Too much serial killer, not enough chemistry to make it worth it
I almost never drop a drama but after realizing I was actively avoiding watching this drama I decided it was time to quit. Some dramas, I can fast-forward through the elements I am not enjoying, and the chemistry of the main couple make it worthwhile (Strong Woman Do Bong Soon for example). But this one, if I fast-forwarded, there would be nothing left. Makes me sad as I love the main actors but I'm just not buying the romance and it doesn't make it worth putting up with a serial killer who's always two steps ahead.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

Ok drama, but could be better
Initially, the drama has a lot of potential. It has a good premise and an interesting plot, but ultimately it suffers from "trying way too hard to be more than just a romance drama", something that I've seen happening before (with Queen: Love and War for an example). This drama has good leads with good chemistry and a very cute love story, but unfortunately the romance gets pushed back for the sake of focusing on the murder mistery, investigative plot. The problem with that is that the story has way too many plotholes and conveniences that happen just for the sake of moving the story forward or creating more conflict, to the point that sometimes I just got irritated. It was still interesting at certain points, but way too predictable and flawed to be considered a good murder mistery. As I said, the lead couple has a nice love story, but because the writers are trying way too much to focus on the murder cases their romance feels rushed (even though it takes many episodes to actually happen), delivering a mediocre investigative plot and a great, but underdeveloped romance.
The supporting cast is good, I specially loved Hee-Jin's redemption arc and Dong-Cheol was a nice character. As for the leads, Cha Min is very cute, he has basically everything I love in a male lead and even though he's rich he breaks the stereotype of cold, scarred by the past chaebol by being an actual sweetheart and very obvious about his feelings for Se-Yeon from the start, while she's an actual intelligent, strong female lead (even though a little egoistical and petty at times), making me like her instantly since k dramas tend to portray women as dumb or weak.
Overall the drama is ok, I'd recommend it for people who don't have anything better to watch, just don't go with your expectations too high.

Exciting rom-com
This is by no means the perfect drama but I don't understand why it's receiving such low reviews as I'd recommend it! It's really exciting and well-balanced from start to finish. I was expecting it to focus more on the deeper reason of the good souls looking good and bad souls looking bad (although who can ever call Park Bo-young plain, she is the opposite to model-esque I suppose) but apart from some comments here or there it doesn't really delve into that. Instead it's a crime rom/com.It is first and foremost a rom-com so while it was a bit rough, the small details weren't important because it was enjoyable and I wasn't bored at all watching it. We aren't supposed to take the story or characters too seriously. It created to entertain us and I was entertained. The action was exciting, the sorrow was sad, there were great plot twists, the romance made my heart beat, the backstory was interesting, the couple was adorable and had great chemistry.
Park Bo-young delivers her cute and sassy self, she is basically a sassier version of her Strong Woman Do Bong Soon character. Ahn Hyo-seop's a very fresh rookie and while he's rough around the edges at the start he delivered his bright, fresh, good-hearted character as intended. Every time his smile would break out after some tension would make my heart skip a beat.
I recommend it for the exciting crime & sweet rom-com.

Maravilindo!

Don't let the bad reviews put you off, it has its issues but its defiantly worth watching.
I'll start by saying it's a shame there are a lot of negative reviews about this because I actually enjoyed the series and I don't regret watching it, in the first few episodes I was quite confused but then things did start to pick up and aspects of the plot got more interesting and quite exciting. However, the reason I didn't score higher is because I did have some issues with the series. As other people have said, there are a few plot holes that never get fully explained, but that doesn't really detract too much from the enjoyably of the show, yes it was disappointing to see that lack of detail in the writing, but I personally didn't mind as much. There were many exciting moments that had me at the edge of my seat, and if you view the series as a crime thriller/ suspense/ murder mystery rather than a supernatural series, then you can see it is actually quite good, except for the ending, but i'll get to that in a bit.
I think the main reason people criticised the plot was because of how they did the supernatural elements. The whole thing about how Cha Min gets the abyss just seems a bit pathetic to me, and the fact that the ones that give it to him never reaper throughout the rest of the series (except the tiny bit at the end) doesn't make sense. I don't get what people are saying about Abyss not being relevant to the plot when it is shown or talked about in every episode, but I can understand their frustration on how it was never really explained about very well.
The REAL problem with the series was the ending!!! it seemed like such a forced scramble to make sure they had a happy ending that seems as if they put no thought into how it would end. Don't let that put you off watching but just be prepared for a really stupid last episode, they seriously could have done so much better with that. I think it would have been better to finish on a cliffhanger with the trial still going, (it was far to quick to be realistic) and "someone" still missing (I'm trying to avoid too serious spoilers here) then have a second season to fully flesh out all those plot details and have a better conclusion for the characters return, instead of it simply being 'oh hey i'm back, I missed you, this is what happened'.
One other thing I would have loved to see more of is the developing relationship between Cha Min and Se Yeon in the past not just their romance as adults. I would have liked to have seen more flashbacks of them becoming close friends as kids, and how Cha Min was there for Se Yeon instead of just repeatedly telling us that they were childhood friends.
Now onto the true saving grace of the series that made me enjoy watching.... The cast!
The character portrayals in this series was amazing, hats off to the casting director because the actors really play their parts beautifully. I'm a big fan of Park Bo Young and I think she is a brilliant actress and can really deliver the emotion her character is feeling. This is the first thing I have seen with Ahn Hyo Seop and I will defiantly go check out more of this work no I have seen this. And the rest of the cast too, Lee Sung Jae, Lee Si Eon, Han So Hee and Kwon Soo Hyun all portrayed their roles so brilliantly it just goes to show that the cast can really make the show, even if people had a problem with the plot, it can't be denied that the actors did a great job.

How did I manage to endure this drama until ep 12?
To begin with, I should have given up on this drama from the start.I don't know how I endured so much.
The story is average, I don't know if I could watch a drama like this, even if it was well-structured, something that doesn't happen in this drama.
About the actors, not to say the least, let's say that the beauty of the actors goes beyond their performance.
The main couple has no chemistry at all!
The music is forgettable, there's not a single moment that stood out to me because of the music.
I wouldn't feel excited to rewatch something I didn't like.
Now for those who were curious as to why I dropped out in episode 12, here are the spoilers:
Go Se Yun's shamelessness is unbelievable.
How can she say in ep 12 that in this 20-year friendship, despite him having tried numerous times to be with her, she rejected it, but later regretted it. What a lame excuse she made...
She rejected him because he was ugly in her eyes, so she preferred not to lose her 20-year friendship over him.
Sure enough, after he turns into an extremely handsome person, she can't help but try to hit on him. This was too much for me, and I gave up watching it.
Abyss and the beauty-obsessed culture.

CHA-MIN!
This series not only is funny, romantic, and tragic.. but it is also so entertaining. The bad reviews i think are seeing it the wrong way. About Cha-Min.. his previous body was a nice, overly caring, funny, quirky dude and when he transitioned into his soul body he had to keep that personality as the only thing that has changed was his appearance. I think he did it perfectly and people are taking his characters quirkiness as "bad acting" if you have watched more of hyo-seop series you would know his acting is perfect. In all i think this series is such a perfect kdrama for thoes looking for series that has love, comedy, and quirk.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

TLDR, I personally really liked the drama and would recommend it to others if they are willing to persevere through the first episode.

There was nothing to over the top. It was well scripted and clearly written by someone intelligent and sentimental. It exposed the internal and external looks and struggles. Lots of action too with a well done ending.
