My first surprise came from two things, Mun Young's antisocial personality disorder and Sang Tae's autism. For America it must be pretty old news, I bet there people don't realize that in other countries mental health might either not be a thing or treated very differently. I'm not from the US, so I can relate a bit to Korea on the subject. After all mental disorders are rarely talked about there, mental health issues seem to be often swept under the rug, shunned or treated with scorn, maybe people don't even believe in it. Here we don't really shy away from mental health problems, but therapists themselves are not in favor (they all act as if they have problems themselves))). So seeing them putting such things on the screen felt like a step. More than that, Sang Tae's character wasn't glorified (imo). And also Mun Young wasn't your typical FL.. more like she was the opposite at first glance.
I consider this a healing drama and to me actually Sang Tae's character represented the process. No really, just for Oh Jung Se's acting I wouldn't give this show low rating, I found his acting and his character simply amazing. The acting of others also should be praised btw, everyone did a very good job. It's just that Oh Jung Se stood out for me.
And I'll be honest here, I had never had a chance to experience for myself what it's like to know a person with autism, everything I've seen was only in different TV series and some don't glorify the image. I found myself thinking when watching Kang Tae taking care of Sang Tae - damn, this is hard, it's as if you don't belong to yourself, but belong to the other person. It felt like a heavy boulder weighed on your shoulders when you simply can't even communicate properly and often times adapt to the other person. So changes by the end in Sang Tae were more obvious. It doesn't mean that he lost his autism, but things changed.
As for Kang Tae and Mun Young.. I must admit they chose a really handsome pair. Soo Hyun is really handsome and Yae Ji is the epitome of what the say about melon seed face in the description (don't ask, I read a ton of Chinese novels and they always describe small faces as such) and has tiniest waist. She was really loud, rude and capricious, but I still liked her. Also unlike other Fls I know they really dolled her up, she didn't wear clothes, she wore money.
In general no one from the trio was completely an okay person. But it's okay to not be okay. Gotch ya.
The main part of the storyline was actually the past that weighed down on all three. So getting some answers, coming to terms with ourselves, finding ourselves being changed thanks to the other person was part of the process.
When finishing it was obvious that this show might not be for others. I wasn't part of the hype, since I'm seeeing this show basically years later, so I have no idea if the show was heavily advertised, but I can say without people shoving something to you, I chose this drama for myself and enjoyed watching it.

Seo Yea Ji and the plots within the plot
I liked two things about this show. The soulful side plots and how brilliant Seo Yea Ji is in it. The whole animated cuteness, innovative camera work, comedy to both heighten and lighten the serious tone and a journey of a few troubled soul to find happiness in a goth fairytale package is mostly fun and moving at its peak. But it's way simpler than I expected, more melodramatic than I prefer and a little short of deserving all the hype imo. The acting was superb. Characters are fun. The tonal transitions from comedy to drama are really smooth. The hospital director, Juri, Mu Young's publisher are such good supporting characters, so good that this drama feels full of good things, but as you can imagine, there's a 'but'. Despite the good parts, the melodrama sometimes cheapens the story. And the one character I was constantly annoyed with is Gang Tae. He is really important to the plot and offers many emotional scenes and it's not that the actor failed to deliver but his self-pity is colossal?. Half the drama he spends feeling sorry for himself, running and pretending. I just couldn't like him. I read that many found Mu Young rude and psychotic in an unlikable way, but she was perfect, she is larger than life by design and contrary to her character detail shows more emotions, maturity (especially when it matters) and longing to connect. Gang Tae keeps rejecting. I'd call her unrestrained interest in Gang Tae unacceptable obsession if he didn't reciprocate her madness in his passive regressive style. The melodrama too ruins the show, Gang Tae is shocked to find out the culprit (even though we viewers are not?), his face is displayed from all directions for 5 minutes?. And in what age are we living to hold children responsible for the crimes of their parents? Their emotional excessiveness was about such a futile point that it lost gravity. This drama could've been 12 episodes imo. But let's applaud Seo Yea Ji again, for bringing an imposing, soul seeing, lonely yet liberatingly free goth figurine together with a childish, thirsty for love, 'easy' to please comedic rendition of someone so abused. Sang Tae too was a very complimentary counterpart to her, and the actor is really enmeshed brilliantly with the character. It's okay, but the ending did not sweep me off my feet or the message; the harmony, the theme, the tune - I really appreciated but the sum of it - not so much. It's still really good for the amazing parts it's made of. A solid 8.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?

In short; a drama about a childhood love and mental traumas.
It's a drama less about romance than it is about personal healing and learning to come to terms with your past.If you liked It's Okay, That's Love, you will love this. Although the romance underpins the whole story and keeps it going, I believe what most people liked about it is that it is driven also by relatable psychological themes such as family, personal hurt, trauma, and etc. I will rate this an 8 overall because it's objectively a good show, but not a show with themes that I particularly enjoy.
If you like dramas that are a little heavy with the romance not being the main focus, you can check out this show! Music and storytelling are great all around, it's a matter of taste.

I watched it for the second time...
Mindenkinek csak ajánlani tudom.I watched it a second time and enjoyed every moment again. The descriptions so far have written light amusement, but I have seen a series interwoven with very deep human dramas. The actors “lived” and didn’t play their part, which is a wonderful experience. Out of the series and films so far, it was an outstanding acting and dramaturgical experience. For me, this drama with a unique tone but touching a lot of people is worth 10/10 points. I can only recommend it to everyone.

Incredible....
Okay first of all ... I am not the kind that are easily drag into a story but here... they stole my heart for real.Story : 10/10 => I was convinced at the first episode, I was tired of all the same stories in Dramas.. but here, It was really different with a STRONG subject of autism, pain, family and bonds. Like "it's okay not to be okay" for real... I was SO into this story .. I felt for them so much, I cried so much. I am not disappointed at all , and the plot twist was mind blowing like what the heck I didn't see it coming AT ALL !!
Acting/Cast : 10/10 => 1) I don't know many actors in Kdramas , my favorite one so far is Jung Hae In because he can share emotions so well ... But Kim Soo-hyun as Gang Tae was incredible ! Like damn, he was fit for this role, I am looking forward to other dramas with him, he got me.
2) And for Seo Yea-ji as Moon Young, she was stunning ! I was really bored of all those weak and shy FL always chased by the ML and so indecise... She was a strong woman whom knew what she wanted and She was always going after it. I also loved how she was indeed smooth in the inside, bravo !!
3) And like we say in French , "le meilleur pour la fin" : Jung-se Oh as Sang Tae .. WOW !! It the best performance I ever seen... He was so good, like I felt for him so much, made me cried so much, I don't know much about autism and I bet like many people , so it made me feel really sad and happy at the same time. I loved it
Their characters development was incredible , really great casting !
Music : 10/10 => Really addictive , especially "In silence", It's their song !! Fit very well with the story, I even downloaded it :)
Rewatch Value 10/10 => : Can't wait to rewatch it one day
Overall : 10/10 => One the top of my list, I will not forget it this soon .... Thank you and BRAVO

A Masterpiece of a Drama, Absolutely Brilliant.
This is a Stunning and Amazing Drama, The Acting from every character is Wonderful, even the children were Superb. The Male and Female leads were totally fabulous. This Drama stands alongside Crash Landing and Eternal Monarch at the Shared Number One top of my List of Best Dramas. I cannot adequtely describe the impact this made on me. The Actors expressed every possibe emotion and totally captivated their audience. They all deserved Oscars for their performance. I have noticed recently that K Dramas have abansoned their briiliant Dramas in favour of Horrors, Action and Zombies. What a shame. K Dramas saved my sanity during Lockdown. I have exhaisted all on Netflix and Viki and have since moved on to great C Dramas. Asian Dramas leave Hollywood for dead now. I absolutely loved this. Both Leads are stunning.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
This story hits hard when you've been through some bad things.
I found myself watching this story for the poems/books, the plot itself is good, but the healing journey is what kept me going until the end.It kept me going because I'm on a healing journey myself and the stories in the books moved me in a way that I ended up buying them even though I can't read Korean lol
Especially The child who feeds on nightmares and The Cheerful Dog
I really liked the way in which the various types of relationships are shown especially the relationship between the brothers and the best friend.
The plot that comes with the FL's mother is interesting, but that's not why I watched this series.
