Under the Black Moonlight

As a writer myself who enjoys movies based on story and scripting, this show exceeded all my expectations. The narration is meaty and straightforward - it tells you the premise and what you need to know just enough to make you think you know a lot - but of course you’ll never expect what will happen next. The concept is simple yet brilliant. The theme of death and “how did it happen?” will make you keep guessing. And the best part is in the end, there was an attempt to tie the whole story together and complete the puzzle piece; tying loose ends with a flashback of the past to make you understand the beginning. I won’t say there are no plot holes, but it’s not as important as the main things they were able to nail and accomplish in that ending. Explanations were given, and for those ones they didn’t, let me tell you, it’s called poetic license. we were given enough explanation on the story, and sometimes, you just have to accept not everything needs to make sense.
The acting is okay. Usually I find Kdrama acting a bit cringy, but this had just a few moments and side characters you will barely care about, because the focus is on the mystery and story itself. I had my fair share of “this scene or line or setting isn’t needed,” but overall It’s tolerable to say the least.
I’m seeing a lot of disappointed people, and I’m not sure why. I personally find this to have such an amazing narrative with a satisfying ending. After watching it I was overwhelmed, full of emotions I barely recognized - confused, happy, and satisfied as I stare outside the window thinking “what the hell was that?”
I’m very happy I tried this out. It’s a short, flavourful watch and I think it deserves more credit than what’s being given. it deserves everyone’s chance.
