WORTH THE WAIT!
I Hear The Sunspot and I am in love with it. This is probably one of the most BL mangas that I have heard of ever since I started to delve into the world of BL mangas but the adaptation just came in this year and I am not disappoint. Honestly speaking, I will go ahead and say that this is one of the bests this year for so many damn good reasons. The story follows two kids. One of Taichi who has divorced parents and is working two jobs to earn his keep. He is living with his loving grandfather since none of his parents wanted him despite of that, he is a fucking ray of sunshine and I would probably want to be with someone like him for the rest of my life. Seriously, he is so pure, innocent, lovely, understanding, open, kind, and so many more good adjectives that there is. I really love this character so much that I would marry him just like a hamburger steak. He is also very hungry. I mean, he uses so much energy to give other people and I feel like he deserves so much more love than he is getting. Luckily, he met another kid named Kohei who is hard of hearing. Taichi became his notetaker since he is having difficulties hearing and what he offers him is amazing food that his mother prepared. It is a symbiotic relationship to say the least but he soon developed feelings for Taichi. Honestly speaking, who wouldn’t? Taichi is such a good-hearted boy and we have seen this multiple times in the show but the scene where he protected Kohei from Miho who did not really have bad intentions but somehow romanticized the situation of Kohei. It must have been hard for him to be that popular and to slowly lose his hearing. It must have been hard and what made me love him and Taichi more is how they are empathizing with other by respecting each other’s decision as much as possible. It is such a wholesome kind of relationship that only one can dream of. The love story of the characters may not have happened immediately and I really understood why. I think the way that Taichi reacted to the confession was so sincere and he may not have felt it in that way before but the slow burn really worked with these two because the love story aspect did not feel forced at all and they are having a story of their own. The individual storylines that these characters had focused on their growth and the future. This is why the confession in the last episode where Taichi admitted that he is also in love with him just made me smile the most. These are characters who struggled with admitting who they love because of different reasons but it all boiled down to how they really felt and that is just a romantic scene without forcing it to be. It is just their emotions and what they really feel at that time. It is just really them at that moment and that is just lovely. I also want to give flowers to Kobayashi Toranosuke and Nakazawa Motoki who played Taichi and Kohei, respectively. These are very young actors but the performances that they gave were outstanding. I will have to admit that Kobayashi Toranosuke really captivated me with his performance. The range that this young actor has and how expressive his face is – is just phenomenal. I was so impressed, amazed, and flabbergasted with his performance. He is portraying these external emotions and have good inner monologues too. He is really good. We also have an impressive supporting cast. Actually, the writing in this show is impeccable from start to finish because they just really let the characters have their moments without forcing us to like one but instead made us fall in love with both of them while making sure that all of the supporting characters have their own stories or lives as well. It is such good writing and directing that made it all work. Everyone in this show did an amazing job and this is worth the wait.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
mudaram vidas

A Beautiful Continuation of their Story
The word 'Beautiful' perfectly encapsulates this series. The story, the sounds, whether a summer or a rainy day, the characters, and the people in their lives all come together to make it a beautiful and comforting watch. This series adapts the story from the manga and movie into something unique. The world of two beautiful souls who have been neglected in different ways; they meet and form a beautiful connection. While this version is familiar, several changes have already improved the overall story. My expectations are high.
A bonus is that I'm already in love with the actors' interpretations of these roles and look forward to watching their chemistry unfold. I definitely recommend this one!

Love this but one thing I do have to say about it
It is such a good drama I truly love the storyline and how they work together but I wish there was more to it. I loved it so much I need more of this type of storyline. Anyone know of bl stories/shows that are like this one? I truly love it and hope to have more of them together or atleast find a show with a similar plot/storyline.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

It's not a BL, it's a pre-relationship story, but it's a good story worth a one time watch
I wouldn't recommend it as a BL, I classify it as pre-BL because they did not actually move beyond being friends until the last few minutes of the show, not even through anything being implied or in subtext, as intended in Cn BLs. They were actually, genuinely just friends for 12 episodes then they confessed and it ended. Still, I would recommend it as a one time watch for anyone who likes a well written story tackling something different in a life drama series.I had my hope for episode 11, however the ending was just okay. It's another J (not really BL) that I can't give a 10, not even a 9 really, just an 8, and basically just because it was a good production, well written with an interesting story and good acting, but I can't rate it a 10 because it wasn't actually a BL and that's a false lead I don't appreciate.
GOOD:
- Acting
- Casting
- Production Value
- OST
- Writing
- Pacing
BAD:
- It's in the wrong genre, this is not a BL. If you watch it with the wrong expectations, you'll be disappointed, if you watch it as a story about a disability with two guys who end up admitting their feelings for each other in the last 5 minutes of the show, you'll be better prepared.
- Feels like false advertising.
There is no UGLY in this, I don't regret watching it.
HIGHLIGHT:
- Kobayashi Toranosuke, quite a gem of an actor.
---
Side Note:
From my personal perspective a 'BL' like this -with no actual BL- is made for two reasons-
1. New actors need a show in which they can depict their acting range so they can get better and more main roles in the future
2. They need a show that will make them popular and well known, fast
A BL series these days is the fastest track to achieve that for young male actors, however the downside of this is usually that the actors don't want to do BL or be associated with it long term, so the show barely scrapes by being a BL at all, just toes the line, as it were, which is what has happened here. Another example of this was Star Struck (except that show was not well written at all). I could be wrong, but when I see a good production like this with 'BL' slapped on it when there is basically no BL in it at all, there is no other explanation I can think of. The people behind it are just trying to jump on the fast track BL band wagon. Which, blah.
Even so, as a standalone show it was entertaining and I am glad to have discovered Kobayashi as an actor, it's the first time I've found a Japanese actor likable, talented and attractive since Kenichi Matsuyama so many years ago. I will move on from this very quickly though. It failed to leave a lasting impression. They had one shot in the final ep to have an emotional impact on the BL viewers in ep 12, but even the hug after the confession didn't land well at all.
If they make a sequel they might redeem the first season. Here's hoping.
8/10

I see potential..
This is one of the very few dramas I've found interesting from the beginning. Taichi is energetic and Kohei is calm and put together, I think they are gonna have a great chemistry in the future. I haven't read the manga but the first episode made my expectations high. One thing I didn't like about Japanese bl's were they didn't know how to put makeup on men! They most of the time looks bare faced but here, both the makeup and lighting was better.
Still, can't say much, will keep editing in the future.

utterly adorable, a must watch for sure
After reading the manga, watching the movie, and now finally this series-- can I say just how much I adore this beautiful slow burn? The story follows Taichi-- a naturally loud and honest guy who often gets himself into fights with his blunt words and tendency to talk with his fists. He quite literally slides into Kouheis world one day, an anti-confrontational loner who is hard of hearing, and seemingly hard to approach. Taichi however has no such difficulty getting close to him, and they become fond of eachother almost immediately.
You immediately fall in love with both of the MCs, the chemistry between them is so well done, and the flow of their relationship has such a natural feel. The actors themselves are adorable, they both do an amazing with their characters.
Production is good too, unlike a lot of manga adaptations, this drama doesn't have corny transition sounds or effects, yet they still stay incredibly cannon to the manga, and near identical to the movie.
My ONLY qualm with this drama is that it felt a bit rushed at the end, though we did finally get our long awaited happy ending, it felt almost as lacking as the open ending from the movie. I wanted to finally get to see them interact like lovers, even without a kiss is fine, but some chemistry at the end to show the shift between friends and lovers would have been perfect.
Overall, absolutely lovely, definitely recommend the watch.
