41. The Long Way Home
Korean Movie - 2015
Completed: May, 18
Streaming: Watchasian [720p]
Thoughts: After watching the drama Circle with Yeo Jin Goo, I wanted something else with him without the huge commitment of starting another drama. This seemed like an interesting movie and I kept laughing until the end, where I ended up crying. Once again I loved the performance of Yeo Jin Goo, it's impressive how at 17 he delivers such an impressive performance on the same level of the veteran actor Sol Kyung Gu. Both did a fantastic work.

42. Hwayi: A Monster Boy
Korean Movie - 2013
Completed: May, 18
Streaming: Plex
Thoughts: This might be a simple premise, but it's extremely well delivered by impressive performances. Yeo Jin Goo, was just 15 at the time of filming, but he pefectly stepped up to the challenge of portraying a young teen that is filled with fear and anger for being raised by a group of despicable men that made him treat them as fathers. His co-lead and the lead of this group is Kim Yoon Seok, a veteran actor that easily brought to life a character that his despicable and unstable in many ways. Also impressive performances by many of the other support characters.

43. 1987: When The Day Comes
Korean Movie - 2017
Completed: May, 25
Streaming: Watchasian [720p]
Thoughts: Fantastic movie about those that fought for democracy in South Korea. At first, I was a bit confused by so many characters and not knowing who they were, I paused it and googled about the historical events and got completely situated in the story. The story of this movie was impressive and at the same time shocking, but I'm glad to be able to easily learn about how each country fought or is currently fighting for their democracy, and I can't help to think that we definitely take democracy for granted.

44. Smuggler
Korean Movie - 2023
Completed: May, 26
Streaming: Watchasian [1080p]
Thoughts: This movie reminded of another korean movie called The Thieves, but in this case the stars is a group of female divers that mainly harvest mollusks, but they also partake in small smuggling heists, until one day they are forced to get involved in a high-stake smuggling scheme of gold and diamonds. The story was well-written, focusing entirely on telling story from the point of view of the women and showcasing their strengths and smartness. The amazing twist at the end made this watch completely worth it and I'm excited for the possible second movie.

45. Pandora
Korean Movie - 2016
Completed: May, 27
Streaming: Netflix
Thoughts: Honestly, I kept debating on how I would rate this movie. The HBO mini-series Chernobyl is one of my all time favorite stories and in comparison to this movie, it felt like the movie lacked a lot in a proper representation on the effects to high amounts of radiation and that really pissed me off. The representation of the effects of radiation were extremely simplistic into vomiting blood and some bad makeup that attempted to show burned skin, when in fact the true effects of radiation on 500 levels should have been way gruesome. My rating was entirely based on the story of the main character played by Kim Nam Gil, his tragic ending could have been avoided multiple times, but he couldn't stay indifferent to those in suffering and ended up sacrificing himself to save others and other characters like those that tried to warn the president for imminent disaster and those that tried their best to safe others.

51. She's Dead
Korean Movie - 2024
Completed: August, 10
Streaming: Watchasian [1080p]
Thoughts: An interesting movie, with a predictable twist. It was well acted and well written too, it wasn't anything extraordinary and I actually found it weird for Shin Hye Sun to pick such a similar story from her previous movie Target, the only thing that changes is the type of character that she is playing, where in one case she is the victim, the other she is the psychopathic liar. Anyways, not a bad movie and I like how this reminds the viewers to be mindful when posting their lives online, because whatever we share it's easily trackable.

52. Wonderland
Korean Movie - 2024
Completed: August, 10
Streaming: Netflix
Thoughts: Contrary to popular opinion, I actually loved this movie. Sure, it has its flaws, but it's a solid sci-fi story, with stunning cinematography and outstanding acting. I found the individual stories touching and well-developed, but the explanation of how the "software" worked fell short. It was unsettling that a girlfriend could save her boyfriend's memories in a virtual version of him without is consent. Where is the right of consent as an individual? This aspect definitely needed way more clarification. Still, I was captivated by the individual stories and the cinematography (set design and the gorgeous use of color). On a plus side, we got a delightful duet between Suzy and Park Bo Gum, and their chemistry was amazing!

53. Tune in for Love
Korean Movie - 2019
Completed: August, 16
Streaming: Netflix
Thoughts: The highlight of this movie was it's simple story and the breath-taking chemistry between Kim Go Eun and Jung Hae In. Their performances brought the characters to life, making their journey through love, separation, and reunion feel incredibly relatable. This paired with the nostalgic 90s backdrop, makes the visuals feel charming and magical. The only flaw for me, isn't about the pacing, which is expected in a melodrama, but rather how they missed the mark on fully developing Jung Hae In’s character growth. There was an attempt, but it wasn't well developed and it completely missed the potential. Overall, it was a lovely watch that made me smile, and I hope both actors reunite as a couple in a future project.
