2022: i thought, and i was wrong...
Dramas I watched in 2022. Big dreams ending in sad failures. I had so many plans to watch so many great dramas, and now it is already the end of October and I have only watched half of what I watched last year! Oh, the shame. Time to binge and avoid all of reality!

6. Bulgasal: Immortal Souls
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
May 16-17, 2022
The amount of thought put into this plot was honestly just amazing. Every single part of it was enthralling and felt SO unique--not just uniquely done, but also something original and in a category of its own. I absolutely binged the entire thing without sleeping; I just wanted to solve the puzzle! Unfortunately, despite all that, I didn't give it a 10/10 because I felt like the conclusion could have been a TOUCH better. But the overall journey was so incredible (and even inspiring for my own works of fiction), that the small final note of*I wish there was a bit more*is totally forgiven in hindsight.
Trust me: you will not be disappointed. It's just... wow, what a story. And the acting was phenomenal to be able to pull it off like it did. Just a straight up entertaining watch that, in my opinion, is highly underappreciated!

Hard to become invested in characters due to the trust issues from everyone being killed off. Just a very emotional and hard to watch show, but really good—just super dark. BUT it's so good!! Just SO dark! I find it impossible to binge-watch. But it's really good!!

Ending was fine, but the 2nd love story was weird, and it felt unnecessary to end the way it did. And I also didn't understand how the 1st love story ended up. (SORTA VAGUE SPOILERS) Did they go back and forth to Switzerland? Like.. what? Did they live there? or just for certain periods of time? I really dont get the ending, man. Unfortunate because otherwise it was a pretty dang good drama.

- Cute cat. Cute girl. Terrible CGI cat lol
- Same date: episode 11/22
- Okay, thankfully the CGI cat is not around lots (hallelujah). FL is just as cute as a button. I like her. Normally I'm not into physically weaker FLs but she's somehow charmed me with her positivity and straightforwardness (me and every guy in the drama). She's not the sharpest tool in the shed, but honestly, no one really is in this drama. The plot is very simple. Everything is extra fluffy, so I'm not really mad the plot for the non-romance stuff seems to be pretty relaxed and simple to follow. MLs are fun to look at, I personally thing the 2nd ML is just an absolute doll. But I never stray from the main ML normally, even if they show literally no emotion (I root for the characters that obviously want to be together. I can't root for someone who's feelings are one sided). Hoping it keeps up the same energy and doesn't all of the sudden get super dark and complicated (fingers crossed).
- Oct 27, 2022: finished
- I totally started it over like two days ago and... scratch everything but for the FL being adorable and the plot being relatively fluffy and simple and the HORRIBLE CGI cat (seriously that cat looks terrible). I really liked the FL despite her flaws, but the acting was pretty atrocious from everyone else at times, and man, did I want to sleep through it after episode 16. But I got through it, and it was meh overall. I definitely have a huge crush on the FL actress, she's gorgeous so at least there is that. All and all, it did keep the same energy mostly; just sometimes got a bit boring or lack luster with some of the plot wrap ups. I give it a 6/10 (maybe even a 6.5 solely for the FL).

18. Monstar
Korean Drama - 2013, 12 episodes
Oct 29, 2022
I really loved the FL. She was just so cute and I rooted so hard for the ML. Everyone was just as cute as a button. However, it felt like it was set up to be a much longer series and thus we didn't get complete satisfaction out of it for all those interesting subplots etc. They seemed to barely even wrap most of them up; leaving a lot of questions and unclear endings for many. Unfortunate, but without those nicely wrapped up endings, it all feels random and like there was no real thought or reason in the things the characters were doing. Nonetheless, it was super cute imo and still worth the watch. It's refreshing seeing the ML act like a real teen boy (despite his idol status) who was confused about all of his big feelings and conflicting thoughts and acting out in uncertainty like most kids do when finding love for the first time. It just felt wholesome and innocent all throughout the series. Overall thought: CUTE. -
19. Flower Boy Next Door
Korean Drama - 2013, 16 episodes
Oct 30 - Nov 1 2022
Very cute, somewhat relatable, and a bit frustrating. I don't like how the male leads viewed FL as something to fix. Acceptance and support shouldn't include needing someone to change to fit you and your lifestyle. Love is such a wonderful thing, and I think they almost got there, but just missed the nail when they made FL into an object without taking into consideration her own feelings on things.
Unless your help is wanted and they explicitly tell you so, it's not okay to force someone to experience their trauma. Exposure therapy doesn't work that way.
But I like how different the ML was and enjoyed watching them grow and learn together as a couple. And the second love pairing was also so sweet and cute to watch. It would have been cool to see where ML's friend and brother ended up, too. -

LOVED the supporting cast. They were all so cute and exactly that--supporting of FL. It was so refreshing to see the mother-in-law and family-in-law all really love and respect FL. Adorable. Wasn't a huge fan of ML but the rest of the cast made it bearable.

Overall thoughts on the whole series: I really enjoyed the friendships with FL (especially 2FL, she was the best!), and I really liked FL. ML was a bit too stoic, especially towards the end, but he had his extremely cute moments! Thankfully, FL flawlessly carried the cuteness and romance to the point where I only clued in that ML was too stoic by the literal end (like last few episodes lol). Speaking of the end, tf was that? Like hoooow? I have questions that are unanswered permanently and I don't particularly enjoy that. But overall, cute and easy watch. (I did, however, FF through some stuff that FL wasn't in--the non-romance plot was interesting, but it got dull every once in awhile imo.) Still, it wasn't a bad time at all. OH, and I really liked some of the messages and lessons they taught along the way... The relationships seemed honestly rather healthy compared to a lot of dramas. A lot of it was surprisingly refreshing to see (for ex: the relationship between FL and 2FL, I ADORED how trusting and supportive they were of each other despite the potential for a frenemy or paranoid type of thing!). -
23. Witch's Romance
Korean Drama - 2014, 16 episodes
Nov-8-9th 2022
Super adorable couples. I loved a lot about this drama. The chemistry was off the charts, ML was so versatile from adorable to sexy, and FL did a wonderful job in her role. She's such a beautiful lady and so cute! One thing I think I would have loved to have seen, was the original case solving vibe throughout the series (like how FL was in danger and there was a bit of a thrill to it). I feel like since that's how it started off, it would have been nice to keep that initial impression throughout the series. Oh well, still a very good drama! -

What a treat! I was hooked from beginning to end. As a writer myself, the idea of a plot hole coming back to haunt an author this much is genuinely hilarious and entertaining to me. I'm in stitches about it... it's genius! On top of that, the chemistry between the leads was so very tangible; you could practically feel and touch the electricity between them.
I'm honestly so shook at the comments, but perhaps it's because I didn't read the webtoon it was based off of. I just feel like the acting and plot was so entertaining, fun, and genuinely emotional that I can't give it lower than a 10/10 in my eyes. It's not that I'm not aware of some of the weaker points (the FL occasionally irritating me to death from how slow her reactions were for example, or perhaps wanting a bit more screen time and investment with side characters), it's just because those weaker points clearly weren't actually necessary or essential to having a wonderful plot. And can we acknowledge how adorable the leads were?? Loved it.

25. Honey, Don't Run Away
Chinese Drama - 2020, 12 episodes
1-3 ep (Nov12)
Nov 13: finishedThis is so good, but the ML is so angsty and secretive. I love 2nd ML so much oml. But I don't dislike the ML either, i just wish he would be honest so they could all figure out a solution together. Hell, even 2ndML would prefer that. I LOVED the crime part about it, i think their take on solving the puzzle of crime is really unique in a way. And i really loved the three leads friendship, totally endearing. The few negatives i think are (1) FL's emotions after a death feels lacking. Wait, i think thats basically it. It's lower budget but idc, i really loved it. The characters are all so sweet and lovely, and the way the stories all intertwine is so well thought out.
Flaw: season 2 is nothing like season 1 and I am BIG sad about it.

26. F4 Thailand: Boys Over Flowers
Thai Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
nov 13-Nov 14 2022
This was a really great version of BOF... but the lack of kisses was straight up excruciating! Besides that, it was a very sweet (and as always, frustrating) show that had its own unique touch that set it apart from the other adaptions. I just love this story so much. Also literally every male lead was so attractive i could die and the female leads were equally as beautiful. Such a great cast!
Also, I want to add, this version gave me a better understanding of the characters. I aways felt perplexed with some characters' decisions in the other versions, but I find this one made their reasoning unmissable and relatable. I really enjoyed that part--the just overall *knowing* what people are thinking rather than getting frustrated and annoyed at them for not explaining it properly and just moving on with the story. 2ML was a blessing. I typically get SUPER annoyed with his character (because in the other versions it felt unclear as to why he did things and even his selfless acts seemed loaded with expectations on the FL), but in this version I LOVED him. He was hands down the bestest friend to both ML and FL and so sweet and earnest. You didn't have to question where his loyalty was or what his end goals were--even when he tried to be mysterious or straight up lie about it, I just trusted the dude throughout the whole thing.... and he was just... So. Freaking. Attractive. -
27. A Korean Odyssey
Korean Drama - 2017, 20 episodes
Sep 27-30 (ep 1-17)
Nov 30, 2022Ok, hear me out..Im about to severely hate on this drama AND obsess over it. 1st, the hate: I cant count the unresolved plots on my hands--Id need a lot more fingers to do so. We're set up with big ideas and great episodic plots, but very little do we see them turn into results that feel satisfying right to the bone. When that resolve isn't completely missing, it's usually a huge flop. On top of that, the FL is simply used as a pawn. She is irritatingly docile, indecisive, a damsel in distress, and used as an object to make ML (and others) strong. Oh, the CGI during the last, most climatic fight scene is abso-freaking-lutely HORRENDOUS!
Despite all that, there is 1 thing that saves it all: friendship.
I dont have enough heart to hold all the love I have for the characters. And I mean ALL of them. The ML alone could hold my heart prisoner and never let it go. He was gorgeous! From the personality, acting, chemistry, backstory, and the dvlpmnt..Im in awe and now have some v high romance standards. But then to be able to fall so in love with the others, too?! Wow. Even the ones who were deemed to be antagonistic. The devil king made me laugh until I cried, Richie made my heart swell 3 times bigger, the dog girl made me trust, winter boy/his sister made me soft, PK made me hope, water king made me waver, butler dude made me loyal, and priestess girl made me wish. And so many more moments/characters on top of them made this drama for what it is: beautiful. The journey is simply beautiful. The slice of life within the crazy was so stunning it overwrites all the wrongs; all the flaws; all the missing pieces.
I had a hard time with the last 3 eps because I didnt want it to end. I didnt want a conclusion. This isnt a drama you watch to finish--to get through in order to enjoy the destination. This is a drama you watch for the journey and the amazing friendships we see between.

If you liked Psychopath Diary, you'll certainly enjoy this, as well.
My god. The ACTING CHOPS ON THESE PEOPLE. It would be one thing if they were all static characters, but so many of these characters were very diverse or changed to *become* more diverse--meaning, a lot of them had to act out like ... two or more different roles all while in the same character. And switch between those roles at what felt like a drop of a hat sometimes. And they did absolutely amazingly, given how they made these switches flow so well and believably. Wow. The speed they could go from a serious moment to a comedic, or vice-versa (or other emotions completely). I am completely blown away by this series. And another reason why you should watch this is for the writing, of course. It was incredible. Suspenseful and a lot of intelligent thought went into it to give us a very fun, deadly, and emotional chess/cat and mouse game. On top of everything, it was also so funny and adorable at times I had tears. The bromances made me swoon, I swear. I honestly just came to love (or hate) all of the characters. Brilliant!
I have no clue how anyone can rate it lower than a 9. I myself gave it a 10/10 and it feels like a very justified 10 lol. Before you let the weirdly negative reviews sway you, I dare you to try it out. -
29. You Are My Spring
Korean Drama - 2021, 16 episodes
May 26th-30th 2022 -- It’s cute and I like the murder mystery (especially cute 2nd ml). But the 1st ml frustrated me—I think he was unnecessarily mean to fl. I hope the murder mystery connects to the romance.
Finished: Dec 17, 2022 -- i liked the psychology but the murder mystery part confused me and I still don't really know what happened. The main relationship was a bit too sweet or awkward or something, but I enjoyed the other relationships around them a lot. -
30. Mad for Each Other
Korean Drama - 2021, 13 episodes
april 26 2021 - Dec 18, 2022
I remember enjoying it a lot. But I stopped watching because I had to wait for the last two episodes to come out and then I had the hardest time getting back into it. I remember being so hooked, too, but i guess rewatching it wasn't the same. It was unenjoyable to finish it when I finally forced myself to. But man, I loved the characters and would laugh so hard when I watched it the first time around. I unfortunately really ruined it for myself. I decided to keep the rating I gave it when I first started to watch it though, because I think it's probably more accurate than the disinterest that fell on me. -

32. Buitengewoon Jij
Korean Drama - 2019, 32 episodes
dec 24, 2022 - dec 27 2022
First: it was so fluffy and adorable, I could have just died watching Haru and FL. Too cute and wholesome. My heart ached.
Second, and most important I think, this made me so anxious in the best way possible as a writer. I couldn't help but to imagine my own characters trying to fight their fate I've created for them. Omg i would feel just horrible! But it was so fun to think about. It was great.
I didn't give it a 10/10 however, because I felt like it didn't wrap up everything too well. In fact, it felt like there was a lot missing. But I'm not really mad at the ending either (despite how the entire reason for the original plot seems to have been thrown under the bus lol), so I didn't make it take off too much since the overall experience was a really great one (seriously, so, so, SO cute!).
