It is a mess. The first half of this movie made me so confused that I had to convince myself to keep watching. I watched after reading the synopsis and I can honestly say that it didn't prepare me for what the movie was actually about. The only redeeming quality about this film are its main actors. Yang Mi was the reason why I didn't close the video and Deng Chao was the reason why I managed to finish. If you're going to see this movie then I suggest that you bring lots of patience. It'll be worth it.
The first 50 minutes or so of this movie were irritating for a couple of reasons. Number one...it was culturally offensive. This movie came out in 2014 so it gets no excuses; what they did would not be received well by an international audience at all. Number two...you really needed to be paying attention to understand what was going on. Like I said the beginning of this film is a mess. I don't mind putting effort into watching a movie and figuring out what's going on, but this was just messy. It was hard to figure out what was going on until the second half when the movie finally stopped trying so hard to be 'different' and 'funny'.
But I'm so glad that I stuck around. This just got so much better, and so much funnier. Deng Chao did a great job, he made me laugh and almost cry. I got used to this movie's world after a while. It was definetly shot in an interesting way, somewhat different from what other movies with similar plots have done. Most of the characters ( aka everyone but our breakup guru ) were really 1D and didn't offer much. I can't help but think that this movie could have done with a couple more minutes and added some character development. The ending was cliche, but it was the kind of ending this movie deserved.
It definetly isn't something I'd re-watch. Suffering through the beginning is definetly not worth it. I'd rather remember it for the gem (?) that it became and leave it at that. Would I recommend this...? Not to everyone.

Well Written Comedy
This movie...is definitely an interesting one. Just like many, it started off pretty confusing but soon gets a bit better as we know why this happened. Since this is a non spoilery sort of review, then I wont go on explaining what the story about but one grand thing I like about this movie is its comedy. Does reminds of Stephen Chow sort of mou lei tow style of comedy. Throughout the whole movie, I can say I had laughed almost 80% of it. Now of course, this movie does still have a story and some serious moments. Well, if you want to know more, feel free to watch it yourself. Like many, it is a fast pace movie, so we will have to try to make sense of out of every move on point to understand the movie, which is ok for me. Oh yes one more thing, the number of special guests in this movie is pretty interesting. As for acting, ML nails it on POINT. He is able to express each expressions perfectly. As for FL, I am suprised that she can do comedy movies so well, cause usually the shows I watch from her are pretty serious. The chemistry and the sense of connection between ML and FL is also Interesting.
Musicwise, I kinda like the ending song but am a bit confused on the end credits scenario, guess its just to show of some bonus comedy bts and etc...hmm i am not clear too haha
Rewatch Value? well, depends on my mood then, if I feel like watching something crazy, or just for fun but definitely I will rewatch somewhere in the future.
All in all, I enjoy the acting, storyline, and the chemistry between ML and FL. And yea...

So bad it's funny
The movie starts with a Chinese guy in black face... so badly done his chin falls off (yes, you read that right). During the movie, they manage to offend literally every demographic I can think of. Lots of scenes reminiscent of Looney Tunes. You have to pay attention because they skip forward frequently, and you're the one who has to work to figure out what the context is. ML did a good job with lots of surprise twists, and all the other characters fit 1D stereotypes so no surprises from them (they could have been Looney Tunes characters). You're never quite sure what's real, or what's going to come next. I enjoyed it, but likely won't rewatch unless I'm in the mood for something this crazy again.Vond je deze recentie nuttig?
