OffGun magic is eternal
If you are looking for realistic yet fun drama this is for you. The trainee is going to resonate so much with you if you have ever interned or worked in your life. Some moments even hit home and makes you tear up a bit. The production is high quality for this one with subtle lessons to the viewer. Its wonderfully written except a tiny flaw and that is Bahmee and her development in emotional phase. Professionally her growth wad perfect. Pah is a great character for someone like me who came from a small town and studied in an average college and yet har big dreams. He made me cry with his insecurities. Loved Pie because we all want to be her. Hard working and a great friend.
But all my heart goes out to Jane and Ryan. Ryan for being cute and shy yet so assertive when it comes to sharing his feelings and incredibly mature for his age. He is a kind soul and doesnt hold back his feelings. Gun did an incredible job of playing the innocent yet resilient young trainee. His is very convincing and we cry and laugh with Ryan.
Jane steals the show though. Off as hot, strict mentor wad everything. He is bit harsh and high strung on outside but he is an incredible mentor. He takes responsibilities, allow his mentees to learn, give him chances and guide them right. He is all about tough love or in Ryan's case just love. Watching them fall in love was beautifully and made me giggle and kick my feet in air after a long while. Their slow burn wad hotter than lava tbh. JaneRyan burned us all with that scorching chemistry and that's ever green offgun magic for you.
One of the better 2024 BLs. Highly recommend.

Had potential but ended up average
I really enjoyed the first six episodes, the slow burn was great but after it started to concentrate on the second pair, it became a big disappointment for me. The screentime belonged to Ba-Mhee and her "love interests" while JaneRyan barely spent any time together and if they did, they were jealous, argued, Jane was moody... they had some cute moments but it really wasn't enough after so many eps. It got better in ep 11 but ep 12 was disappointing again as they did the time skip, Jane disappeared for five whole years to study and didn't contact Ryan at all which made him think that he lost interest and his selfish excuse that he wouldn't be able to control himself and stay in Hong Kong... man, Ryan knew nothing about you. He could be worried sick, feel abandoned, rejected, heartbroken and you just can't at least text him without seeing his face... when Anin and Pin can send letters to each other in the age without phones, you can lift up the phone and send him some lovely message so he wouldn't feel worried. It'd be realistic if Ryan found someone else and Jane realized that Ryan was not there to wait for him for those years without getting any texts from him. And then the house hunting being their online chat... I liked it but giving them a scene where they found a house and moved in together would be great. They really could get a special ep just like KhaiThird which would show the domestic moments which they could have without any interruptionsVond je deze recentie nuttig?
The most relate story ever
Good story and good acting, this is combination that I love the most. I love BL series, and love to see my fav couple being sweet on screen, but as writer and someone with background in filmmaking, I love well writing stories the most. Honestly it so hard to find a BL series with a good story or well-written script. I feel so lucky to find this series. As someone who work in the field, I find it sooo relatable to me, both in Ryan point of view and Jane point Of view. I been a trainee before and eventually a mentor too. I was so surprised to see something new from Off Gun. This is so different from their past series and I love that they still offer fresh character. Jane and Ryan characters develop in the most natural way, I love it so much. It been my attention to how the writer put effort to side character to grow. All the trainee characters in this series is so relatable. My most fav sequence is probably in episode 6 when Jane asks Ryan why he sulking. Ohh how I love the conversation, it such as good dialog. I hope in the future a creator will put a lot of attention on character and story more than just "Pairing".Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Great show - don’t be fooled by negative reviews ?
I’m honestly not sure why people are rating it so low, some are valid and constructive whilst others just seem to give it a low rating for the sake of hate.Either way, despite only being one episode in, I kind tell this is gonna be a show I’ll like to watch.
It’s fun, entertaining- the comedy writing is super funny, the cinematography/producing/directing is of a high quality, and the acting is on point. The plot is also very interesting/intriguing. For one, because it’s relatable, and two, because it’s going to be interesting to see what the finale is going to be like and how it’s going to turn out that way (most significant to me, personally being, how do Jane & Ryan get together and what kinds of struggles they’ll meet along the way).
If anything, know that OffGun has never had a bad series and takes extra consideration into each show they choose, so it’s likely it’ll be enjoyable at least to a good extent, if you’re wary of that.
The one constructive criticism I’ve really seen is of the volume of the music, esp in comparison to the talking volume - which could be easily fixed (it is only one ep so far so don’t worry that much). <- Personally, I was so invested that I didn’t pay attention to that at first. Also I trust that some of the worries about the substance of other characters or the uniqueness of the plot in general, will be fixed as the plot develops :)
Either way, highly recommended watching & seeing for yourself how you feel about it - please don’t go in with preconceived notions as a lot of good effort was put into making it 🙏
Thank you! 😊

A beautiful watch!! You're in for a ride! :D
Once again, OffGun has an entirely new dynamic which is different from that in their previous shows, which while expected (because duh, it's OG), is still a beautiful surprise and keeps you thrilled because even as a fan who has watched all of their shows, you don't know what to expect from them! And the story is original so you're going to go in having no idea how it's going to unfold and you won't have to worry about coming across spoilers. The production is beautiful. I'm not normal about the color grading in particular, it's too pretty. The plot turnt out to be more fun than I expected. The humour is just right and I already LOVE the supporting characters as well, especially Baimon and Pun :D Judy is just damn!! Looking forward to see JudyBahmee's (the side CP) chemistry!
Ryan is a very relatable character and I was actually worried for him. But that's okay, he'll be fine :') I want to keep him in my pocket sooooo bad. And I was slightly worried if Jane was going to be mean just for the sake of it but no, he is an actually reasonable guy. His aura>>>>>> Eerytime he appears on screen, I melt alright! Mind you, only the first episode has dropped. I doubt if I'm ready for the rest :0
Overall, as a fan, my heart is very happy. Let me tell you, waiting for one week is pure torture.

Easy to watch series, not only focused on BL
You can laugh, suffer and then laugh again with this series. It was amazing I had a great time watching it, also because the things happening to the interns were relatable. The story wasn't a 10/10 but overall it was entertaining and easy to watch. The cast did a great job portraying the characters and I loved to see how they grew up and got development throughout the episodes.
I know OffGun didn't have the screentime many were expecting, but this series really deserve an opportunity.

I'm not talented.. but I'll try
I may have misjudged this show based on the trailer and the fact that only Off and Gun are listed as the leads, but make no mistake, none of that took away from how much I loved it.I understand this may not be a common sentiment, but I genuinely loved this show. I don't need complex writing that's itching to create conflicts, or a plot that's completely out of the ordinary to enjoy a drama, sometimes I'm happy with a basic story with good emotional depth.
A tight story that's character driven, yes please!
And though I got a little fussy that Off and Gun, despite being billed as the leads, didn't have as much screentime as I expected them to, after a while I didn't think it was a bad thing. Sure, I'm still allowed to be mad that it was marketed one way and we got like a third of what they promised, but the fact that all the other characters got their time to shine is a good thing. I got to understand them better, I felt some of their stories and experiences on a personal level, I witnessed good character growth, not just for the support characters. The fact that Ryan and Jane also had time to grow into themselves, follow their dreams and figure out what they wanted, I think they handled that extremely well.
For what it's worth, even with the limited screentime, the Off Gun chemistry was amazing.
But, despite all my praise, I did find myself dissapointed with some things they did, actually one thing. The Tae - Ba Mhee - Judy love triangle.
*Sigh*
Not all growth is personal or work related, it can be romantic, but did it have to be this way? I don't think so.
All that push and pull, the kiss and the breakup, the tears and the arguments, it wasn't worth the eventual turn this triangle took. This is the one thing that genuinely frustrated me, all I could do was watch and rant.
Most of my review stems from the fact that this was a very personally touching story for me, and though you may not have experienced the same watching it, or though you may not have the same feelings watching it, I can say that this is worth a try.
Sometimes getting invested like I did is nice though, you may discover depths that even the creators didn't think about when making the show, and that's kind of wonderful ♡

THE TRAINEE IS A MUST WATCH
The Trainee Series is the perfect slow burn BL. It is different from other BLs cause it has no physical interaction in first two episodes. I love the way they show that Jane is worried about the interns and he maintains his strictness. Ryan is a huge relatable character. Plus they also focus on other characters and the friendships!!!Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
