Flex X Cop: A Rollercoaster Ride of Action, Comedy, and Heart

First off, can we talk about the dynamic duo that is Ahn Bo-hyun and Park Ji-hyun? These two are like fire and ice, oil and water, you name it – but boy, do they make it work! Bo-hyun plays Jin Yi-soo, this crazy rich chaebol heir who decides to become a detective just because he can. And let me tell you, watching this guy fumble his way through police work while flashing his black card left and right is hilarious!

But the real MVP here is Park Ji-hyun as Lee Kang-hyun. She's the no-nonsense detective who's all about hard work and following the rules. Seeing her try to wrangle Yi-soo's wild ideas and extravagant methods had me in stitches. Their chemistry is off the charts, and I found myself rooting for them both professionally and... well, you know where I'm going with this!

Now, let's talk about the cases. Each episode throws us into a new investigation, and I love how they blend serious crime-solving with laugh-out-loud moments. One minute you're on the edge of your seat as they chase down a suspect, and the next you're cackling as Yi-soo tries to bribe his way out of a sticky situation. It's this perfect mix of action, comedy, and drama that keeps you coming back for more.

But what really got me was the heart of the show. Underneath all the glitz and glamour of Yi-soo's lifestyle, there's a guy who's genuinely trying to do good and find his place in the world. And Kang-hyun's journey of learning to loosen up and think outside the box is just as compelling. The show does a great job of developing these characters beyond their initial stereotypes.

Oh, and can we appreciate the production value for a second? The action scenes are slick, the comedy is well-timed, and don't even get me started on Yi-soo's wardrobe. I swear, I spent half the show just ogling his designer outfits and wondering if I could pull them off (spoiler alert: I probably can't).

Is it perfect? Well, no drama is. Sometimes the cases wrap up a bit too neatly, and there are moments when Yi-soo's privilege is a bit eye-roll-inducing. But honestly, these are minor quibbles in what is otherwise a thoroughly entertaining ride.

So, if you're in the mood for a drama that'll make you laugh, gasp, and maybe even shed a tear or two, "Flex X Cop" is your ticket. It's got style, substance, and a whole lot of heart. Trust me, you'll be flexing your binge-watching muscles with this one!

Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to rewatch my favorite scenes and daydream about solving crimes in designer suits. 😉

A lightweight thriller+action drama

If you are looking for a thriller but with less messy/bloody scence but with a touch of humour than go for it.

Particularly, It isn't a thriller drama but for a beginner it is a good option.......Even if you are not a beginner and want relief from mind boggling investigation ,mysterious plot and anxiety you can consider watching it.

The drama is lightweighted with a touch of mystery, action, thrill and comedy...........may get vibe of Batman or rich man getting in trouble on purpose for fun because why not.

You don't have to rack your mind as the story unfolds all your doubts will be solved.

Yes, it is a good watch.

Quirky Fun in a Light-Hearted Detective Drama

Flex Cops was a thoroughly enjoyable drama, especially for those who like detective stories that don’t take themselves too seriously. The male lead (ML) is particularly memorable for his quirky personality, adding humour and fresh elements to the crime-solving scenes. While some of the mysteries in the series might not be very surprising, they are still fun to watch unfold.

This series successfully combines elements of mystery and comedy, ensuring that the audience is consistently entertained, even if the outcomes are somewhat predictable. The interactions and antics of the characters provide plenty of laughs and keep the mood light. This drama is a great choice for viewers looking for a detective drama that offers humour, a laid-back approach to the genre, and enough suspense to keep things interesting.

An Underrated Must Watch

With all the dramas that “Flex X Cop” was airing alongside, I’ve seen this get the least amount of traction online. However, after finishing the drama, I can say that even with the simplest premise, the drama overdelivers in all the right aspects. Although I cannot comment on the original Russian drama, i.e. “Silver Spoon”, it’s adapted from, here are my views on FXC:
1. Plot (9.5/10)- Seemingly very simple but containing multiple layers to it. I found that I could very well guess most of the “killers” in the drama and yet, it did not interfere with my experience of it. The series only built up my excitement for the coming scenes as I enjoyed a very expressive performance from the cast.
2. Cinematography (9/10)- With excellent wide, mid and close shots, the dramas also switches from a few different views to provide the sense of urgency and detail orientation that these cases, as mentioned in the drama, require.
3. Acting (10/10)- With a cast of wonderful actors and actresses who can capture your attention, physically and emotionally, the drama manages to keep the viewers engaged and hyped.

The Beauty of “Flex X Cop”: Well, the beauty of FXC lies not on the surface but the portrayal of one finding their own path and forming a community, a family. What stuck with me the most is that despite having started on the wrong foot, our ragtag team of police officers ended up testing each others’ limits and turning out to support each other.

If You Like That, Watch This: If you enjoyed having to uncover the complicated familial bonds in “He is Psychometric”, the varied kinds of cases that the teams deals with in “Taxi Driver” and the trilling fights and puzzles in “Big Mouth”, you’re sure to enjoy this drama.
Also, for the ones who’ve watched FXC but have missed out any of the ones I mentioned above, be sure to give them a go. I’m sure you’ll find them engaging and exciting.

xx

It gets better and better!!

This got everything! Recently kdramas have been having bad ending/second halves.. but This one, Not! Fast paced! The plot is interesting, perfect! You'll guess who the main villain (last episodes) that's the only minus! The slow burn is perfect for me! I really love drama where romance is subplot! The second drama i really enjoyed in 2024 from first episode to last (after Pyramid Game)

It's fun, interesting, intriguing and Perfect! I love how each episode ends! Wish we got to see more of the after 2 lead again (Joon Young and Kyung Jin!!

Waiting for season 2

Boy Wonder ✨️ Batman's Bratty Lil Bro °8.5° °Excellent°

“Everyone has their own task in their life. But I've never believed that.” It opens up dark and foggy. It's creepy. It looks more like a horror film. “Living with no purpose was not that bad. But now, a question was thrown into my life. Now I start my journey to find an answer.”

After that opening we jump back 2 mos. It's bright. It's colorful. Sparkly jazz is playing while bloody Marys are pouring. Su ditches the board meeting in the morning, telling his butler he needs to sleep more. He forces that butler to watch a clip of him swimming with the sharks. He looks like another worthless rich guy, a spoiled brat without a care in the world. Before he goes back to sleep, however, he gets a notification. There's been a kidnapping! The next thing we see is that he's on the SWAT team - Is he Batman? Is he a rich do-gooder, who appears aimless, but actually fights crime on the sly with the vast resources available at his fingertips? Nah, this is
the dress-up/role-play swat team. This guy doesn't work hard, but he plays hard. This isn't a spoiler ~ we're still under 10 minutes in.

Soon we cut to real cops (Violent Crimes Investigative Team 1) chasing a real criminal. In the vicinity, our ML, Jin I “Su”, has to defend himself against an assailant, but all Hy the cop sees, when she catches up to the action, is Su assaulting someone. He's arrested - Our leads meet that way. Su's chair-dad finds out about the arrest from a reporter. ~ At his press conference ~ He was attempting to announce his candidacy for Mayor of Seoul when he's blindsided by the news. He angrily vows to disown Su… Until the police realize during the course of their investigation that Su actually captured a murderer. He did not commit assault: It was self-defense. Su's father, the chairman, is furious once again, and the police are squirming because they're in a lot of trouble. They work out a win-all-around solution: the police will say that Su's been a cop for 2 months and worked with them to capture this murderer. Now, e’erbody happy. Everybody except Su's “co-workers” and the reporter that is now accused of making a false report, as he released the story that Sue had been arrested. So now….

Su's on the force. The cops are forced to work with him. But they're hoping he never actually shows up to work.

FXC is a 2024 release that is rated 90 on AWiki. It is 1 season consisting of 16 70-minute episodes. It's plenty typical and formulaic, but if you go for cop shows that incorporate humor with a couple surprises, you'll likely enjoy this. I certainly did. The episode about hypnosis is a little bit weak, but all-in-all, one can't ask for more from a cop-edy drama. It's really good - They could turn this into a franchise. The cases are interesting and well conceived. Apparently, S2 has already been announced.

Ahn Bo Hyun (Kairos, See You in My 19th Life) plays the rich & spoiled Su. He's been shows that I loved: Her Private Life-8, My Only Love Song-8.7, & Descendants of the Sun-8.3. He was in a show that I liked: My Runway-7.5, and one that I hated: My Name-5.7. He's completely different in everything, so he's as versatile as he is good looking - and he is a specimen. Su inhabits a world that is entirely unfamiliar to the police. He has an advantage when it comes to investigating people of wealth and status as the son of the chairman - the /illegitimate/ son. Therefore, his stepmother despises him. Su might seem obnoxious at first, but he's a kind-hearted and delightful person. He's a touch carefree, even careless, but he doesn't have a mean bone in his body. His mother died when he was about 7. He has no memory of it, but he's told it was a car accident. His father is concerned that “he'll get his memories back”.

Park Ji Hyun (Love All Play, Reborn Rich) is Lee Gang Hyeon/”Hy”. She's not the most feminine female. Dad, also a decorated detective, is her drinking buddy. She's positively rough… and RUDE, and she despises Su. Her everyday look is so utilitarian that it was jolting to see her dressed up for a sting operation. She looks great. As mature as she seems, she's actually 6 years younger than her co-star. Ahn Bo Hyun must have some amazing genetics, because he looks like he could play a high school kid, still.

Kang Sang Jun (Marry My Husband, Doctor Slump) is hardboiled detective Park Jun Yeong, who has been alongside Hy since the academy. He seems overly interested in, and overprotective of her. He doesn't try to hide his disdain for Su. Kim Shin Bi (Journey to the Shore, Revenant) is the friendly junior detective and social media follower of Su, Choi Gyeong Jin. Jung Ga Hee (Longing for You,The Glory) plays medical examiner Yun Ji Won. I love this ME. She's got a dry wit, a great attitude, and she's funny. Jokes coming out of the autopsy room sort of write themselves. In one scene she puts a decayed rice cake that supposedly choked someone to death on the metal tray. She then takes a fresh one, bites it, and puts it on the tray next to the one she extracted from the deceased's throat, showing how the one from the dead body was obviously cut, not bitten. Point made, she picks up the one she had started eating off of the tray and pops it in her mouth. The delivery was perfect. I laughed out loud. Ms Jung has a short resume, and I look forward to seeing her more. Her credits are sure to accumulate as she is absolutely darling.

Director: Kim Jae Hong - He's a rock star. His most recent 4 efforts: FXC, Revenant, Through the Darkness, & Begins Youth are all rated 8.7 on MDL. He has 7 other credits; 3 in the 7.5-7.8 range and 4 in the 6.6-7.3 bracket. Not a dud in a bunch. Screenwriter: Kim Ba Da of A Man Who Was Superman & the popular My Name-5.7, which I didn't care for at all.

The cops do everything they can to keep Su on the sidelines, but he's just not the kind of guy to sit quietly in the corner. The next couple episodes deal with him proving himself. They're going to have to work with him, they realize. Money makes the day-to-day stuff easier (being a cop sure is costing Su a fortune), but it can really mess up relationships. That's the theme. Speaking of wealth, Su questions a wealthy person of interest at a tanning salon. Given that Kdramas are so pasty skinned my jaw dropped and I haven't found it yet. This is the first tanning bed I've seen in a Kdrama.

His stepmother is so abhorrent that he ends up moving back to the house where he lived with his mom, only to find out that Hy now lives across the street. This creates situations where he must interact with her parents. “For your information, this will be salty. I recommend not eating it.” So Hy advises when she delivers the kimchi that her mother forced her to bring over. (It took 3 days of nagging but she finally caved in). And that’s why Hy crossed the road ~ maybe the chicken was following her.

Will the seeds of romance bloom in S2? They aren't there yet, and they have more than one road to cross.

She's drab. Oh, how his presence must hurt her eyes! Lime. Plum. Lemon. Tangerine. Grape. His clothes are colorful, bright, expensive, and capital-F-Flashy. He's a peacock. Her car is really messy. She's more dude than chick. He comments on a sticky brown residue in the cup holder. “Oh, I spilled coffee yesterday.” Unsatisfied, he presses further: “Didn't you clean it up?” Her unfazed answer: “I did” Unconvinced, he responds: “Do you have a tissue or anything?” She looks around, “Use this.” She hands him a piece of /junk mail/. Only someone who's lived like a slob or has been around a slob would be able to write that. That's too authentic. It cracked me up.

Her Oma falls in love with Su first. Perhaps that's because she sees a potential mate for her rapidly aging daughter. There's nice juxtaposition when he's at his family's home for a press interview. Afterwards, dinner is being laid out, but stepwitch informs him that they are /not/ setting a place for him. When he gets home, Hy's mother insists that he come over and have dinner with them.

They have to do a stake-out which means spending even more time with eachother. That's followed up by an undercover operation where they are forced closer together. Su has things to work through before he can give all to a relationship. As we get to know Su, it becomes obvious that his cavalier attitude is the way he deals with pain. He's got some trauma that he's never dealt with. He's locked it away under the surface as evinced by his reoccurring dream about a painting of a woman submerged in water. Hy starts to hear from people (her father and a psychiatrist, for example) to be wary of Su: He's a ticking time bomb, she's warned. Halfway through the show, he gets his memory back.

Be that as it may, Hy will be the last one to deal with her own feelings. Most of S1 sees her on the fence as to whether she can tolerate Su at all. She wrote up a brutal recommendation to release him from the force, and it sits in her desk drawer. This mindset leads to amusing scenes, for example, when they're about to do a group arrest. She's handing out guns to everyone on the team. Su puts out his hand. Hy gives him handcuffs. There's NO WAY she's giving him a gun. Naturally, /he's/ the one that ends up saving the day and slapping the handcuffs on the perp. Later on, we see that he's had them gold-plated! You can't beat a guy with optimism (and resources) like that. You might as well tune in, then: You know if you can't beat ‘em, you might as well join ‘em!

Now this is how detective dramas should be

Ik one thing I'll be coming back to this drama again and again. Seriously, Kdrama industry take some notes on how to make detective dramas and how to give something new to the audience.

The plot and trailer at first didn't look that promising but woahh this one served me a 7-course meal in 5 stars Michelin hotel !!
Starting was pretty good... not too over the top not too mehh... It looked like another drama with Chaebol heir just doing nothing or doing everything with no real detective work but I'm so glad I was completely wrong.

This drama has everything character development, good detective work, multiple cases with a really good backstory for even small cases, and best of all the plot and the cast! first, let's go with the plot and storyline

It was catchy, it was consistent in giving us mystery and cases, it was well-solved cases and an amazing writing. At first, I was soo biased towards Insoo thinking that the team was not good and he was the only one solving everything but as it progressed I was able to see why the team was so hesitant to accept and how they each had things they're good in. It was perfect for me coz even non-chaebol when you 1st join it takes time to build up trust and get better teamwork and here it was shown perfectly. And when they got each other's trust and adjusted well boom they worked soo perfectly together. They all had many character development even side characters I would say.

This is the only drama where they didn't relate and connect the trauma of FL and ML even when they had a big chance to do so. Both of them got a good story and time to deal with their things. No backstabbing by the team, side character police whole can arrest their superior, no childhood forgotten meetup, everyone using their brain and best of all politician who takes accountability and resign instead of scheming, This dram broke soo many stereotypes that I'm blown away.

I don't have enough words to appreciate the acting of everyone. On-the-spot expression, delivering the right emotions and line like seriously idk what to say. And of course the production and choice of props and set... I'm telling you the best drama ever.

Idk if I can ever like any detective drama more than this one.
I'll update this once the last two eps release but I'm sure the rating won't change .. I trust this drama for that

“I have a favor to ask.”

A rich chaebol ends up being a cop after a mishap and flexes his way into the team and cases by asking for a favor.

Strengths:
- Unique plot and brilliant storyline.
- Cases were unique and engaging.
- The culprit at many times was predictable, but the process of collecting evidence was too entertaining, especially from the perspective of the rich heir.
- Strong team dynamics and chemistry.
- Amazing soundtracks and great acting by the cast.

Weakness:
- The last case was too predictable and ends up being a drawback to the drama.
- The conglomerate storyline flows with familiar K-drama patterns.

Overall, very good and engaging, binge-worthy drama. recommended if you want to watch a good detective drama where the possibility of money comes into play.

upbeat nice drama

whats so good about this drama is that as the episodes go on they get alot more interesting regarding character development and the plot gets stronger and deeper, things developed from upbeat to tragic smoothly until he ended solving his own case .
when i started watching i thought the hyung is such a huge vibe i needed someone like this in my life (but since I've seen this before i knew right away that he's too good to be true because writers love to screw things up )
i'm sorry but , Who ever did jin isoo styling deserve a punch in the face his fashion is bad where do they even find those shirts .
since i watched the first two episodes i thought it was on the less mature side and not to My taste maybe but for younger viewers ,i love the versatility of the stories and Characters .
they could've picked someone else to be the Main actress i find her unsatisfying. (my point of view though)

Definitely a masterpiece

I want to watch this because the ost sing by LUCY, but it's the best drama ever I'd ever watch. Yisoo's character really connect to my heart, other characters development in the story progress flawlessly. Crime plot also done so well in the story. The plot twist are not disappointed also, gladly his assistant really loyal to him until the end.

Is team-mance a word?

Well, if it's not, it should be. Or at least after season 1 of "Flex X Cop" it should be.

It's easy to find grievances here. They tend to be very upfront. First, the name is dumb. The marketing poster is a mess. The theme song is so cheap and grating. The whole opening credit sequence actually is awful. And the first impression that Ahn Bo Hyun makes as Jin Yi Soo is [grimacing emoji]. It's such a caricature of a shallow, arrogant, entitled rich brat that is falls flat. And speaking of flat, Jang Hyun Sung as the conglomerate chairman just quite can't deliver the gravitas of that role and never seems like the deeply emotionally torn person that the character he's portraying is meant to be.

Oh? And the name. THE NAME. Why is it Flex? Why is there an X? Did the producers just pull random words and letters out of a bag to determine the name? It's just so dumb.

But the heart of the show is pure 24 karat gold. Kim Shin Bi and Kang Sang Jun don't get loads of lines but their characters, the young somewhat naive and excitable one and not quite as young hard-nosed and stern one, are the perfect complements to each other and to the lead characters. Park Ji Hyun is flat out strong as Kang Hyun. Her character is the violent crime team leader and she's almost all business all the time. In the moments when she's not in work mode, she's still tough and direct and no nonsense. Even in the solitary scene where she is comforting Yi Soo, it's not explicitly tender or sweet.

And the whole production works because Ahn Bo Hyun is playing Yi Soo. Despite the first impression, once this actor and character have settled in to this complex role, the combination flat out slays. Beneath the couture wardrobe and expensive cars and luxury watches, is a man that is deeply broken and intensely driven and fairly insightful with just enough self-awareness. Although it's probably not a serious enough role to warrant award consideration, it's a role tailor made for Ahn Bo Hyun's sheer physical size and his rare ability to alternate between blazing cockiness and tender vulnerability.

There's some nicely written mysteries for the violent crime team to solve early on as Yi Soo works his way in to a role within the team. Some are more credible but the one that is the least believable somewhat validates itself at the end with a dramatic scene between Yi Soo and Kang Hyun. Eventually, the overall arc meanders back to Yi Soo's personal backstory and conglomerate family and the violent crime team fades somewhat to the background. While it's still an entertaining arc, when the focus spotlights Yi Soo alone, the magic of the chemistry between the four team members is lost.

Fortunately, while much of the last few episodes is entangled with Yi Soo's family shenanigans, the final episode balances things back with a sensational, touching montage, a not-so-unexpected twist and setting up what will hopefully be a season two that continues this team-mance (someone please contact Merriam Webster and have this added immediately) at the same level of excellence.

So while the opening credits should be skipped highly recommend just about everything else.

A complete ingredient drama

I never expect that I would love this drama. I can say that it was nicely done the story is quiet promoting. Every episode is more promising and the story gets more better.
Isoo belongs to rich family and become famous because he is one of the son in Hansu Group and hits the social media in storm because of the extreme sports he has done.
One day he has chosen to become a cop because he has once become a private detective using his wealth to capture bad guys without him knowing that he will become a real detective once he has appointed.
He become dedicated by it and of course he is using his wealth and charm by it, its one of the reason why it is funny.
One day as he was solving a case he bumped into the old case of the death of his mother. It is painful and believed who did it. Although he catch the real culprit a little too late but he still achieved the justice that he needed.
