“Work Later, Drink Now” Review: Exhilarating, Heartbreaking And Fun

TVING has found massive success with “Work Later, Drink Now,” and here is a review of the drama and why it deserves the attention it has gotten.
When I say “Work Later, Drink Now” is one of the best kdramas I’ve seen in a while, I mean it. I am so upset at myself for not recognizing it sooner but thankfully I did, albeit a bit late.

I’ve been hearing people talk about “Work Later, Drink Now” a while back and I didn’t pay much attention to it, right now, there are many kdramas on the big channels that I must pay attention to and I nearly neglected this one. I am glad I ended up seeing it.

“Work Later, Drink Now” wrapped its run last month. I’ve binge-watched it and completed it in a day, its only 12 episodes and each episode is roughly 30 minutes so its a shorter format, which works wonders for the drama.

TVING has kicked 2021 with good dramas and honestly, thus far, they’ve released good dramas, this is arguably their best creation to date.

FYI, “Work Later, Drink Now” has found massive popularity in South Korea and contributed to TVING gaining mainstream attention, subscriptions to their service have seen a huge surge.
.. 》Initial impressions vs. final impressions《..

“Work Later, Drink Now” premiere didn’t honestly have the nicest introduction in my eyes, the drama almost romanticizes the idea of alcoholism and makes light of the heavy drinking problem the trio has, this felt a bit too on the nose at first, luckily, the drama picks up and tackles other interesting topics that go beyond what you’d expect from such a show.

“Work Later, Drink Now” is a life drama, its about many things and the drama manages to touch on many issues Koreans suffer from without it becoming too heartbreaking to watch, there is a mixture of happy and sad that is so well-balanced I was pleasantly surprised by that. It is not easy to achieve such balance but this drama does it with ease.
...》The plot《...
“Work Later, Drink Now” centers around a trio with different personalities who get together to drink at the end of a hectic day. The drama shows three women who live drastically different lifestyles getting together at the end of the day to share food and alcohol.
The drama also goes through each individual story and each one of them has a very complex story. Each character is crafted well and brought to life by the actors’ performances. At first, each character falls into an expected archetype that goes with such types of dramas. As the drama progresses, those same traits are properly explained, the characters are no longer 2D but 3D.
The drama doesn’t shy away from talking about an array of sensitive topics in Korean society such as suicide, LGBTQ+ rights, sexual harassment, sexual assault, mental health issues and more. But such topics don’t up consuming the drama to the point that it feels like they’re trying to deliver a message whilst forgetting about the core of the story. The drama remains fun and relatable.

One of the strengths of the drama is that past experiences are not only used as props for an episode to pad the run time, issues and happenings with the trio are explored throughout the drama’s run time and it was nice to see them incorporated beyond just a storyline for an episode.

...》Performances and chemistry《...

“Work Later, Drink Now” wouldn’t have worked this well if the cast wasn’t doing such an amazing job. They’re truly marvelous in their roles. The one that stood out the most was obviously Sunhwa.

I’ve seen her in dramas before but never like this, her performance here is one of the best performances by an actress this year, across the board and I’ve seen a lot of kdramas this year. At first, I hated her character, she was so annoying but the way she played her, she was simply stunning. She stole the spotlights many times.
Everyone else did a wonderful job, they truly did well with the casting this time.

The chemistry between the trio was great and their bond felt so real, I could see they got along pretty well with each other, the girls themselves said so too.

“Work Later, Drink Now” seasons 2 is getting discussed, and honestly, this is one of the very few kdramas I’d love to see return with a second season. It’s truly kdrama at it’s best. I hope kdrama creators watch this one to learn what works and what doesn’t.

Warm music amid rubbish ¤_¤

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol is a romantic comedy that follows the romance between a wealthy pianist (Go Ara) who loses everything after her father dies and a mysterious part-time worker (Lee Jae Wook).

Go Ara plays Goo Ra Ra. She is bright, full of life, and a bit naive. After her father suddenly passes away, she is left on her own as she tries to survive. She maintains a cheerful attitude despite her hardships, and she begins to connect with a man who steps in to help her.
Lee Jae Wook is Sun Woo Joon. He is a mysterious man with many part-time jobs that is a bit closed off and withdrawn. He gets caught up with Ra Ra and finds himself wanting to help her and to have her around.
We then have our second lead Cha Eun Seok (Kim Joo Heon). He’s a nice doctor who takes an interest in Ra Ra and also tries to help her out when he can. He has to compete with Joon for her affections though.

Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol comes from the writer of one of my favorite dramas, Shopping King Louie, and there are definitely some similarities in terms of the basic plot. Rather than the guy having to survive on his own, this time the girl is the wealthy one forced to survive with no money with the help of a kind man who takes her in.

She has a lovable personality too which helps those around her to like her and want to help her despite her high standards. Then throw in a bunch of fun supporting characters and a darker mystery on the side, and well, they sound almost like the same drama!

This one definitely does not execute everything near as well as Shopping King Louie though. Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol is a pretty straight-forward romantic comedy with a large helping of fluff that progressively gets more serious it goes.

The first half is pretty easy to watch with its bright characters and humorous story. While I do think everyone did well and the characters were fine, for me, Go Ara really carried this drama. She was delightful and so full of life. She lights up any scene she is in. Ra Ra can be a bit clueless at times, but she means well and is so kind. Her fun personality makes her enjoyable to watch.

The rest of the characters are also pretty good, and the interactions between them all are a strong point in the drama. This is the kind of show that relies on its characters and the humor rather than the strength of the plot.

The base plot of Ra Ra surviving on her own with the help of Joon is cute. It takes its time as it explores some of Ra Ra’s challenges as well as her budding romantic relationship with Joon. This duo wasn’t exactly riveting for me, but they did have plenty of sweet moments.

Then we have the second half of the drama. This is where the more serious side becomes more prominent as we deal with who Joon is, why he is so mysterious, and another more serious subplot. Surprisingly, a lot of this is actually resolved pretty quickly about midway through the drama.

And that’s where the problem comes in. Not much really happens after that. Ra Ra and Joon face some challenges, but as a whole, the plot really wanders around between various characters and small happenings. A lot of the charm from the first half of the drama was lost at this point. There is still plenty of humor, but the angst definitely goes up too.

I didn’t so much mind that, but I more so had issues with the overall execution of the angsty side of the drama. And in a rare happening for me, I do actually think this drama has a trash ending that I believe many people will really dislike.

So overall, Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol was decent enough. It’s pretty basic as a romantic-comedy that gets more angsty as it goes. It didn’t always feel like a lot was happening, but the story did progress and the characters were appealing to make it a good enough watch.

If you lose your mother, don't watch the movie because your heart will bleed a lot 《ಥ_ಥ》

First, it is among the most emotionally resonant films I have ever seen.. Every kid should watch this movie, and learn to respect. We can all relate because of the current "Me,me,me" generation. Overall there is nice lighting throughout which relate to the mood, and setting is nice. Actors did great and I can't find anything to change in this movie. Plot is about stereotypical spoiledish kid that gets embarrassed about her mother, but in the end she put those moments aside and realizes that her mother has cared for her and loved her unconditionally, so she shouldn't be embarrassed but proud. Although this movie is a melodrama it has some happy and funny parts as well. I'm sure no matter where you are from you will definitely enjoy this movie.

…an engaging personal drama that quietly opens a relevant dialogue with its audience

It’s safe to say that the equality movement has been a little slow on the uptake in certain Asian cultures. But that’s not to say that the status quo isn’t beginning to be nudged, with films such as I Don’t Fire Myself finding purchase in mainstream media.

Written and directed by Tae-gyeom LEE, the film follows the struggles of Jung-Eun (Da-in YOO from 2019’s The Snob), an employee of an electric provider, who is relegated to a small coastal subcontractor outside the city after her abusive male colleagues attempt to oust her from head office.

Once she arrives at the new outpost, where she finds herself to be the only female employee, Jung-eun faces a new wave of misogynistic and sexist challenges before one of her co-workers, Choong-ski (Jung-se OH of It’s Okay To Not Be Okay fame), who happens to be raising three daughters on his own while working numerous jobs, reluctantly takes her under his wing.

As a workplace drama, I Don’t Fire Myself is an effective insight into the abusive culture seen in Korea’s corporate world, but where the film really shines, is in its ability to showcase the psychological damage such a culture inflicts on its victims.

Making his directorial debut, Tae-gyeom shows remarkable sensitivity with his characters, instilling his protagonist with a fragile strength and insight that never indulges problematic narratives or victimhood. Da-in YOO’s portrayal of Jung-eun is beautifully realised, with the actor deftly embodying a vulnerability and desperate determination that adds a heartbreaking realism to her fleeting moments of self-loathing, alcohol abuse and her eventual lashing out at those manipulating her career path.

I Don’t Fire Myself isn’t exactly the perfect metaphor for the social issue it tackles, but it does effectively use its narrative to deliver an engaging personal drama that quietly opens a relevant dialogue with its audience.

In my personal opinion, the plot and setting of this film is too slow and monotonous. For the first hour even I felt sleepy while watching it. Apart from that, the plot is also a bit confusing at the start (or am I the slow one? LOL). If I don't force it (because of Oh Jung-se for sure), maybe I'll choose to drop off. However, in the second half of the hour, I started to feel the tension, the film also started to show its direction, although it wasn't extremely exciting either.

A light story that carries a lot of lessons and feelings

How to Steal a Dog is a heartwarming masterpiece that is full of positivity and lessons from beginning to end. Its a light-hearted film that is truly engaging and inspiring as well. The movie is built on a very simple storyline yet it never fails to impart a very valuable lesson through simple and interesting scenes. As a whole, its a family film. Its very light approach and very creative and dynamic story-telling techniques made the movie enjoyable to watch. Aside from that, the whole plot is not that complicated at all. Despite some tendencies of being predictable, the movie stood ground by its great and realistic ending. Indeed, the movie has a pinch in the heart. I also loved the characters in the movie especially the child characters. They were just amazing and so delightful to watch.

Weird but special

I thought this was a surprisingly good movie, better than I had envisaged. I did think beforehand why they would make a pipeline seem exciting, they should have named it something else, either way it was worth the watch.

I thought the actors and storywriters did an excellent job of the cast interactions, some of its drama, and some of it very humorous. I’m sure the story was a bit farfetched and headed into an odder direction with the bad guy’s goals being that of a mad scientist towards the final 30 minutes of the movie. It was a shame they knocked off one of the team, but I guess that’s what made the bad guy so evil.

It had some special effects. The oil running through the pipes wasn’t well done. The pipeline exploding in the hills of Korea was well done.

Many of those reviewing the movie clearly watched the movie because of Seo In Guk, one said “I wouldn’t be bored with him reading the entire phone directory”.

soft and funny

I hadn’t originally planned to watch Hello, Me!, but I was in the mood for something lighter, so I decided to give it a go. And I’m glad I did! This drama was so much fun! It’s lighthearted with so much comedy gold as well as a nice helping of heart. Count me as surprised!

You all know that I’m pretty particular with comedy and what I find genuinely funny. Well, this drama was exactly my comedic style. The humor is zany and fun, and it’s present in the bulk of the drama. I laughed so much! Seriously, this is the kind of comedy that I wish there was more it. It just leaves me feeling happy.

While not exactly old school, Hello, Me! does have a more classic feel to it in terms of overall tone. Of course, this was something I quite enjoyed, and it made it feel more refreshing compared to the style of dramas of the present day.

I loved the fantasy aspect with 17 year old Ha Ni meeting the 37 year old version and spending the entire drama together. That’s actually a pretty unique concept in Dramaland, and I really enjoyed it.

A major theme of the drama is the exploration of Ha Ni as an individual. She gets to see what she lost to time as well as what she has gained. That also gives her the opportunity to get support from her younger self and slowly regain her confidence.

These two bickered a lot, but they also cared for each other deeply. It was unique relationship for sure. It’s a lovely journey to see play out, and the drama is filled with wonderful positive messages about self-love.

We get a bit of romance too as Yoo Hyun falls for Ha Ni. It’s not really swoony, but it’s pretty cute with Yoo Hyun being a puppy with his devotion to Ha Ni as well as very supportive of her. I enjoyed watching this couple grow close and to see their relationship develop.

There’s a lot of fun to be had around Anthony too. His character was slightly annoying at first, but it didn’t take long before I found him hilarious. His personality in general gives way to a lot of jokes. Combine that with his interesting relationship with Ha Ni, and there were plenty of laughs to be had. The younger version of Anthony (Kim Song Woo) was also delightful in his very quirky way.

Another highlight is the fun relationship between Yoo Hyun and his father Han Ji Man (Yoon Joo Sang). Ji Man actually turns out to be the rare nice chaebol. These two have the best bickering chemistry which I thoroughly enjoyed. Ji Man really cares for his son though, and it was evident. I smiled a lot watching this duo.

There are many other funny and interesting supporting characters too. Anthony’s team is hilarious. Ha Ni’s co-worker and old friend Ji Eun (Kim Yoo Mi) had her own nice story arc to explore involving both her friendship with Ha Ni as well as with her husband (Ji Seung Hyun). Plus, there are lots of great other family members and co-workers. So many wonderful characters!

Since I liked all of the characters, this made every scene enjoyable. I definitely laughed a lot with all of the zany comedy and hilarious situations these people got into. The heart also came through too. There were definitely feels as several of the relationships were explored.

Even though I would consider this a feel good drama, it does have a few slightly more serious parts concerning some of the issues various characters are facing. The last quarter of the drama definitely gets more serious as many of these things come to a head and have to be addressed while also dealing with a villain and some corporate power shenanigans.

I personally didn’t feel like any of it was out of place, and it was all a natural progression of the story. I liked how they handled many of the issues, and there were plenty of warm fuzzies to be had between the various characters.

I would also recommend not taking the time travel aspect of this story too seriously. It mostly serves as a vehicle for getting the characters in the right place for fun and character exploration. The time travel stuff mostly happens quietly in the background until the end of the drama. You will find some plot loopholes involving this element, but I still thought it was well done and succeeded in delivering its overall message which was obviously what was most important in this drama.

Hello, Me! really was such a pleasant surprise. It brought me a lot of joy, and I laughed a lot. I came to like all of the characters and enjoyed their personal journeys of growth. There was a nice helping of heart to provide the feels too. I liked this drama more and more as it went, and it left me feeling very satisfied.

Once again a true story moving ♡

Another movie about a true story .. For me, real stories fascinate me and make me immersed in the events of the film ..
The truth was a very touching story, especially after hearing the stories of all the victims .. The film tells the truth about the factories and what the big companies try to hide and use all illegal methods to bury the truth ..
I was impressed by the acting of all the actors ... The most characteristic of the movie is the actors, who were so well known ... they embodied their roles so professionally that the viewer waited for each character's turn in the show ...
It's a really delicate issue that the movie attempts to tell the story very logically.
Away from the movie: Because of the silence of the victims about any error or mismanagement or anything, which makes the criminals progress more and more .. Despite the increase in control and the improvement of many companies and factories in their course. Their actions, however, are still breaches of laws and hidden secrets. .
If you are looking for a dramatic and influential movie that fights corruption, do not miss this movie ♡

Really it's a very touching story

oh-my-geum-bi-oh-ji-ho-and-heo-jung-eun-7
Oh My Geum Bi is a truly beautiful drama. I have to admit, I cried in every single episode. But it’s not always for the reasons you may be thinking. The drama is about much more than a sick little girl.

At it’s core, it depicts the relationship between a father and a daughter. It’s not an easy relationship by far. They bicker like crazy, but they also genuinely love each other, and the two go on such a moving journey of healing together.
And I was completely drawn into this relationship. The drama perfectly built up the conflicts and issues between the two and then delivered completely moving and beautiful moments where the characters experienced growth. These are the times I cried. Watching a conman and a lonely child learn to become father and daughter was so moving.
But Geum Bi doesn’t just change the life of her father. She changes the lives of everyone around her. She warms the heart of Kang Hee who is filled with hurt from her past. Geum Bi gives her the chance to love again.

I think the drama shined the most when it focused on Geum Bi and Hwi Chul’s relationship. Occasionally, it spent more time on some of the other relationships than I would have liked, but this was really a small thing. Everyone that comes into contact with Geum Bi has their lives changed, so I never tired of seeing people grow.

There’s also a very sweet romance between Hwi Chul and Kang Hee. It’s a minor subplot of the drama, but it delivers some very lovely moments between two people growing to love each other through their connection to Geum Bi and eventually becoming a family in the midst of very difficult circumstances.
But yes, Geum Bi’s disease plays a large part of the drama too, and I definitely shed some serious tears over what this girl and her family were facing. There’s no way around the fact that it is truly sad to watch anyone suffer through a disease such as this, but a child suffering through it is just heartbreaking.

For those unsure as to whether you should watch because of the subject matter, hopefully this will help you decide. The bulk of the drama focuses more on the healing and relationships of those around Guem Bi. Her disease is discussed in most episodes, and she does experience minor symptoms in many of them, but it doesn’t feel like the primary part of the story.
Things don’t get too bad until the last few episodes. That is the point where we have to face the reality of Geum Bi’s disease and what it does to her mind and body. And I definitely cried through the bulk of these episodes.

The drama doesn’t shy away from tackling serious subject matters such as how children react to death. It also depicts how hard having to watch and care for a dying loved one is for the family. At times they are drawn together, but at other times, things become too difficult, and they become angry and lash out at each other.

Things aren’t sugar-coated concerning the family or Geum Bi’s reaction to the situation as well as the many difficult decisions they face regarding her treatment. It’s an incredibly difficult process for everyone involved.

Overall, Oh My Geum Bi excelled at hitting the right emotional beats to completely warm my heart while watching the relationship of a father and daughter blossom. And this special little girl transformed the lives of everyone around her.

She brought many smiles to my face, but then her harrowing journey through illness broke my heart. But even in the midst of sadness, there was always hope. This story was told so beautifully, and I’m glad I ended up giving it a chance.

One of the best science fiction dramas

So how did Circle do as a whole? Did it live up to my expectations? My answer is a resounding YES! First, it completely nails the science fiction genre. With a plot that focuses on aliens, futuristic technology with small chips that control your emotions, altering memories, and a dystopian future divided into a disease and crime ridden Normal Earth and a Utopian Smart Earth, you really couldn’t get more into the genre. It’s like they threw as many sci-fi tropes as they could into the story, and it somehow worked beautifully.
The writing for this drama was brilliant with layered characters that are so well developed. There is such an intriguing mystery that is put in place right from the get go, and it is perfectly woven between the two timelines. The pace is fast and full of suspense from start to finish as there is a constant sense of urgency.

And there are always new plot developments with plenty of twists to keep things interesting. It’s hard these days to deliver true plot twists that the audience doesn’t see coming, but Circle delivered them repeatedly, and I was always wondering what was going to happen. It was truly amazing.
Circle also used a unique format by dividing each episode in half with the first half focusing on the 2017 timeline (Beta Project) and the second half focusing on the 2037 one (Grand New World). I wondered how this would play out and if it could be executed well, and it definitely was.

Both timelines were equally important to the story. In 2017, the mystery is just getting go with a lot of developments happening. You’re then left wondering how things ended up the way they are in 2037, but at the same time there are still plenty of mysteries that need to be solved in that timeline. The world building was really excellent. Plus, you get double the cliffhangers since each part ends like a traditional episode. And there are some amazingly good cliffhangers!
I seriously enjoyed this drama on many levels. Circle: Two Worlds Connected immersed me in a thrilling science fiction story full of mystery and suspense. The actors were all amazing, and they completely drew me into their characters. It was a gripping tale that completely moved me. This was a science fiction story with that heart that Korean dramas are frequently known for. It exceeded my hopes for this genre and left me in awe and more than satisfied. I consider it a must watch.

A touching historical story

Terasa natural, itu hal paling impresif dari film ini buat saya, meskipun klasik but there's a heartbreaking emotions at the end of the story. Segmented. ♡

nice movie

It is really a very special movie .. its story was touching. I decided to watch it because I thought it was just a movie about dreams, music and comedy, but the film took another turn ...
The representation of all the crew was wonderful, especially the child, and what distinguished the film was the wonderful music.
I was disappointed in the middle of the film because I waited as the child waited, but despite this, I felt full and complete at the end of the film because its events were more real than I expected ..
Really, it's a nice movie

HIGHLIGHTS
ENDEARING FRIENDSHIP :
One of the show’s strongest suits is the friendship and chemistry between its leading trio. The bond between Wol Ju, Gwi, and Kang Bae, is endearing throughout the series. Though unlikely, due to their different ages and personalities, the characters grow closer as they embark on missions to help settle spirits’ grudges.
Since the characters have all struggled with rough emotional pasts and hurtful relationships, it was a wholesome journey to witness them grow closer to one another. Moreover, their hilarious but well-intended missteps throughout their missions provided viewers with many laughs.

ROMANCE :
A nice addition to the show was its romance. While Wol Ju often remains cold, distancing herself from her loyal companion Gwi, she begins to form feelings for her devoted friend. It was also pleasant to watch Gwi’s fondness for Wol Ju, and his ability to see past her brash exterior to see her true generous and kind heart.

DRAWBACKS
SLOW PACING :
Though the main trio’s missions to help spirits were often comedic-driven and did provide laughs for viewers, they often felt dragged out. As such, each episode’s pacing seemed too slow to truly captivate audiences for its entire duration. Consequently, the narrative felt disjointed and sacrificed its momentum by focusing too much on extended scenes of slapstick humor.
DRY NARRATIVE :
Despite having a very intriguing premise and strong premiere, the drama’s narrative grew less interesting during the series run. The show focused too much on humor or on the grudges of missions, rather than its main plot lines. As a result, episodes felt repetitive and boring.

MYSTIC POP-UP BAR SERIES AFTERTHOUGHTS AND RECOMMENDATIONS :
As a whole, Mystic Pop-Up Bar was a pleasant, light-hearted watch. Its interesting premise and exploration into the concept of an afterlife adds to its appeal. Furthermore, the strong performances of its cast shine in each episode.
The series would be a good fit for anyone looking for an entertaining break from heavier dramas, or for someone in need of a feel-good story.♡

Hymn of Death Korean

They each face their own personal difficulties when it comes to achieving their dreams and living their lives how they want to. He’s unhappily married and working in the family business after reluctantly following his father’s wishes while she struggles to support her poor family. Society and their families have definitely tied them down. Then when a romance sparks between them, even that becomes a forbidden love that stands in their way of happiness.

The mood of the drama is on the somber side with a melancholy feel and increasing sadness. Since it’s a short drama, we don’t get a whole lot of time to develop everything, but the story is thoughtful and well directed while being accompanied by some beautiful music with the soundtrack.

Hymn of Death Korean Drama - Lee Jong Suk and Shin Hye Sun

Lee Jong Suk and Shin Hye Sun were both very well cast in their roles. They gave moving performances that conveyed the struggles and heartaches each were feeling. Their lives were sad as roadblocks got in the way of their dreams and their love for each other.

It would have been nice to have more time to develop a story like this so I could get really emotionally invested, but overall Hymn of Death is a decent watch with enough good qualities to depict this tragic romance.
