Girls in the Dark (2017)

the last story of girl from nowhere kind of reninded me of girls in the dark. The characters all have secrets and are all unreliable narrators. Both stories are filled with lots of turns and twists and even the endings are kind of similar.

One day, Shiraishi Itsumi dies at Seibo Maria Girls High School. She falls off from the rooftop of a school building. Itsumi is the administrator's daughter at the school, and she was envied by all the other students there. Did Itsumi kill herself, or was she killed accidentally or intentionally? At the time of her death, she held a lily of the valley flower in her hand. A rumor spreads that somebody in the literature club killed Itsumi. Itsumi was the president of the literature club. A friend of Itsumi, Sayuri, is now the president, and she holds a regular club meeting, reading stories written by members. The theme of the meeting is “Shiraishi Itsumi’s death”.

Its hard to really go into the similarities of the two movies without spoiling things. From the outside they might look totally different but there are a few things they have in common, i suggest you just watch both

Both thrillers have a similar starting point in the plot, the subsequent investigation into the life of a mysterious female victim character, include aspects of manipulation and school life.

Both movies give off a similar vibe with their execution and plot reveal. the stories come together in a strange way. and ofc the cinematography is visually stunning with confessions being more complex. girls in the dark is like ddlc meets confessions. amazing watches

Both have literary club at the center of the story. Similar background but different theme, one with sexual exploration other a mystery suspense.

Both have a good plot that is psychologically intriguing. While not very similar in terms of execution, type of plot, etc., both are still dark and engrossing plots.

Both movies are about friendship between girls and both have dark elements that make you think. If you like dark japanese school movies, I would recommend to watch it.

Both are dark movies based in schools and female character driven. The plots are different, but both have great acting and intriguing plots.
