I've re-read the novel twice because I do like the story, and am a fan of the author... but this series adaptation totally ruins my imagination of the characters in the novel. The dearly beloved MC in the novel has turned into an annoying overacting shrewd.
All I can say is, the first half of the series is quite entertaining for me... but, after episode 16, how I wish I didn't start watching it. That's to tell how much I can't stand seeing a good novel turns into a disaster series.
I think this series isn't for international audiences like me, because I couldn't understand, nor empathize with the MC.
IMO, she became the main villain in her selfish idiotic acts... but, of course, this is only my personal opinion. I admit that I don't know much about the dating standards in China, nor do I'm familiar with the depth of Chinese culture, thus this is just too much for me.
Don't get me wrong, I have high respect for the Chinese and their grandiose thousands year culture, thus I hope my watch-later Chinese series/movies will reinstate my enjoyment watching C-drama.
