don’t let others deter you away!

Okay so I’m gonna go against most people with this review. The problem with many BL watchers these days is that they’re impatient and expect too much (myself included).
Did I expect season two to be drawn out and repetitive as the first season? No. However, let’s put this Into perspective. As we seen in season one Minato is childish and overdramatized but hey that’s okay bc same. People seem to not realize that season two is literally not that long after season one in their timeline. Shin is still very much young and although he’s still very persistent I can understand why Minato still feels uneasy with their relationship. Clearly he wants and loves shin but let’s not act like these external factors like the clearly huge ass age difference isn’t an issue that can be solved over night.
Like they literally barley hold hands and y’all expect more?
In season 2 we get more of the side couple!!!!! I’m living for them. They give me life!
I’m not even gonna address episode nine though because right whenever we get a much deserved scene and moment between Shin and Minato something else changes that and laughs in our face. They said y’all kept begging, nagging, and yapping about Minato being immature and not having any moments with Shin so we’ll give it to you. But at what cost *insert that ugh emoji*.
Actually now it seems like I’m trying to deter you away from the show lol. Anyways just watch it. It won’t kill you (hopefully) to watch it and it has a good looking cast. But like in all seriousness Minato needs to give shin what he needs *insert smirk emojo* or let him go *insert crying emoji*.
I cannot lie I was part of that pitch forks and knives group telling Minato to grow a pair and let everyone die in peace. And btw Minato is still every bit of annoying until the last episode*insert crying emoji*.

Extremely frustrating avoid unless you want to be irritated

Minato is a complete dick leading Shin on for 2 seasons. He's so repressed. After season 1 after he finally agreed to be with Shin he just kept stringing Shin along. He refused to develop their relationship with Shin and kept him at arm's length or even further. He would claim he loved Shin back but he did absolutely nothing to deserve Shin for him to stay as long as he did. If anything he did everything possible to make Shin to stop liking him whenever he tried to be romantic with Minato. For 2 seasons I wish for Shin to finally come to his senses and stop pursuing Minato. Minato even had to get drunk just for poor Shin to hear Minato didn't want to be in love but didn't want to be alone either. He is just a hypocrite and poor Shin had to deal with Minato's indecisiveness. It was so painful to watch, you would think a 30+ yr old would be more mature but it was Shin who was the mature one. He would legit just give poor Shin breadcrumbs whenever he would feel the distance grow between them after he would keep pushing Shin away and poor Shin would always come crawling back cuz he was so stubborn to give up the hope Minato would finally give Shin the affection he's craved for yrs from Minato. Minato absolutely doesn't deserve Shin whatsoever. Every time you would think we are going to get a romantic moment with them and watch their relationship finally blossom Minato runs, screams, and pushes Shin away every single time! Like in S1 it makes sense cuz Shin was still a child but they did the time jump right before S1 ended and Shin was an adult so you would of thought Minato would stop being that way but alas no Minato is still like that even after Shin is in his 20s, going to university and working. Even when they live together for a while cuz Shin's house is getting renovated Minato doesn't want Shin anywhere near him even when they go on vacation. I even took a break from watching it and only started to watch it again cuz I have a friend who started to read the manga. She has a habit of spoiling everything cuz she can't keep her mouth shut so I started up where I left off and remembered why I put the drama on hold. I can't stand Minato, I just think Minato kept Shin around cuz he liked all the attention Shin showered him with cuz he was lonely and didn't even like Shin romantically. He probably thinks he does but can't ever get physical with him or say I love you. I also really hate how for 2 seasons we don't get anything romantic and when Minato finally lets Shin get close he gets into an accident and the stupid author gave Shin amnesia gotta love the never-ending drama just cuz. Only just cuz Shin forgot who he was that's when he started to show he cared for him and I was already fed up with the show..... if it wasn't for Shin's friend and sister Minato was about to let Shin go. honestly, I think it would have been for the best cuz he isn't good for Shin. Shin would of had a better chance to find someone who would of actually shown him the love he deserves and not have someone like Minato to play with his emotions. Even after all the efforts of their friends Minato still refused to let Shin get close to him even if it was to help Shin jog back his memories a complete waste of a story tbh. Shin was even willing to let them help him, especially Minato. You would see Shin even after he forgot he was dating Minato his feelings for him were still there. Even Shin knew something was going on between them but couldn't remember what it was. I didn't like how Minato made it seem like Shin and he were so close when Shin was asking him all these questions until Shin asked where their relationship was and Minato finally admitted their relationship level was nothing cuz he refused Shin to let him develop their romance together. Even hearing himself say there relationship wasn't going anywhere Shin still wanted to try, but stupid Minato after everything of feeling depressed about Shin losing his memory and spent all day with him trying to help Shin remember him was still willing to give up on Shin. After they argue they finally get back together cuz Shin finds a letter Minato wrote but never gave Shinl, once he read it all of a sudden all of his memories magically came back and that's when they finally spend a romantic night together, and only cuz Shin reminded him that he can't run away after kissing cuz the idiot was about to run away again after shin started to get all touchy-feely on Minato was trying to run away from having sex and if it wasn't for Shin reminding him they got into that mess cuz of Minato constantly running away they slept together but Minato was still like ehh to close. The show does have a good ending but not really worth the stress of seeing Minato play Shin so badly. It's such a shame how the story gets played out cuz both actors have such amazing chemistry together and we would have had so many great moments of them if the writers of the manga didn't keep making Minatos character into such a dick. The moments we got robbed due to Minato's lack of courage of not being honest with himself and leading Shin on for so long.

disappointed with the writing (start at ep 7)

Overall: I was hoping for continued character growth from Minato and Shin but unfortunately the first 6 episodes went back to square one but also circled around and around the very tired poor communication cliche. It pains me to rate this under an 8 but a 29 year old is somehow more immature than a 5 year old. 12 episodes about 25 minutes each. Aired on GagaOOLala except for Japan, South Korea or Taiwan. This is my review of the first season https://mydramalist.com/profile/blcompilations/reviews/217311/

Watch advice: start at episode 7, end at episode 9 towards the end when Shu is on the stairs, maybe pick it up in episode 11 though Minato frustrates me again in that episode (Shu/Asuka have a cute interaction around 8 minutes), definitely pick it up in episode 12 around 9 minutes with the letter.

Content Warnings: manipulation, 18 year old and 29 year old (they way the story unfolds the age gap does not bother me), Shin is a bit aggressive maybe dub con though they are in an established relationship

What I Liked
- good recap at the beginning
- cute intro/OST
- callbacks to the first season
- some sweet/funny moments
- Shin seeks communication and listed reasons of why he likes Minato
- Asuka and Shu grew on me more and more as the series went on and how they talked with each other and figured out what their partner wanted/needed and tried to meet those needs
- production value

Room For Improvement
- disappointed how Minato constantly refuses verbal or physical affection, was hoping to see that he was working on this/had become more comfortable after 3 months, wish they had made him still nervous in front of other people but affectionate when it was just the two of them and then this season he worked on PDA (public displays of affection), in season 1 I excused Minato's behavior due to internal/external homophobia and societal pressure but in season 2 it really seems that he's not ready to be in a romantic relationship with a man (or really anyone due to his awful communication skills and unwillingness to work on what his partner wants in a relationship), even at the very end they show Minato as being reluctant or joking with Shin related to physical/verbal affection
- the cliche plot points, it felt like a poorly written fanfic story, I did some research and it is almost medically impossible for that to happen to Shin in the way that they portrayed it as happening, totally lazy writing

It was cute, but frustrating.

This season is incredibility frustrating.

Akira is aware of his feelings, but he purposefully pushes them down until finally he admits them, and then, the writers decided to give Shin amnesia. Which I think made Shin slightly out of character. Shin is someone who is aware of his feelings, and the amnesia plot took that away.

While I agree that Akira was very immature, I don't think that the same applies to Shu. I definitely think it was slightly frustrating, but his character is simply oblivious and unaware of his surroundings. I actually kind of like his character in contrast. I think it fit, and the ending of their story line was very nice. Overall, if I were to re-watch this, I would do it for Asuka and Shuu and not for Akira and Shin.

Minato Coin Laundromat: Where love's spin cycle meets rinse and repeat...and forget?

Season one warms your heart like that snuggly sweater on a chilly night. But season two? More like accidentally dyeing your whites pink. Minato's sudden cold feet with Shin? Imagine realizing you've been using fabric softener instead of detergent all along. And oh, the selective amnesia? Must've been left behind with those missing socks. A tip: Before diving into season two, maybe keep those emotional delicates in a protective mesh bag!

If you’re into those acquired taste kind of characters, give Minato a whirl. But me? Watching him was like enduring a never-ending spin cycle!

It could have been so good!

After season one, I was expecting season two to have some progress, and of course a happy ending. Instead, we have 10 episodes of the same torture of inability by Minato to act on his emotions. Please! What does shin see in him? I understand he has an obsession due to his early experiences, however, after all the rejection, he really should reevaluate. I completely understand that the whole point of the series is to show how broken Minato’s compass is. But 11 episodes?? So the 12th episode is not believable and not even as cathartic as it should be. If there is a third season, I hope it’s about Shin finding a normal guy who shows some appreciation for his love. And Minato goes back to the laundromat where he belongs!!
I must underline that the acting is great from all the actors. The settings are wonderful, and in all aspects other than the story this is an amazing series. that’s the only reason I finished watching it.

It's a cute show, but that is it. Weak writing and a repetitive plot.

Score: 7.5/10, (+0.5 for chemistry and cuteness)

The greatest strengths of this show are chemistry among the cast and cuteness. Both Sho - Takuya, Tomoya-Inaba passed chemistry classes. Their interactions are very natural and there are a lot of heartfelt moments in the show. Acting skills are good as well, and I've seen an improvement in Takuya's acting.
Now let's talk about its weaknesses. I'm holding a lot of grudge with the writing of this show. "Are we going back to square 1?". And well, we definitely did. Compared to season 1, season 2 barely added anything new, it's like one step forward, one step back, and for ep 11, it's three steps back. Their love definitely sparked on the beach scene in ep 12 season 1, but season 2 flipped the show all over. I did expected more development in their love story or at least some character development, not just copying the same format of season 1 and pasting to another 12 eps. It's a season 1 ver 2.0.
But ofc that's not what i hate most. It's character development. The writer turned Shin - a well-mannered boy who's holding his affection towards his crush for 10 years, into a toxic pushy boyfriend with control behaviors. He left Minato's no personal space or time to think. He kept pushing forward to the point it feels so awkward and exaggerated. He behaved badly with teacher and he hates everyone coming close to Minato. Shin in ss1 was my fav but Shin in ss2 , idk him, it's not him at all.
Then there's the "selective memory loss trope" when all the logics went home. Where's Shin's phone? Why Shin is living with "a kind uncle" who keeps visiting him at the hosiptal? They have the same logical problem with Jack Frost and Minato did the same thing as Fumiya - hiding the truth no matter what and made others to help him hide it. He thinks it's good for Shin bc Shin may feel weird to forget his bf but he didn't think about what if Shin knows he is the only one who doesn't know anything. Well, adding selective memory loss trope is obsolete, unlogical, and unneccessary here. We know Shin will finally retrieve his memory but at what cost.
Overall, it's a cute show, but that is it. So much potential is wasted due to weak writing and a repetitive plot.
