Love is spoken clearly in actions
Simple. Relatable. In many ways, inspirational.100 Tula Para Kay Stella
(100 Peoms For Stella)
Fidel is the typical nerdy awkward guy whose confidence plummets even more because of speech defect. Expected to be laughed at because of this, he is surprised to find someone who made him realize that his stuttering is not something he should be sorry for. He found acceptance in Stella.
Stella's tattoos and gothic get up may project a negative image to many but she is actually a nice person whose beauty is found more in her simple and transparent ways of relating to others. Many may think her love for music is a waste, but one person who is willing to support her in the pursuit of her dreams of becoming a performer is enough to push her to fulfill it.
"College life is the time when we discover ourselves. And the time we accept ourselves as well." - Stella
This is a story of love about two people and *between* two people, presented so naturally in the rawness of college life. The lines, the setting and the songs brought me back to my own memories of college, reminding me that it was then that I myself found persons who appreciated and inspired me.
The cinematography was quiet yet meaningful. The acting was so natural that the film felt like real life. The pacing and transitions were smooth. Kudos to everyone who worked behind this.
This is one Filipino movie you won't regret watching. And something you might think of rewatching on a cold rainy day.

Potential but feels like the male gaze
I feel like there was potential for this to be really good — if it had treated Stella more like a main character and less like a love interest. I actually really liked how the story went at the end, and themes of courage and timing would've been so much more powerful.Instead, with the entire movie being from Fidel's perspective, it felt like a movie filmed from the Nice Guy's perspective, with Stella and her bad decisions villainized, like she was somehow wrong for not choosing him.

A Nostalgic & Coming-of-Age Story
100 Tula Para Kay Stella successfully delivered each characters' journey. Though there were some sudden shifts in the film's tone, I didn't mind it at all because that's how life truly is. One day, you're happy. The next, you're angry at everyone and life starts to lose meaning.Another thing I like is the non-stop nostalgia. I wasn't in college yet but I do remember that 2004 was indeed a good year for Pinoy Rock Bands and Nokia phones. I believe it's the perfect setting for 100 Tula Para Kay Stella.
