Silly, goofy, and imaginative rom-com for kid-ish adults!

.
Disclaimer: At this point in time, I have only completed two episodes of this drama. I will comeback once this drama finishes to finalise my review.

OVERALL

To explain, this show feels like a third-rate cinderella story in the best way possible (I promise this is a compliment). It reminds me of the narrative style often employed by Japanese shows. It's refreshing and imaginative. A light-hearted and fun drama with minimal seriousness. The cherry on top, is our two beloved leads and their superior acting skills.

I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who hates romance and comedy because that is the very essence of this show. Still, I am not a fan of rom-coms and is an avid lover of thrillers but I enjoyed this drama so far.

STORY

The premise is the well known and heavily overused story of a modern cinderella but with a refreshing twist. Although, this is your average couple dynamic of a rich man and poor woman, from the short snippet I've watched, I can already tell that the characters are though out and have gone beyond surface level. A female lead that actually wants to be a Cinderella and a male lead with an actual personality other than being a "tsundere" (cold on the outside, soft on the inside). The first impression you get is that both leads are your run-off-the-mill crackheads. They are bound to cause trouble wherever they go together (in a humorous way).

Jae-Rim's (the female lead) story is a mirroring of Cinderella's story. Jae-Rim's father passes away leaving her at the mercy of her step-mother and two step-sisters. The twist is that once you take an inside look into their family you can see that Jae-Rim's not a typical cinderella. Jae-Rim's step-mother is actually nice (albeit clueless) and her step-sisters are nothing more than typical siblings. However, this dynamic lets the audience look at one of Jae-Rim's flaws, she somewhat seems to force her situation to fit a Cinderella story.

Then comes Cha-Min (a literal pun to Prince Charming) who hates Cinderellas. However, he's different from your average jerk male leads that hate true love or their future love interest for no reason. He's not a holier-than-thou figure or a typical boss on their high horse. Cha-Min is close with his employees and purses a good work balance. He's a bit fcked in the head (but are well all also a little fcked in the head).

In contrast to your typical K-dramas, this drama spares on time on the romance. First episode in and you practically dive head in to romance in the most hilarious and nonchalant way.

I can already feel that this drama is going to be an absolute hilarious and sweet gem.

ACTING & CAST

The first thing I have to say is that I started watching this drama for Pyo Ye-Jin and Lee Jun-Young (Jun) and I am going to continue watching this drama for Ye-Jin and Jun.

Ye-Jin and Jun are two of my favourite actors. They are experts at playing silly goofy characters with serious back stories. I absolutely adore Jun and will watch anything and everything he is in. I strongly think that both Ye-Jin and Jun are severely underrated actors. I hope to see them in many more lead roles across different genres.

I can't think of any two better people to play these two leading roles. Their chemistry is off the charts. They really do give twin troublemaker vibes.

CINEMATOGRAPHY & EDITING/ DIRECTING

I actually love the format of this drama. It gives me 2010's J-drama/ J-movie vibes. The narration is over exaggerated and expressive. It does feel like your reading a comedy spin-off of your favourite fairytales (which it literally is). It's colourful and seemingly childish. It gives you nostalgic feelings about your own childhood imagination. It almost allows the audience to enjoy kid things in an adult way. All of this, truly adds and emphasises the premise of the story. They've added colourful and comical scenes, that make it even more novel-like. I guess, these scenes remind me of Japanese variety shows (mostly the romance ones). This style of 2000s - 2010s style of format has not been seen in the K-drama industry for long time. So, it's refreshing and new.

thank you for reading my review!! have a nice day <333

10 episodes of substance are better than 16 of boring developments. An entertaining roller coaster!

Must watching.
I've never written a review but I have to because this rating isn't right.
YES, this is a low budget drama - n° of episodes, duration, scenery, cast and script (in some points) - BUT honestly it's also thanks to this that it's fast, fun, entertains you from start to finish, zero useless stories or scenes in 2x.
They did the best work they could, result: AMAZING.
The chemistry between the protagonists is fantastic, the plot seems like a cliché but it is developed in an original way and focuses on them, full of highlights, twists and fluttering moments: a healing drama and a roller coaster of emotions!
I saw it in one night, rewatch guaranteed.
I needed this after series with 15/16 useless eps
For me it's a YES, I recommend!!!!

What happens if you order Queen of Tears from Temu

I wanted to love this show, I'm a fan of the actress. She's so cute and she and the FL of Queen of Tears both appeared in Lovestruck in the City. This show, however, was not the better of the two. The comedy and cringe is just so bad. After watching over 100 K and C dramas by now, I have gotten used to it. But by and large, many of the newest shows, especially those that are financed and backed by netflix have learned how to properly tackle serious dramas. This doesn't mean we've dropped the comedic laughter; it's just been sprinkled on that it becomes an enjoyable but brief escape from the mature scenes we are starting to get used to. It's important not to forget the audience that put your genre on the map. We owe a lot to these tropes. But sometimes, a drama is trapped in that purgatory of staying perpetually in that cringe state. Sadly, this happened here.

It was incredibly hard to get past the 3rd episode. Not only is there so much cringe, but many scenes literally turn cartoonish. Now remember that this is the same writer from Bong-soon, so you could say that I'm used to this. But even Bong-soon didn't go this far off the deep end. What's worse is that there is no chemistry between the leads. And so many things aren't explained. We have no idea what line of work the ML actually holds. We learn he provides a sort of amusement park for the wealthy. They're allowed to be "kids again" or such. It's never fully explained, and the plot holes pile on after this. If this is truly a wealthy class escape, why do we barely see no more than 10 characters visiting the place at once? For better reference, think of King the Land. It does a much better explanation, and it is literally doing the same thing here. But like I said, Dreaming just seems to perpetually stay in the comedic side, without properly explaining scenes.

There's also the miscommunication trope here. The ML simply doesn't want to reveal his feelings. In fact, he doesn't do so until the last few episodes. By then, it's already too late, and I found myself relieved that the show was nearly over. In another instance, his mother comes back briefly, and we get a somewhat confusing story on why she left in the first place. His parents reconcile immediately, despite a 20 plus year gap and even more questions left unanswered. If you're as confused as I am, imagine watching it.

The only savings grace, like I pointed out earlier, is the female lead. She's beautiful. You can tell she tries her hardest with what little she can work with. Sadly, there are just too many things working against her. Anyhoo, in conclusion, if you can handle large amounts of cringle with an incomprehensible script, you might find something here to pass the time. But there are far better dramas out there, even mediocre ones that respect your time.

FOLLOW THE STEREOTYPES

Strictly for female audiences

The synopsis which introduces the male character before the female character will lead you to believe the is equal focus between the male and female character. But the title should give you an idea that this is not for everyone and is strictly for female audiences.
The premise will remind you of those M&B and BC pocket books your mother used to read on her free time. Poor female pining for a change in her circumstances and an aloof rich male trying to make his mark.
FL characters and their situation in those old novels is probably what birthed the present term "strong independent woman".
FLs goal for working is not to earn money to survive but to meet a rich male she can marry who can turn the tide of her life whether that's what it means to be a strong independent woman I'll leave it to someone else to figure out.

I'm dropping the series because I have no room despairing over someone else's miserable life - I watch dramas in order to get a respite from the realities of life not to see other people suffering more than I am.

A love story which fits the taste of modern time

Introduction

A modern fairy tale where Prince Charming is obnoxious and only focuses on protecting his money. Cinderella is not hard-working but is focusing on finding his Prince Charming to leave her sad and pathetic life.
Jae Rim is suffocating in her poverty-stricken life. She lives with her stepmother who is expecting a child with her late father and two step sisters who are not vicious. She joins as a manager of the social club run by Cha Min to meet a prospective groom. But she ends up finding herself falling for the confused and irrational Cha Min who has been shelved due to his own demon.

Review

Helmed by Kim Min Kyung, the modern-day take on the fairy tale is the perfect sauce to serve with a main dish. Jae Rim is not a no-nonsense heroine but is realistic. She admits to being not good at anything and looking for a shortcut to change her life. Her outlook towards her grief-stricken life justifies her action when she goes beyond the limit for the director who enters through the door. But she is not a poor judge of characters. Cha Min who was scarred at a very early age of his life is dragged down by his grief-stricken father who demotivates him every time he looks for love. His confusion builds up his hesitation which forbids him from feeling truly happy.

This modern take on fairy tale keeps true to the new arch. Cinderella does not have a vicious stepmother, but instead, someone who is more busy living a peaceful life. Stepsisters do not invest energy in ruining their lives, they are building their own stories in the process. As Prince Charming is not looking around for Cinderella with shoes, a snob yet solace-seeking second hero takes in the scene. The director and scriptwriter make the story logical and sound given it is 2024. People do not fall in love blindly anymore but look out for the person who feels them and makes them feel better as humans. Cha Min and Jae Rim both have been broken by the challenges of life. It is peace and comfort which their heart has been seeking. They are looking for the person before whom they can be real.

Pyo Ye Jin, the Moon in the Day girl is back with another heartbreaking love. She fits in the shoes of modern-day Cinderella who does not wait for the prince to come and take her away. She goes to find him on her own. Like her previous character, Ye Jin adds a nuance in her Jae Rim who does not flinch. She makes the heroine adorable and challenging at the same time. Lee Jun Young got a lightheaded graph after his grey shade in The Impossible Heir. His Cha Min is wronged and he is still harboring that wounded child inside him. He illustrated the strength of Cha Min in the scene of his interaction with his mother who has been seeking forgiveness after all this while. Kim Hyun Jin who donned the second lead again after his successful rendezvous in Cheer Up did a brilliant job in his few minutes of screen space. From a ladder-riding director to love smitten hero, he leaves a charm that makes you want more of him. Supporting casts of Song Young Joo, Kim Chae Eun, and Ryu Seoong Soo did a great job in pulling the story.

Conclusion

This is a time when we do not believe in fairy tales anymore. As our hearts are getting hardened, stories like freaking fairy tales come in as breakthroughs. Meeting Cha Min is not just our secret desire but a fresh wind that reminds us to breathe wholeheartedly once in a while.
