Sanosuke finally lets out his rage and anger at having lost several members of the Shinsengumi; Hijikata decides to await for Kondo-san's return. Saito questions Ito-dono about why he came out unscathed, to which he explains the 'charm' that Katsura Kogoro had given him in exchange for a feigned alliance, which reveals that Kamigiri Daisaku was the spy. Kondo-san, who overhears the conversation, pulls aside Daisaku and asks him to run away, having known for a long while that he was the spy. Hijikata informs Kyujuro about this and asks him to find and kill Daisaku. A heartbroken and confused Kyujuro recalls the words of Serizawa-San, Yamanami-san and Sakamoto-san, deciding to follow his heart. At the Gion Festival, Daisaku arrives as promised, and they spent time together, at the end of which Kyujuro pulls him away, telling him about his plan to run away together. He doesn't ask Daisaku any questions, shocking him and leaves him wondering if he was dreaming. Daisaku pulls away and challenges Kyujuro to a duel to death. Kyujuro throws down his sword, realizing that Daisaku is lying. He tells him that his own heart would die if he were to cut Daisaku down. The fireworks end, and Daisaku tells Kyujuro that someone was waiting for him ahead and that he couldn't accompany him as they both would be pursued, leaving them both heartbroken. Kyujuro flees in tears, and Katsura Kogoro visits a lone Daisaku at the spot. A letter arrives for Nanumosuke and Shinnojo-sama, where Kyujuro mentions that he was leaving for the foreign lands, but both of them are unworried as they were sure to meet somehow as long as they were alive. The remaining Shinsengumi members realise that Kyujuro has departed for good, as he will never be able to kill his true friend; they wonder what lies ahead for them, with Yamanami-san's belongings watching over them. Sakamoto Ryoma, whom Daisaku had entrusted Kyujuro to, prepares for a far-off journey with Kyujuro; he asks Kyujuro if he is upset as he cannot bid farewell to his friends. Kyujuro looks back and replies that no goodbyes were necessary, as his one true sincerity was enough. Daisaku, who now views the falling cherry blossoms with the hope that new ones will bloom and flourish, narrates that this true feeling of sincerity will bloom forever as Kyujuro runs off to join Sakamoto Ryoma.
