A kdrama that created a space for it deep within my heart <3
I usually love childhood love troupe (also Second Chances) so this was exactly my cup of tea. And usually due to that same high expectations I usually get disappointed by this same troupe as it fails to be portrayed so well. But this?? OH WOW. It was beautiful. Powerful, healing and just.. soothing. It felt like I watched a soothing landscape for 16 hours (oh yes Jeju!) I'm a very rare review writer so this one did impact me to write one. The story somehow healed a part of me!
(SPOILERS BELOW!!)
Story: 10/10
As I mentioned it might be my personal opinion but I am a sucker for childhood love troupe. And second chances! This kdrama grabbed my attention from both the aspects! This kdrama is actually the perfect example of two people destined to love each other despites all odds! Their story of healing, finding themselves in this busy world of rat race, the rawness and lastly never giving up on each other captured my attention and heart both! I loved the way side characters were significant in the story rather than just being fillers. Their stories had importance. Overall I loved the pacing, it was slow and refreshing. I m a slow burn romance preferring person so that worked for me. The unfurling of their feelings for a second time that they tried to bury for 8 years had the best pacing. The past unfurling was also at the right moment and at no point I was ever bored. I loved the humor. Especially the friends group! Small things they did were so wholesome that I went emotional all the time. It was so pure and beautiful. It had a good take in this kdrama and I enjoyed them so much!! I liked Sam Dal's family a lot as well! Overall definitely deserves a 10.
Characters and Actors: 10/10
I love Ji Chang Wook and it was refreshing to watch his character. It felt like he was way too natural for this role! he nailed it. I could actually see how naturally his character loved Sam Dal unconditionally. Same goes for Shin Hye Sun. I just adored her and her character. Usually I find male characters doing more than females and that their character only revolves around the male leads. Hers was different and had an unique take. I can't appreciate it enough. Their love story was so natural that it just healed something in me. I loved them throughout the whole time. I get it that Yong Pil took care of her deeply but at the same time he has his own individual personality, his likes and dislikes. Same went for Sam Dal. She was so raw, real and relatable as well. Shin Hye Sun nailed her role!
I loved the side characters! They were so adorable and had a meaningful presence. Each had their own role to fulfill and all seemed to nail their roles as well! It was refreshing to watch. I could not bring myself to dislike Yong Pil's father because it was his grief that held him back. I wouldn't justify the behavior but I couldn't dislike him either. Just like that I couldn't bring to dislike anyone (except for Jin Dal's in laws, they were annoying)
Music: 10/10
Music is something I particularly notice a lot in any drama so this one had amazing OSTs. They were so beautiful and refreshing to listen to!
Rewatch value: 10/10
It is obvious why it would have a 10/10 rewatch value. It was so refreshing to watch that for hours you can just forget about your real world and jump into the world of Sam Dal and Yong Pil, their story in Jeju hehe. It was refreshing experience so I would definitely rewatch whenever I need a recharge in life haha!
So yea here is an another review by me. Overall 10/10 recommendation if you love healing kdramas with second chances, top tier cast and romance hehe! (sorry if my review looks a bit shabby as I am not that used to writing them!)
Thank you. Happy reading and hope you have a great day ahead! :)

Disappointed
So disappointed with this series after only 3 episodes. Shrill, unsustainable storyline, an incomplete compilation of series by the director. Watched only because Ji Chang Wook, who is otherwise a very good actor, was in it. Waste of time and money. So disappointed with this series after only 3 episodes. I think this is a show that works if it's your style of show.
As for me, I was a bit skeptical seeing the overacting and temperamental adult Young Phil and Sam Dal when they're introduced. There were too many drunk crying scenes, too. However, when they showed how Sam Dal and Young Phil deal their inner conflicts as the story goes, I feel more sympathy. Especially, Shin Hae Sun's painful acts broke my heart. With Ji Chang Wook and Shin Hae Sun’s ability to create chemistry, I wish the romance is more captivating. Camping trip is fine – but I'm dying for some spiciness, just my preference.Except for the useless love triangle, I enjoyed the romance and family conflicts, but Young Phil and Sam Dal’s work life were neglected and was only useful as a plot device in the beginning. The resolution is fine, but like Sam Dal's as a photographer could’ve been utilized more. I have to admit that I was more tuned into the side characters stories more than our leads’. I love the neighborhood camaraderie of the Jeju villagers. They delivered all the emotions very naturally, be it humor, grief, or love. Each one of them has a heartwarming story, I love Sam Dal's mom the most.

This show has EVERYTHING
I haven't loved a drama this much in a while. I love me a drama that hits on all of my emotions and this is it. Think Hometown Cha Cha Cha with a lil bit of Good Bad Mother, but still different enough from other titles that it feel refreshing.I typically watch dramas while I do cardio at the gym and let me tell you, I felt foolish to be laughing and then crying a few minutes later. But I wasnt about to stop watching 🤣 It's funny and touching and romantic etc. My favorite aspects are the familial and friendship love and loyalty expressed in the show.
It's really a great watch, I'd suggest it to anyone.

A Slice of Korean Countryside Brilliance
Welcome to Samdalri, a 2023 K-drama that landed on my screen like a breath of fresh air, instantly weaving its way into my heart. It's more than just a romance; it's a love letter to family, community, and rediscovering oneself amidst the breathtaking beauty of Jeju Island. So, buckle up, drama lovers, because I'm here to gush about everything that makes this show a must-watch!A Story That Resonates:
At its core lies Jo Sam-Dal (Shin Hye-sun), a once-celebrated photographer disillusioned by the cutthroat world of Seoul. Returning to her childhood home in Samdalri, she seeks solace in the familiar embrace of her family and the island's natural splendor. There, she reconnects with her childhood sweetheart, Han Kang-woo (Ji Chang-wook), a man as grounded as the earth he farms.
Their rekindled romance is a slow burn, simmering with unspoken affection and shared memories. It's not just about grand gestures; it's in the quiet moments, the knowing glances, and the unwavering support they offer each other. Their journey resonates with anyone who's ever questioned their path or sought refuge in the comfort of home.
A Celebration of Community:
Samdalri isn't just a backdrop; it's a living, breathing character. The vibrant community pulsates with warmth and humor, each resident adding their own unique flavor to the tapestry. From the haenyeo divers, strong and independent women who defy age and societal expectations, to the quirky yet endearing townsfolk, every interaction feels genuine and heartwarming.
A Feast for the Senses:
The cinematography is nothing short of breathtaking. Jeju Island comes alive in every frame, from the golden sunrises over the ocean to the lush green fields swaying in the breeze. The soundtrack seamlessly blends traditional Korean melodies with contemporary tunes, perfectly complementing the on-screen emotions.
Actors Who Shine:
Shin Hye-sun delivers a nuanced performance, capturing Sam-Dal's vulnerability and resilience with equal aplomb. Ji Chang-wook is equally charming as the stoic yet gentle Kang-woo. Their chemistry is palpable, making their every interaction a delight to watch.
More Than Just Romance:
While the central romance is undeniably sweet, Welcome to Samdalri tackles deeper themes. It explores family dynamics, societal pressures, and the importance of staying true to oneself. It reminds us that happiness isn't always found in the bright lights of the city but sometimes in the quiet whispers of the heart, amidst the familiar faces and comforting rhythms of home.
So, if you're looking for a K-drama that will make you laugh, cry, and leave you feeling warm and fuzzy inside, Welcome to Samdalri is your answer. It's a show that celebrates the simple joys of life, the power of community, and the enduring strength of love. It's a reminder that sometimes the greatest adventures are found not in faraway lands but in returning to the roots that nourish our souls.
Final Verdict: A must-watch for fans of heartwarming romances, slice-of-life dramas, and anyone seeking a feel-good escape. Just be prepared to fall in love with Samdalri, its people, and the beautiful story it unfolds.
I hope this review has piqued your interest in Welcome to Samdalri. Trust me, this show is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. So, grab your favorite snacks, settle in, and prepare to be swept away to the enchanting world of Samdalri!

Had potential but sadly not for me
What I liked:- Smalltown setting > gives good vibes and beautiful landscapes
- The two sister’s romance plotlines
- Depicted family dynamics, daughters worrying about a stubborn mother with health issues > Many people can probably relate to that
- Youngest sister and her daughter -> Their relationship was just heartwarming. The daughter is so mature for her age… you could even think her behavior is more mature than the ML’s 😊
- Everyone knows everyone feels like an realistic depiction of a smalltown setting
- How everyone in town stood up for samdalri and protected her
- The fight between the two towns and the ahjummas on their vehicles (I have been contemplating for over 15 minutes about how the vehicles are called… but I just can’t remember. I feel a bit dumbfoundet. But yeah if I remember I will edit it) were genuinely funny scenes
- Kyung Tae and his romance plotline (which sadly fell very short)
Now what I disliked:
- 2 guys waiting for a woman over 8 years without progressing and expressing their feelings was too much for my taste
- Again, what a boring SML, what a boring way to execute a love triangle, unrealistic and upsetting
- Poorly executed/written flashbacks: I don’t dislike flashbacks in general. But you should do them do well otherwise it seems like poor writing. It’s super boring to include flashbacks in a romance storyline. Either be confident in your romance story and let us viewers start the story where the flashbacks begin or keep them simple. There were so many flashbacks in the romance story. At least in the beginning. The flashbacks in this drama room away for progression, story, and character development. At least it felt like the drama was going on and on without moving forward… instead relying on flashback love mystery that even turned out to be a letdown.
- The grudge of ML father was getting on my nerves. Combined with the miscommunication of the two leads. They were adults but acted childish.
- I couldn’t connect to the main characters and their romance was boring. Shin Hye Sun is an amazing actress and belongs to my favorites. I know this woman can act! I loved and absolutely adored Mr. Queen and Shin Hye Sun in it. That show gave her room to shine. Welcome to Samdalri on the other hand appeared to not be able to use her talent. The way her character was written/edited/portrayed was not my taste. I’m mean I can still respect her work and her acting and I am able to differentiate between her as a person and her different characters. Writing-wise See you in my 19th life and Welcome to Samdalri were disappointing in my eyes. Didn’t help that the chemistry between the leads as their characters was missing. Take a look at how Shin Hye Sun shines in a drama with intriguing characters and good production/writing, like in Mr. Queen. Still think her acting and chemistry with Kim Jung Hyun is unmatched. I also loved Thirty but Seventeen and Angels last mission: Love (even though I’m not sure about the quality of the plot in the last one… I loved it when it aired though). I always wonder why some dramas click and others don’t – Well one thing is for sure… it can’t be Shin Hye Sun acting.
- The drinking scenes > They used excessive drinking as a device to move forward with the plot. This was quite poorly done and overused in this drama. I’m familiar with Korean drinking culture. And I am aware that alcohol can be a big part of a culture (I’m german). Nevertheless, I wish they would sometimes take a more serious approach and see the drinking habits of the characters through a more critical lens. In this drama they even ran in circles with their plot progression because of their drunk scenes.
- I want to be honest- After being half-way through the drama I started to skip the scenes I wasn’t interested in
I can understand why someone would love this show. I can respect if others rate this drama differently. In the end taste is subjective 😊 This was just my experience with the drama.
If you are wondering where this rating stands in my rating system:
9, 9.5, 10 : Personal Favourite / 8, 8.5: Great / 7, 7.5: Really Good/ 6, 6.5 Good/ 4.5, 5, 5.5: OK / 3, 3.5, 4: Bad/ 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 : Horrible

A healing story taking place in Jeju-do, a haven for the exhausted dragons.
“I’m going to become a dragon that rises from a small stream.” – Cho SamdalA hometown (고향) is not just a place, it's a root, an identity, an experience, an memory. A hometown allows somebody to feel a sense of community and belonging. The story primarily unfolds in a hometown called Samdalri, nestled in the enchanting destination of Jeju-do.
“Yong-pil once told me no dragon can rise from a small stream by themselves. They get help from the loaches, mandarin fish, and frogs in the streams.” – Cho Samdal
This drama is about healing, forgiveness, family, friendship, love, and selflessness. Cho Samdal left behind her thriving career as a photographer in Seoul and moved back to Samdalri after 8 years of vacancy. By doing that, she also left behind her identity as Cho Eunhye, the workaholic tsundere, to find her true self as Cho Samdal.
“The migratory birds pursued their youthful dreams, but they eventually flew back to Jeju, their home.” – Cho Samdal
However, this drama doesn't only follow her path, but showcases the healing journey of all Samdalri's people.
- Ko Mija: A mainland lady who became the leader of the Haenyeo (해녀) mourns the loss of her old friend, Bu Mija.
- Cho Sangtae: A fool in love who saw his world shattered after the loss of his soulmate, Bu Mija. Since then, he is blinded by hatred towards Ko Mija, thinking everyone forgot the memory of his wife.
- Cho Haedal & Cha Hayul: Haedal was pregnant with Hayul at a young age and put a hold on her promising swimming career. She is also a widow. Hayul is a thoughtful and mature child who wants to protect her mother. The dynamics between them was my personal favourite.
- Cho Jindal: The eldest out of the three sisters. She married into a rich family and was mistreated. She always stands against unfairness and persecution, never failing to protect those weaker than her. At the price of her career, she denounced her family in law and their heinous actions.
- Cho Yongpil: The embodiment of selflessness. He always had a knack for helping and saving people. From decorating Ko Mija's buoy with a floral pattern, to pushing away his dream of joining the WMO in Switzerland, he always thought of his loved ones before himself.
“Your dream doesn’t always have to be a job. You two are my dream.” – Young Cho Yongpil
I mainly loved this drama because it tackles a topic that has rarely been addressed: Haenyeos.
Inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List since 2016, Haenyeos belong to the heritage of South Korea. The soaring Hallyu (한류) Wave is a great opportunity to showcase the culture of Haenyeos to the world through media like Korean Drama.
You won't see vengeance. The female lead is not a proactive character hungry for revenge. She is passive and doesn't want to retaliate against those people who wronged her. Whenever Bang Eunju looks for more ways to stain Samdal's reputation, Samdal chooses not to react. She tried to tell everyone that it's not true when she was in Seoul, but everyone turned their back on her already. Her friends and family, however, can't stand seeing Samdal be wronged when she didn't do anything and will do everything to free her from the dungeon of malicious articles and comments.
Throughout her journey in Samdalri, Cho Samdal realized that there are people who loved her. This is why it is important to go back to our roots, to remember where we came from and who we were before. Dwelling in the past isn't a good thing for sure, but it's unhealthy to completely erase it from our memory. Nostalgia isn't a toxic feeling when moderately consumed; it is a proof that we have accomplished beautiful things in the past that should inspire us to accomplish beautiful things in the future.
This story moves us, much like the azure waves of Jeju Island, and reminds us that it's okay to not be okay.
“The sea is the best place to be when you’re troubled. It’s peaceful and no one bothers you there.” – Ko Mija
“As always, we’re going for only as long as our breath allows without being greedy. And whenever we’re out of breath, we’ll come back to that place. Our small stream, Samdal-ri. Having a place to return to is an incredible relief.” - Cho Yongpil and Cho Samdal.

Healing
One thing is annoyingly becoming common in romantic comedies which is a love connection happening when leads are growing. This may used ignite spark at the beginning but now it is the biggest turn off. This is the biggest loophole for Sam Dal and Young Pil story. They have been unconditionally and irrevocably in love only to break up at the age of thirty. Love does not fade and enmity does not make them sour. You know what's going to happen next. The story is a perfect amalgamation of love, enmity and humor. The friendship of the five who gets along even after staying apart all these years will tear you. Even though it is a love that we know, watching the journey through various nooks and holes makes it a beautiful watch. The pain, the relief, the healing, the joy and absolute love all around. A warm slice of life drama about home, family and relationships.

Lalu perlu apa watak bu sang do jika memang tiada peluang dari awal.

It is a truly beautiful drama.
This was one of the dramas that make it feel close to real life.-The casting is amazing, like literally the best. The actors did not dissapoint at all. They deliverd all the emotions that was needed.
-The story is pretty good. It is not bad, but could have been better. Especially with the time travel. but despite this it was was a very heartfelt and emotional story. I cried a lot bcos the characters were either relatable or had a very sad story. Especially the main character they had such a sad yet heart-touching romance.
~ Every actor and actresses did a very good job especilly Kim Mi-Kyung. I always love her characters. and Ji Chang-Wook. I
have yet any other dramas with the FL.
~ The only character I despised but ended forgiving is Young-Pil's father. Like it was just annoying seeing him hate everyone
becouse of his pain and grief. Like no one told not to mourn for his late wife, but dening others to mourn was just wrong. But at
the end of it all I was glad that he came around.
~ Don't even get me started with that b*tch Eun-Ju, I hate the character . The actor is good to portray the character for me to
despise this much. But to some extent I feel like she complemented the story, bcos without her Sam-Dal and Young-pil won't
have met each other that soon.
- The ost's were all so good. I particularly love the scene where there were fights and everything would be in slow motion and a song would be playing in the backgroung. It made so entertaining.
Overall this drama was one of the best releases of last yr.
I fell in love with the show. I also enjoyed it.
I would really recommend to others.

Power Rangers
O casal golfinho simplesmente perfeitos!Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
