Typical drama with icy general meeting witty woman, they fall in love, having problem, etc...
Funnily for me the drama became boring after they go back to capital. I don't know the story just makes me bored. Maybe because they don't take one side problem, either general & his court problem or wife with her problem. The challenge is not deep enough maybe, just a little bit touch the surface here & there. So when it reach the ending or supposed to be the peak of the problem, I've already quite bored with the plot.
Truth to be said this drama have some unusual plot. Like the king that don't want to be a king, the Princess Consort who is very good to her husband Concubine's child. Not many drama who don't using this kind of plot, usually the Consort is the one who very evil to the Concubine's child.
What most funny & the most unique in the drama just when the emperor & his brother throw thrones at each other. Usually they struggle to take the thrones for themselves, not throw thrones at each other & finally they give the thrones to, also unwilling but have no choice, Chu Xiu Yuan / An'er.
Overall this drama quite fun to watch but if you have something more interesting in your list i guess not watch is still ok...

This is amazing overall. It is just so cute!!! But, what bumps it to a 10 for me are the gestures of affections. They are abundant and done with such ease - both platonic and non-platonic gestures of affection. I have actually never watched a drama with as many kisses, but despite that, it doesn't come off as hypersexual. It comes off as melt-my-heart-romantic. And they did - they totally melted my heart. The female lead is adorable, and the male lead is so sweet. Sometimes you watch a drama or read a book for this one character, because you want a partner like that, but there are some fictional couples that have so strong a bonding that while you do want a partner like that, you can not imagine either of the pair being with anyone else. (I'm thinking of dramas like Doom at Your Service, Come and Hug Me, & The Untamed. Literally can't imagine the main pairs being with anyone else in any lifetime.) They are literal soulmates. In this drama, the female lead and the male lead are literal soulmates. They balance each other out, and their relationship is one of equals. It might not have worked out this well if the lead actors weren't as good at acting as they are. I am so, so happy that I found this treasure of a drama!!!

Good story with no plot
The story at the beginning was nice, I enjoyed both leads very much but this drama has absolutely no plot. Atleast at the first episodes its does since the romance is blooming but the rest are just tiny stories of their life's. I enjoyed it, it was sweet and nice but around the end I just found it boring more and more. I think this is the kind of drama you want to watch after watching a messy or sad ending drama cause it does give you all kind of romance every episode. I did enjoy that problems between leads wasn't dragged as much but just short time. It's the first wuxia drama I watch were there is no direct plot but rather short stories and it wasn't bad but surely not my favorite. I do enjoy the female lead the most since she's smart and strong all through out the drama. The male lead is with no doubt gorgeous so the couple chemistry for me is a 10. I wish this drama had a better plot something to wait for in the last episodes but in the end its just like a slice of life kind of drama.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Light and Fluffy with an annoying FL
I enjoyed this drama because it was light and fluffy. Nothing too heavy or too serious which is perfect for a weekend in quarantine. But I wanted to strangle the FL so many times. She was the most annoying character in the drama and it’s entirety. She always thought she knew better and never trusted her husband when told to just let him handle things and not to worry and always end up causing troubles. The ML had his annoying moments too. He always kept things from her and wasn’t always honest in the name of protecting her ?
I enjoyed the fluff and the story. Would I rewatch it? For the sake of my sanity, patience and to save myself from losing my eyeballs from falling out from being rolled from beginning to end…..HELL NO!

Nice Rom com
Chu xuming the male lead was awsome. His acting as well action scenes were really good.Fl was childish sometime and also behaved immaturely sometimes but still she brought humor in series. In some scene she was really good. Chu xuming was really a loving and understanding husband. He supported her in everything even at some points she was wrong but still he never blamed herI did not like ruanruan and xunier as couple. .
Overall nice watch .wont get bored while watching. Lot of clitches are there but its okay to watch it once in a while

This is my very 1st C-drama and I'm hooked to it since.....
After lots of drama searching and read tons of reviews, I decided this would be my very first CDrama to watch. I simply couldn't stop watching. So it took me just one week to complete the entire 30 episodes. The story line is great. Sometime has little suspense, many time it made me laugh and lots of, lots of romance between 2 main roles, Caesar Wu and Tang Min. They have such a great chemistry. I think that made this drama so good. I love the bright and funny persona of Tan Min's role and cold first but handsome, warm and caring persona of Caesar Wu's role. I wish they're the real couple in their real life. I also love the OST. They both sung the songs together. More talents! Oh, I also love their costumes. Beautifully designed. I also watched 'Chang'an Youth' by Caesar Wu. He also plays such a great main role. I think I am in love with his roles. He is so different in real life (chatty) but he plays his role accordingly and he is super great in acting. And Tang Min is super cute and she is also a great actress. There is one more Historical drama he is now making this year 2021. I cannot wait to watch it.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Familiar tropes in a fantasy-historic setting
Evil, scheming family members, cold, ruthless man, misunderstandings and love; this drama contains a lot of familiar tropes, but is still entertaining.Nice sets and costumes.
Could have been a bit shorter; some parts of the story was dragged out too much.
ML and FL was quite good, whereas some of the supporting cast was somewhat lacking.
The one thing I didn’t quite like was how her character went from appearing quite tough and brave to being helpless a lot of the times.
The place some of the clues led them to find more clues in regarding 8th prince was a bit too far-fetched; it didn’t sit quite well with me. Could have been scripted in a different way.
The ending just reminded me a bit too much of other drama; I won’t mention it (spoiler).

I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS HAS A RATING BELOW 8
General's Lady was such a good drama. I can't believe the ratings dipped.Let's talk about our leads first.
Shen Jin played by Tang Min was a pretty great character. I must admit though, I loved her more at the start when she wasn't as whiny. She's not at all a selfish character. She got married to the General to save her mother and her family's reputation, she was a great care-taker and friend to her maid, Cutie Pie as well as SuSu and she did everything she can to win over the General's heart. She single-handedly took down the Demon General and made him fall in love with her. Jin'er was a strong character at the start, and she was smart. There's also something comical about her at times which took me OUT.
Chu Xu Ming played by Caesar Wu is a feminist icon and you can't change my mind. Maybe I'm exaggerating it a bit but he is one of the most understanding, caring, and loyal husbands I've seen in historical Chinese dramas. His respect for Jin'er was impeccable. At the start, he was extremely cold and detached, but he was NEVER cruel. In most of these dramas, Generals and Emperors are cold and cruel but Chu Xu Ming was a sweetheart once you got to know him. He was so flirty, playful, and nice. It was a pleasure to see him come out of his shell and start loving Shen Jin. Y'all better appreciate this man. He had the cutest smile ever too. Together, she and the General made a dream pair.
The side characters were also very lovable and we didn't hate anyone except the evil half-sisters. Also, there are some quality kisses in this drama and it's abundant. The couple is very affectionate and intimate and there were no open-eyed-fish-kisses. Some of the lines were corny but get over it. I just skipped them cus it was kind of cringy.
The plotline is weaker than I would like to admit. It started off very strong but then there were obstacles that were placed due to the initial mystery plotline to do with the Emperor which dragged the last two to three episodes for me. There were plenty of misunderstandings but they sort it out like mature adults (mostly the General tho, Jin'er was a tad bit childish in some places but there was a reason she acted the way she did so she is excused).
Overall good drama. Give it a go. Please.

Good Filler Drama
I watched this drama only because of CJX and because I heard it was an easy comedy with lots of romance. Also because I needed a filler in between anticipated releases. The positive aspect is that it definitely had the comedy and romance people spoke of. I understand in 30 episodes there's only so much a drama can do. I do wish it hadn't taken on so many plots. One or two and keep it simple. The annoying part was the constant whining of FL and hindering ML in practically everything. Though she's a strong lead, the way she acts many a time and the misunderstandings she causes, feels like it's emasculating to the ML. Both are strong characters but though the ML treats the FL or tries to as an equal partner once they get their feelings out, her actions always seem to hinder a situation. The only thing I would rewatch are their cute romantic moments if I was truly bored. Both lead actors have a long way to go as major leads especially when expressing emotions other then anger and happiness; and I would definitely recommend CW to get rid of the snaggle tooth; it's very distracting. Not saying everyone must have perfect symmetrical teeth but if you're going to play lead where you'll need to smile, that could be a bit problematic. Everything was very rushed, especially the plots, at times even the audience didn't know what was going on. I did like the martial arts aspect of it and that CJX got a chance to showcase more fighting skills. Over all, I wish the entire cast luck in their future endeavors.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
It started well enough. I was invested and my heart truly ached for them when their foolishness caused each other pain. But as the story went along, it seemed to lose its direction and trotted to a quickly wrapped up ending. I got the feeling the script writers had no idea how to finish this story so it meandered to a less than stellar end. The last scene set in the present made no sense whatsoever. It should have been cut.
This is one I would not watch again. If I had to choose between this and Maiden Holmes, MH would win out. I found the actors more talented and the story better written.

it's a rewatch!
this is a review after a rewatch. I watched this back when it was first aired in 2020 and I still remember how I waited every week for the new episodes to come out in their official YouTube channel. and when I first found mydramalist a couple of years later, I remember I rated this as 9.5. not sure why I suddenly had the urge to rewatch this again, but I still like this the second time around, even if some things became slightly more obvious to me during this rewatch. and because of that, I rated it down a little this time (still an 8.5-9.0 for me though. lol)Ok, first lets go through the pros:
-I really love the chemistry between ML and FL. Even from earlier episodes, their chemistry was chef kiss. All their lovey dovey scenes were making me feeling all the glory of my single hood. lol When the general pampered his wife, I was literally squealing , not to mention when he was being protective of her. This pro remains the best thing in both my first watch and rewatch
-Caeser Wu's acting here was brilliant and it makes me want to search more of his works. however, I remember watching his other work and felt his acting was off there (maybe because I absolutely cannot stand his then FL's acting. haha sorry). I especially like how he broke down during the quicksand scene when his lady saying her final goodbye expecting their little family to die together, I can feel a mighty general's helplessness during that scene and how he broke down crying after was beautiful and heartwarming
-the plot, even though doesn't make that much sense sometimes, goes well with the lighthearted theme it seems to portray on
-the costumes were mostly beautiful, though not all, some is a miss as well. lol
-OST was very nice. and can be heard all through the drama, not just the beginning and ending like some drama's osts
-due to its lighthearted genre, and not so long episodes, a rewatch is possible
The cons:
-hate the fl's younger sisters. lol. such an empty minded green-eyed bitches
-the final bad guy (Situ) was a weak villain (and who the hell believe a guy taking someone as his little sister after just a game?)
-on my rewatch, I have a slight problem with Jin Er behaving childishly, only creating ruckus and end up having the General to solve them for her. However, during the second half of the story, I cant help but blame the General always acting alone and refuse to sit down and explain his plan, even though it is obvious that his wife will be involved no matter what. this leads Jin Er to act blindly and falls into wrong hands, I mean, trust should be a two way street right? The general shouldn't expect Jin Er to follow his words blindly when it is her and her families' sake at risk.
-the love story between Xiuyuan and Ruonan was not that well developed to me. and when compared to the smothering chemistry between Chu Xiuming and Jin Er, the difference became that much glaring
All in all, I enjoyed this even on the second watch. So I guess, there is that lol. Recommended if you are looking for something lighthearted and with 65% comedy. lol
