Typical ROM-COM K-drama with Usual Cliches..

STORY - average
This drama has usual k- drama concept which has been shown over the years .
There is an arrogant male lead who later changes into better person,
Naive female lead who is push over but suddenly become strong person after going through so much stuff and would say Enough is enough (I wouldn't say Just Enough),
Evil second female lead who can do everything to ruin FL's life,
Borderline second male lead who acts on his emotions and then feel sorry.
Many secondary characters/couples which are used for comedic relief.
Little Suspense/mystery as salt
But NOT a MEDICAL drama!

It started off with "not getting along with each other" due to misunderstanding on ML's side, then become "fallen in love with each other"
Seung joo was warm-hearted but after going through accident, his personality changes and he become very arrogant, aggressive and insults Joo In ah in every possible way, which In ah bears considering he is like that because he is traumatized and need to be cared for. Seung joo changes after some time and realises his mistakes and fall in love with In ah.
It gives off a feeling of lakorn in first few episodes.
But as time goes, Seung joo realises Love Is Fatal for him and there are usual make up, break up scenarios.

The ending was literally rushed & really really average and you feel - "Seriously? That's the end?" and then "but its ok at least drama is over."

Acting - good
Personally I didn't like the start and end of the drama, but I liked the part where main leads were together.
Thankfully, the chemistry between Ji Hyun woo and Lee Shi young is watchable so this drama was bearable for me. I enjoyed their interaction. It was good seeing Hyun woo in romantic role after Queen In Hyun's man. He should do better dramas. This is really sub-par for him. But he was good playing Seung joo as you would hate him at the start and then he grows on you. Lee shi young is great actress. she really gives a feeling of naive and nice character.

I watched this drama just because it was JHW and LSY.

Music - average
Rewatch - mostly no.
You can absolutely skip this drama. If you want to watch this, then watch from Ep. 6/11 to Ep.14/28.

Note: I've become somewhat concerned that some people don't realise this review is satire. I would never recommend anyone actually watch this show, even though I did truly enjoy its sheer gleeful level of awful.

This is the best drama ever.

There are few Korean dramas that have brought me and those around me such joy.
The story!
The acting!
The subs!

Lee Shi Young plays endocrinologist Joo In Ah. She works with bad-tempered surgeon Han Seung Joo (Ji Hyun Woo). Seung Joo has an hormonal imbalance that affects his behaviour and that eventually becomes life threatening. They never explain what kind of brain damage the female lead has, although her mental deficiencies are just as obvious.

Seung Joo blames Shi Young for the death of his friend. The real culprit is her awful, selfish adopted sister. But neither is the culprit really - this is just bog-standard misogynism where women get blamed for everything just for existing.

These two unlikely mental patients fall in love. They have a certain enjoyable level of cute but the real OTP is Seung Joo and his dongsaeng, Cha Jae Hwan. It's such a shame that even in this day and age they have to hide their love away.

Risky Romance is best watched and enjoyed with illegal subs hastily cobbled together from the Indonesian translation by a high school student in Jakarta. That's the only way to really appreciate the true comic brilliance of this show.

Anything else might make you realise the show is actually terrible.

But watching this train wreck unfold slowly week to week truly gave me joy. I hope it can bring you the same joy.

Risky romance is a medical drama with no medical cases. The story like to focus on the relationship between the two protagonist and to built a romance that didn't really make sense. The male lead was too violent and childish, making it hard to imagine him with the girl. His condition, moreover, was used only when needed and they just forgot about it when it wasn't aiding the plot development. The ending, in addition, was rushed and didn't conlude everyones' stories well. At least this drama wasn't boring to watch.

Your usual KDrama with the usual ending

I liked the show but again... the ending lacked so much. It felt rushed and then left you wanting more. It pretty much summed up everything in less then 5 minutes. I am again disappointed with the ending. This seems to be a usual thing in Kdramas. Leave the ending rushed, much lacking, and not complete.☹️

I liked the storyline. It is a normal KDrama story. The acting lacked in parts but overall was good.

My biggest hang ups are two things... they breakup over something stupid instead of communicating on what is going on and coming up with a logical solution and helping support each other.? I really hate this! And the ending... I talked about it above.

Would I rewatch? Maybe if I am really wanting to see it again.

I started to watch this after I read a 10/10 review from another person.

The story and acting was fun to watch. The character Joo inn ah was naive, pure, kind, and quite attractive. She is just lovable and I wish there are many people like her in this world haha! On the other hand her step sister really did her part convincingly well.

The surgery part is underwhelming but that's about it, I still enjoyed Risky Romance :)

Meanest Lead Character Award Goes To....

This drama wasn't anything special. It was watchable....but mostly predictable and a little enraging. The lead character takes the whole Kdrama trope of rude male lead to an extreme that made me super uncomfortable at times. The things his character does to the female lead are astonishingly savage. I have flat out never seen a Kdrama lead with such bad initial behavior. I get that this dude is supposed to have a brain injury that makes him enraged and unreasonable, but dude is extremely mean. This drama falls into the category of "if only you had asked a single clarifying question in episode 1 there wouldn't have been any drama".

The female lead is supposed to be a Dr...but also simple mindedly stupid. She has very limited opportunities to act as any sort of intelligent female, she mostly runs around like a half-brained quack amongst geniuses. I hated the handling of her character and I wish they'd given her a little bit more depth or added a lot more comedy to complement her foolishness. There were so many points in this show where you have to just suspend disbelief and accept that in this particular Kdrama's world nothing makes any logical sense.

Like....ok dude has a brain injury and we're supposed to sort of loosely believe his high testosterone levels make him unreasonable. His personality changed with an accident in which his friend died and somehow he's now a mean dick because of his brain injury. But in the end it's more like dude was a dick just because he'd mad at the world because his friend died. The hormones that were such a huge initial part of the story just kind of fall away into the background and when dude decides to stop being angry and be a nice guy instead he just kind of does it with no medical explanation....which is fine, but it made all the medical explanations in the beginning seem unrelated and pointless.

The worst part about this drama was the REASON he's taking revenge on the female lead. He's mad cause his friend drove drunk due to a broken heart and died. Like every episode, every moment, across multiple characters, everyone seems to just accept that it's ok to blame the chick who rejected him for his death...and because of this it's ok to ruin her life. Wait what? Is that a real thing people think? I'd be pissed at my now dead friend for being an idiot over a random toxic bitch. It's not like she shot him, she just didn't want to be with him cause she was shallow and mean and he was poor.

The side characters we boring and underwritten, the ending made me feel like I missed an episode somewhere, the acting was as good as it probably could be for such an uninspired script. I wouldn't watch this again and if you're female you probably shouldn't watch this at all because it will piss you TF off with all the overt woman-hating themes.

This show inspite of having many repeated cliches but i can't deny it's an amazing one
very warm, fluffy and smooth

i felt warm while watching it and i didn't get bored
the character development for the ML only was great but not for others

and what was really amazing for me that they didn't get so deep in medical issues during the drama
which made me bored and got lost and lose my interest during watching quickly,
they presented only important information to serve the drama

but the weakest point was the end
which made me decrease my rate, as if they were in a harry to finish it

i almost got used to bad ends for KD's although it's annoying a lot but somehow i got used to it
but what makes me mad the most when they write at the end

SUDDENLY ..... AFTER ONE YEAR >_<

and i can't accept that fluid end for that B**ch (yoon joo hee)
i couldn't feel even with a tiny tin of sympathy for her till the end
i was too frustrated , because till the end i was waiting to see her get punished
OMG she raised my temper the whole show
how could she didn't get any punishment

and that stupid FL,
hey girl there was a limit for forgiveness
this is definitely beyond forgiveness, this is Stupidity you idiot girl -_-
you are not goddess -_-

and the make-up was horrible specially for the main 2 leads

except the previous lines
i really enjoyed it much

Should you? Would you? Could you?

You should watch this one (ONLY IF YOU WANT TO! )
You would recommend this to others. (NOT REALLY!)
You could watch this again. (NO)

This drama is ok to watch as a filler in between dramas (that is if you are looking for a filler). They could have finished this in 12 episodes. I fast-forwarded it in bits. It had its moments but on the whole, it's okayish. The lead pair is good. In fact, the actors are pretty good but the story doesn't really grip you. Watch it if you have nothing else to watch.

This was fun and light to watch... The actors/actresses were great and none of this "high school" type romance. I am glad it was just 16 episodes because if they made it longer, the character's deliberate martyr attitude would have driven me nuts. The lead actors shift from angry to sweet was amazing, he did it flawlessly. The comedy part did make me laugh and was not over-kill. Over-all this is an easy watch Rom-Com drama, the ending was kinda swift, I would have loved to have seen more, but it will suffice.

Like it

The story is very good because of his revenge on his friend's supposed girlfriend, he told the female doctor that he was not beautiful until he found out to himself that little by little he was falling in love with Doctor joo and in the end everyone was he found out that the reason for his friend's accident was because of his girlfriend's positivity, he was gradually changing ah as long as you just watch the love risky you will learn a good lesson and he is another comedy romance. Ji hyun woo is the best male lead role and more on romance scines but the last epidose is so sad but eventually love each other will find cure to each others

A Quirky Medical Drama with Room for Improvement

As a fan of Korean dramas, I delved into "Risky Romance" with anticipation, hoping for an engaging story set in the intriguing world of medicine. While the drama had its moments of charm and humor, it fell short in certain aspects, leaving me with mixed feelings.

The story of "Risky Romance" centers around the unlikely pairing of a passionate but reckless urologist, Han Seung-joo (played by Ji Hyun-woo), and a cautious, by-the-book endocrinologist, Joo In-ah (played by Lee Si-young). Together, they embark on an unconventional study that explores the relationship between love and hormones. The concept is intriguing, but the execution often feels lacking in depth and substance. While the initial premise shows promise, the development of the story in "Risky Romance" feels inconsistent. The narrative tends to rely heavily on comedic moments and romantic clichés, overshadowing the potential for exploring more thought-provoking medical issues. This imbalance hampers the overall impact of the drama and limits its ability to fully engage the viewers.

The characters in "Risky Romance" undergo some development throughout the series, but it often feels shallow and rushed. Han Seung-joo starts as a charming yet impulsive doctor, while Joo In-ah is portrayed as cautious and methodical. Unfortunately, the character growth fails to reach its full potential, leaving the leads feeling one-dimensional and lacking in depth. This missed opportunity to delve deeper into their personal struggles and motivations diminishes the emotional investment in their journey. Chemistry between the main leads is essential in a romance drama, and while Ji Hyun-woo and Lee Si-young have their moments of rapport, the overall chemistry feels somewhat lacking. The interactions between the characters fail to consistently spark the desired emotional connection, leaving the romantic aspect feeling somewhat forced and superficial.

In terms of production, "Risky Romance" demonstrates a moderate level of quality. The hospital settings and medical procedures are adequately portrayed, but the drama lacks the visual finesse and polished cinematography found in other productions. The visual effects are minimal, primarily focusing on realistic medical scenes rather than extravagant visual spectacles.

The OST in "Risky Romance" is enjoyable, with a mix of upbeat and melodic tracks that suit the tone of the drama. The music effectively enhances the mood and adds a pleasant layer to the viewing experience, but it does not leave a lasting impression.

Regarding rewatch value, "Risky Romance" may have limited appeal. The lack of substantial character development and a predictable storyline diminishes the desire to revisit the drama. However, fans of lighthearted romantic comedies may still find moments of enjoyment upon a second viewing.

While "Risky Romance" offers glimpses of entertainment and humor, its shortcomings in terms of character development, unbalanced storytelling, and limited chemistry prevent it from reaching its full potential. It may still appeal to fans of light-hearted romantic comedies but falls short of leaving a lasting impact compared to other dramas in the genre.

Good and enjoyable! Synopsis was inaccurate.

I usually trusted the reviews and comments on this site and avoided lots of dramas based on them. For this series however, I decided otherwise and thank goodness I did. Note: I watched this on Viki with good sub, and it was 16 episodes.
First of all, the synopsis listed was not accurate. ML didn’t have the desire to always win. He had a fragment left in his brain from an accident and it caused some emotional and physical issues. FL was described as obsessed with hormones but it was only displayed significantly in the first few episodes. Afterwards, couldn’t really tell how much she cared about hormones.
Yes, ML was a total jerk in the beginning, but the reasons could be understood (not excused). At he was sweet (enough) in the latter half.
Some comments described FL as a doormat. I respectfully disagreed. She was nice, way nicer than average, maybe like an angel. But she did stood up to her sister in the end. Also, it’s her (extreme) niceness and sincerity that could explain how ML was able to overcome his (wrongfully placed) hatred and fell in love with her.
Now on to Se-Ra. She’s the villain, yes. But again, the reasons could be understood. And in the end, she repented after she resolved the misunderstandings about the accident.
Finally, I do not think the ending was rushed. It had a 1-year time jump but the ending I thought was nice, showing how everyone was settling and working great together.
Overall, I really enjoyed this drama, which considering I’ve watched hundreds of them could be considered good.
