Too edgy for me
This is a difficult one to rate.I assume the screenwriter is aiming for a dark and edgy vibe, obviously based on the manga. There are many teen issues dealt with here however one particular plot line used is jarring and gives it a somewhat make-believe feel.
Hard teen angst themes, other than the main actor (thank you for this discovery), there is either over or under acting. Some are over enthused, others act like everything happening is typical in their town.
I wasn’t inspired to dig deep and analyze everyone’s psych.
Good intro to Ryo Yoshizawa though.

Well-rounded story
I adored this series that focused on life, family, camaraderie and first love. This group of friends is so giving and selfless, their trials and tribulations of family and school life, intersecting with their personal lives give us all life lessons.
I love how each poignant scene is followed by a teaching moment narrated by one of the leads. This series keeps it real, there is headache and personal loss in life, even for those as young as teens. It doesn’t sugarcoat anything. With that in mind, keep an open mind about the end.

Less would have been more
I would’ve rated this higher had it not dragged on in parts that were over fleshed out. It felt like Ling Buyi had to practically be half dead each time he rescues Shaoshang from something to show how epic their love is and how unique their struggles are. I’m not suggesting Shaoshang capitulate even when Buyi closes himself off but the off-repeated plot left something to be desired after several times.Deep love can run in many forms but nothing but epicness would have suited this couple.
Acting wise, Wu Lei and Zhao Lusi are good.

Bittersweet
I am only writing this to counter the slander against Ren Min right from the time the main cast was announced. This is my first encounter with her work and it will not be the last. She can definitely hold a lead role in my opinion. Looking forward to checking out her other work.
Having said that, I was less than satisfied with some subplots to the point the ending was not a surprise. This is bittersweet to a certain extent. Maybe on another day I might say it is pointless, who knows.

Bromance turned so quickly
Boring. It was funny at first with all the OTT stuff.Halfway through and still don’t see why YZ is attracted to XY. Some plot fillers are time wasting. OK dramedy but even the bromance turned so quickly I got whiplash. Lost sight of the plot and tried to dig deep but it’s, again, in the words of Lan Zhan, boring. Don’t feel invested in the main characters anymore even though I tried to hold on.
Will probably skim to the end..or not. Life’s too short to waste such time and effort.

Painful
Office romances could go either way for me and this one crashed.First episode wasn’t too bad, kept me invested. The acting standard started going downhill from there (I mean I kept it low to begin with).
The point where I truly lost it was when Jun Jie was supposedly working overtime, courtesy of his boss. His pc screen WASN’T EVEN ON. Note- he wasn’t pretending to be working because the boss was sitting right in front of him.
I didn’t feel any connection between the leads. Maybe things improved later on in the series but I had nothing to make me want to go on watching this.
I get that it’s a low budget production (note- make sure to get a working pc screen though!) however acting gems have been found through them. This one wasn’t it for me...keep fighting!!
