Korean BL - BL/Gay dramas and movies from South Korea
BL/Gay themes movies, dramas and short movies from South Korea.
For a comprehensive list of Asian BL containing the titles from this list + China (including Mainland China, Taiwan and Hong Kong), Japan and Thailand; see my huge list for Asian BL/Gay movies and dramas. (793 titles and counting.) Also see my separate lists for each country, my lists for Short movies/mini-dramas, BL for 2020+2021, and other lists.
List will only contain titles in which BL/Gay/Male Bi couples/characters/themes, have at least a somewhat prominent role.
***(Titles with (only) Trans characters; not included--a Trans woman who loves men is straight, not gay.
Crossdressing has nothing to do with gender identity so titles with cross-dressing guys who like guys; included.
Bodyswap is (reluctantly) included.
Bromance if there is an implication that it is/will go beyond friendship)***
Adding titles and comments every now and then.
Note; To make it simple; I'll just call BL, even if it would be more correct to say; stories about guys who are attracted to guys.
"Gay theme" and BL are two different things.
But as long as one can tell fantasy from reality--it's a convenient word.

108. To My Star
Korean Drama - 2021, 9 episodes
The two Korean mini-dramas released approximately at the same time--this one and "Wish You: Your Melody From My Heart"--have quite different ratings, with this one having a considerably higher one.
Which I don't quite get.
To me, they're equal in quality, so I've rated them the same, but in terms of likeability and entertainment value--this one loses.
It's well made, acting is good, there's nothing particularly WRONG with it--but I still didn't "feel" it. The short runtime, of course, makes it hard to achieve any real depth to the characters and story--but that's still not an excuse, when there are other mini-dramas that have managed to, even with episode counts and runtime less than this one has.
I'd say that my overall feeling was... underwhelmed. Slightly bored.
Yikes. This sounds bad... lol...
Which it isn't. I guess I just think it was very, very forgettable. Flat. -

110. To My Star: Making Film
Korean Special - 2021, 1 episode

111. To The Beautiful You
Korean Drama - 2012, 16 episodes
Not BL, based on a classic Japanese Shoujo-manga ("Hanazakari no Kimitachi he") but has a prominent point made of equality of emotions, which is rather beautiful considering the complete lack of connection to BL. Well worth a watch if one is fond of well made Shoujo. And the "gay" part (not really, yet still is) is utterly adorable!
I'm an old time fan of the manga and this Korean version is my fav. -

122. Where Your Eyes Linger
Korean Movie - 2020
Movie version of the mini-drama "Where Your Eyes Linger"--slightly altered in this alternate format. Both have their pros and cons, and both are worth watching. I prefer the movie version for the different vibe that the (very slight) changes brought.

Korean Movie - 2012

124. WISH YOU : Your Melody In My Heart
Korean Drama - 2020, 8 episodes
I wasn't very impressed with the latest Korean BL mini-dramas, but this was by far better than the much higher rated "To My Star".
The synopsis made me suspicious, since i expected something shallow "idoly", but it wasn't like that at all. A simple and straight-forward little love story that was quite adorable.
It's lacking in depth, and that's definitely because of the short runtime, but it makes up for it decently, with a beautiful score and OST, good acting and a nice production with many beautiful scenes and atmosphere.
Nothing I'll remember for a long time--but definitely not a waste of time.

125. WISH YOU: Your Melody From My Heart the Movie
Korean Movie - 2021
Compiled movie version of the mini-drama.
-
126. You Make Me Dance
Korean Drama - 2021, 8 episodes
Mini-drama.
Hmm. For some reason, I didn't like this. I enjoyed the other recent Korean mini dramas more, even though they were less qualitative... I'll give a decent rating because it's pretty well produced and there's nothing WRONG with it--it just didn't hit home with me. I get annoyed with unrealistic plot/relationship developments--and here, it's too much for me. Sure, when talking about BL--realistic stories are rare. But as long as it's built up and elaborated from the haphazard meeting/hook-up, it's fine. Especially if it's the sillier kind of BL.
But this isn't silly--so it becomes awkward. And the relationship dynamics are fuzzy and somehow... the characters keep their feelings and thoughts to themselves. There is no need to write it on the nose, but some kind of outreach, explanation, voicing out what takes place in their minds and hearts--is kind of crucial to make us believe what happens on the screen.
This doesn't.It's cute and all that... but it's flat. The characters are flat and the story is told in that shallow and "let's show a little bit of this and a little bit of that, screw the fluidity" kind of way.
Which is a pity, since the plot premise was kind of unique.Acting was fair, but not in any way exceptional.
Random cred; The far-from-acceptable dancing by the MC, was edited quite cleverly and smoothly and almost pulled off fooling an experienced and critical eye.
Tech work was quite nice with some extra lovely shots. And above all; Cred to South Korea for developing their BL, and managing to dig out a path of their own, with a distinct flavour that differs from the Japanese and Taiwanese productions, even though they have similarities.
