Better than I thought it would be
Yet another drama that I thought I would have zero interest in and it turned out to be a surprise hit for me. The premise didn't sound that interesting to me, but the amount of high ratings and reviews rolling in when it was complete convinced me to give it a shot. My non-Asian drama watching son even watched it with me and enjoyed it.The story really kept me guessing for a long time and had a lot of suspense and thrills that raised my anxiety. I was hooked from the first episode, and was easily caught up in the unfolding of events that lead us up to the present day in the story. It was well-written and well-acted. What was surprising to me was how it was as much a love story as it was a crime drama. But it's not the new love kind of drama that you're probably used to as this is a couple that has been married for a long time. They know each other so well...or do they?
I think even people that aren't generally fans of mystery/crime might enjoy this and should give it a chance.
Believe it or not, this is the first time I've ever watched Lee Joon Gi, but his acting was superb. He played his character very well - watching the flickers of expression on his face (and there were many) as he experienced different emotions showed his remarkable skill. He could be cold and calculating one moment and loving and tender the next. Moon Chae Won had good chemistry with LJG and performed well also. I've not really watched her before either, but I enjoyed her in this a lot. I didn't have any expectations of the actors - maybe even low expectations - and I was blown away by how good they were.
I enjoyed the music in this also, and there were several really good tracks.

Hands down one of the best Korean dramas
From the first episode this got me hooked on. I really enjoyed that kind of plot twist of Do Hyun Soo's personality. I agree, it might be a bit bloody for some people in some scenes but you're on the edge of your seat every time. It's definitely the kind of show you don't come around every day, not even once a year. The 15th episode was a rollercoaster of emotions.Acting: Lee Jun Ki never ceases to amaze me, he challenged himself a lot taking his role and did it flawlessly! Moon Chae Won was spectacular, the conflicts she had finding out the secrets of her husband were so good acted! Jung Seo Yeon (Eun Ha) played so good, she got me through a multitude of emotions. Kudos to all the actors, everyone did a fantastic job!
The OST was amazing: proof you didn't need tens of songs, you need few to make it memorable!
This is a drama to rewatch not only once, but twice, thrice.

Season 2 Please?!
Around of applause for all the Actors and Actresses from Main to Supporting for they have Nailed it All!, production, and Music adds goodness in it! Story and Scripts was very catching but there are some imperfections but nevertheless, it was a lovable and thrilling melodrama. It was very exciting to watched them as they have caught my heart whether it be sad, comedy or romance. I've noticed Moon Chae Won in the Good Doctor, she was pretty and very good in acting and I was very happy as well in her role here for she was very good always in all that she does, I saw her improved in her acting from the Nice Guy to Good Doctor and here. She was the reason why I able to watched this drama. Thanks I have watched this! This is so far her best kdrama oveerall! Lee Joon Gi also did very well in his lead role here. I first saw him in Hotel De Luna and I don't like his guest role there but in this drama he was perfect in bringing out his character with Moon Chae Woon. Noona, sister, was very pretty as well, and Reporter Kim was also nailed in His acting in Comedy and or Serious acts. Amazing! Hope there will be a season 2 for this drama! How they continue their lives after the finale and I was looking forward for the family dinner with Do hyun Su family(with Noona)! Reporter Kim and Noona what happened after this? Season 2 please?! :DDDDD

One of the Best Dramas of 2020.
This is definitely one of the best Korean drama that I have ever watch. It's a literal roller coaster ride that would always leave you breathless in every episode to the point that a calm scene will scare the shit out of you. Really, don't expect an episode without chaos haha. You'd laugh, cry and feel the love in it. I was just really thinking that I'd watch it at a past time, you know. I didn't expect to get too attached to it since I just really found it interesting. But I never expected to be in too deep in it. Once I started, I never know how to stop myself from watching. There are a lot of things that I really really love about this drama but I want this review as spoiler-free as possible because if you're thinking of watching it, then definitely go! No regrets, it's worth it, I swear. But please prepare tissues and prepare your heart.
One of my favorite thing in this drama is the trio. The Baek family. Baek Hee Seung, Cha Ji Won, and of course, the ever-lovable Baek Eun Ha. I really can't move on with their bond as a family. It feels heartwarming every time that they're complete on-screen and having a good time, but it's scary at the same time, you know. There's always this fear for what will happen in the next episodes and how would they overcome the struggles to come. You would really want to protect them as a family at all costs. They don't have to be vocal about how much they love each other because you could feel it in their actions. And I think that's one of the best things about it. There's no cheesy or over the top dialogues to express their love, their action speaks for it.
It is my first drama of Lee Joon Gi and I am beyond impress. I didn't expect him to be that good. And also Moon Chae Woon! They all nailed their characters. I couldn't think of any other fitting characters for their roles other than them. The emotions are there in their eyes. The pain, sorrow, struggle. I especially want to commend Joon Gi for his excellent act. I was so carried away with his acting. The two's chemistry is also... wow. I couldn't get over it. You would think they're really married haha. Special mention to Episode 11. Goodness, gracious. Their acting is truly phenomenal.
Let's talk about the plot. Wow. It was the first thing that really tickled my interest and I never regret picking it up. Most of the scenes would really leave you breathless, scared, and crying. The story was really unpredictable with every twist and turn. I love how their actions really reflected the scenes that happened. Also, the OSTs are so beautiful! I also love how they gradually unfold the past relationship of the two that made me connect with them even more.
Some might be disappointed with the ending, but it's just perfect for me-- or maybe almost. If they only give me few more scenes showing the family's bonding again then it would be perfect. For me, the ending was the right ending for all of them. Knowing everything that Hee Seung went through, if I am him, I think I would just also choose to forget it all. And I think it was just perfect timing for them to start anew. You know, it's time for him to love his family as him-- as who he really is and not someone else. I don't want him or anyone else to be haunted by the horrible past that they have gone through for months and years. I did complain at first, but gradually I realized that it's just the ending that they all deserve.
Well, that's all. I tried to make it as spoiler-free as possible haha. If you're planning to watch it, then go! You won't regret it, I swear. Truly one of the best Korean dramas of 2020.

There will never be anything like it.
Quite literally the best show I have watched up till now.I loved everything about it, every piece, every moment.
It is an extremely dynamic and intense story, the acting is incredible and honestly it tore me apart a million times just to put me back together again. (-Last episode, I'm talking about you).
I was loving it until the end brought in the memory loss trope. Whenever I encounter one of those I quite literally can't function. It hurts to think about the person someone once was, and how they have to start again. Quite literally, I was terrified. The ending did make me cry and feel so much heartbreak. But as much as I hated it, I loved it so much more.
In the end, the pain was worth it. Maybe it's because I haven't watched many impactful shows like this, but I truly believe it can't get better. I will never ever forget this. It will quite literally be in my mind forever.
It was truly incredible. Honestly, probably my favourite forever. Beautiful.

A must-see thriller
No words... Simply the best thriller so far. Loved everything from the story to the leads and the relationship between them. I really believed that the main lead was a killer in the first episode and as it progressed my entire perspective changed. I loved the cliff hangers... It kept me gripped till the end and I was always on the edge of my seat. The way the story progressed was smooth... All the unanswered questions were slowly answered as the story progresses. The pace was just right. The chemistry was too good. The leads played out their roles really well and their kid was just a cutie pie. The story was predictable in certain parts but still I really loved it. The concept was unique in many ways. In short... Really loved it. Highly recommended.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Shout out to the Writer!
Stop whatever drama you are skipping through right now and watch this. When i tell you this storyline kept me coming back every week, it was like clockwork. The synopsis is up there, im not going through that. The acting, the acting ohhhhh the acting. I haven't felt this emotionally attached to actors in a VERY LONG TIME, i legit had to come to grips with reality when it finished. From the adult actors to the child actors, this one was casted so well.
The music once again added to my Spotify playlist so i can CRY every day for the next few months and then every time i hear it again on shuffle.
Yes, i will watch this again - DEFINITELY.! But just like with Goblin i need to get over the lump in my chest from the series being over. Despite have over 100+ dramas on my "plan to watch" list, rewatching this series is PRIORITY NUMBER ONE!!!!
Lmk how you like it, was my rating accurate?

I feel sorry for the people who watched it while it was airing
This is one of the most bingeable dramas I've ever watched! Every single episode ended in a brilliant suspenseful scene that forced me to click "next episode" right away. It took me two days to watch the whole thing and it could have taken me less time but I had to force myself to pause every now and then because the tension was making me go a little bit crazy. The writer created this intriguing atmosphere since the very first episode and I really appreciated how the flashback scenes were introduced to us, seemingly at random, but that helped us create an image of the previous events (even if they were often misleading). This is one of those shows that you can't help but create your own theories but that will surprise you even if your theories were right! I guessed a couple things about the plot and the characters but somehow I always ended up being shocked at the way things had unfolded. I wasn't very satisfied with the last episode because it could be seen as a bit of a cliché but the last scene won me over so I guess I can overlook it haha
The characters... they were just brilliant. They all felt very real to me, even the "evil"ones and the ones that can be described as "monsters". I really liked how the show made me research about mental disorders and ended up teaching me quite a lot about the subject. That is the type of dramas that I like the most: the ones that I can take something from, other than the story.
Also, I think this is one of those shows that motivates an actor to be an actor. While watching this drama, I often thought about how difficult it must have been for literally every actor to bring these characters to life in a realistic way, since the plot isn't necessarily the easiest or most common. I was fascinated with this cast's ability to become these flawed characters and make us forget about their other previous roles. Personally, Lee Joongi is my favorite actor of all time and his character in Moon Lovers was very imprinted in my mind, and I was worried about not being able to get into this story as much. Oh boy, was I wrong! The guy is a genius. He surprises me every time and I know I can always trust him to pick amazing stories and characters. Do Hyun Soo's subtleties weren't easy to notice but they were ALWAYS there. I was living for his chemistry with Moon Chae Won (Cha Ji Won) and Seo Hyun Woo (Kim Moo Jin). I loved their development as characters and the ups and downs of their relationships. Kim Ji Hoon (Baek Hee Sung) gave me the CHILLS, in a way not a lot of other characters had done. In fact, he was one of the most shocking characters I've ever seen. I was strangely attracted to Do Min Seok in the same way a microbiologist is attracted to microbes LOL and our little Eunha was always a pleasure to watch and warmed my heart! Every actor deserves recognition for their brilliant job.
Oh! And one thing that surprised me was how similar the young actors were to their adult versions. Teenage Do Hyun Soo looks EXACTLY like adult Do Hyun Soo, and the same goes for Do Hae Soo! Great great great job, casting team!
It took me a while to clean my watchlist and pick up this drama (I wanted to fully focused on it) and honestly, I'm not mad I didn't start watching it while it was airing because I would have died every week waiting for it! Even though it took me a while to watch it, I already knew the OST "Feel You" because Lee Joongi is obsessed with that song (he played it during his live, it's in his posts and stories LMAO). And I have to say it might be on my top 3 favorite OSTS, next to When the Night Falls (While You Were Sleeping) and Will Be Back (Moon Lovers).
I always say investigation and thriller dramas aren't my thing but I've been lucky with the crime dramas I've chosen and thankfully I'm opening up to the genre. For people like me, I think Flower of Evil is one of the best bets you can make. Brilliant writing, characters that make you root for them until the end, intriguing until the last scene, always tricks you even if you think you know what's going to happen... Oh well, a masterpiece. And my favorite drama of 2020, for sure.

Gripping from the first minute until the last!
STORY: I was enthralled by it as soon as it started and was unable to stop watching until the last episode (didn't help that every episode basically ended on a cliffhanger). I feel like almost every plot twist was an actual twist that I didn't expect, which is pretty rare. The story just kept unraveling, and I was excited to go along with the ride. There are two plots that are working throughout the drama: the action side and the emotion side, and they're both done so well. (My only qualm was with the last episode that seemed a bit trope-y, but it was an acceptable ending in my opinion.)ACTING: Everyone did such a phenomenal job. I could really feel the emotions each character portrayed. I really want to give props to Lee Joon Gi though since he was did so well, even down to what I would consider to be microexpressions (watch his mouth!)
MUSIC: I think the music heightened the experience while watching it by adding to the emotions and drama of each scene.
REWATCH: There are certain moments that I wonder if I can catch a hint of if I rewatch it, but even though I generally do not rewatch shows, this one was done so well that I think it'd be interesting to watch again.
OVERALL: After the first episode, I instantly started recommending it to everyone. It's totally worth a watch. It does cause a lot of stress though as you try to unravel the mysteries and hope that everything turns out alright by the end. But it's a good type of stress because it shows how good the drama is to invoke these feelings in the viewer. I also love how they really used that ~1.25 hours of each episode to the fullest.
WARNINGS: Just in case it wasn't obvious what you're getting into, just know that you will see people be murdered, be bullied, be kidnapped, and be stalked (and more). There's some disturbing aspects to this show, so be aware of that going in!

Great storytelling and immersion.
An intricate storyline, compelling characters, and intense performances make "Flower of Evil" a compelling television drama. Throughout each episode, the series uncovers more secrets, lies, and suspense. The drama revolves around the life of Baek Hee-sung (played by Lee Joon-gi), a seemingly perfect husband and father who harbors a dark secret from his past. The couple's relationship is put to the ultimate test as Cha Ji-won (played by Moon Chae-won), an intelligent and determined detective, uncovers the truth. As the plot unfolded, there were numerous twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. As a former detective myself, I really appreciated the story's investigative premise mixed with its narrative. Some shows portray the police as idots, but the police weren't like that.
The characters in "Flower of Evil" are multi-dimensional and well-developed, adding depth and emotional resonance to the story. Unlike a recent drama I watched (cough "Destined cough! With You") Baek Hee-sung's portrayal by Lee Joon-gi is particularly remarkable, as he flawlessly embodies the contrasting facets of his character. From portraying a loving husband and devoted father to a man with a troubled past, Lee Joon-gi's performance is commendable and adds layers of complexity to the narrative.
Moon Chae-won's portrayal of Cha Ji-won is equally impressive. This woman went through hell but she held it down. Her character's determination to uncover the truth and her conflicting emotions towards her husband create empathy and intrigue. The chemistry between the two leads further enhances the dramatic tension in the series. At times, it seemed as if they were really a couple. However, in episodes 12-13, I found the lack of communication between Hyun Su and Ji Won absolutely maddening!
It is a well-crafted script that makes "Flower of Evil" a top-notch series. The story's pacing is excellent, blending intense suspense with heartfelt emotions. Each episode reveals new information, gradually unraveling the mystery and heightening the suspense.
The series also excels in its execution, with visually stunning cinematography and a carefully curated soundtrack that complements the mood of each scene. The use of atmospheric lighting and well-choreographed action sequences adds to the overall cinematic experience, elevating the drama to a higher level. As a professional photographer, I'm always studying lighting at various scenes. Lighting is crucial to filming and photography.
"Flower of Evil" is a must-watch drama that combines mystery, romance, and thriller, creating an unforgettable viewing experience. With its compelling plot and strong performances.

SOOO GOOOD!!!!!!
Flower of evil is amazing! The emotions portrayed are just perfect, and I absolutely adored their daughter. However, the ending was So bitter-sweet. Overall, it's a must-watch show for fans of thrillers and crime dramas. The show's ability to keep you on the edge of your seat is truly remarkable. The plot twists and turns will leave you begging for more. The acting is also top-notch, and the characters are well-developed. This show really is a thrilling drama that will leave you wanting more. If you're looking for a show that will keep you entertained from start to finish, then this is the show for you."Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
Watch It!!
Ahh this show hit me so hard!!It's been a while since I've watched a kdrama that has driven this deep into my emotions. I wish that I'd been able to take it slowly and savor it, but the cliff hangers at the end of each episode kept me binging this show. The music was incredible; it worked with the mood and the scenes so well.
The acting is just... 10/10. I've watched several of Lee Joon Gi's other shows (lawless lawyer is another favorite) but he really outdid all my expectations in this one. I'll definitely keep watching for him. I've never seen Moon Chaewon before, but I hope to see her in something else again soon. Their chemistry together was soo good; they made this complicated relationship so believable.
PLOT:
I really, really loved this plot. At first, I had no idea what it would be like; I really put off watching this drama because the description of it didn't sound too interesting to me. But I loved the intersection of crime/mystery/romance/humanity/mental health that this drama tackled. The themes it explored are so so important, and it did it so well.
I would really like to rewatch this at a later time, slowly, cherishing the episodes. I definitely recommend watching it! Even if you're not a fan normally of crime/mystery, I still think many people can love this show.
