They are jerks, why we love them? Part Un

In our daily lives we encounter people who just make our insides boil.  People who make us dream with the day that we may slap some sense into them. Those people are what we call 'jerks'.  But, what is a jerk anyway?  What makes them that way? And why in heaven or earth do we love those cold hearted jerks that break our hearts so many times? Seriously, why in hell do we love them? They are rude, mean, bullies, bossy...but somehow, we hate love them anyway.

Now we know what the heck a jerk is.  They exist in real life and in drama land.  Actually, drama land can’t exist without them.  So, every time I start watching a drama, I ask myself what kind of jerk our heroine is going to save today? Our heroine like a “knight in shining armor” will steal that cold, dead, very damaged heart.  Make it alive again, a la Frankenstein and witness our hero becomes a great man.  After all “behind every great man, there is a woman telling him what to do”.  Just saying!!!

After watching a few dramas I come to realize that sometimes our hero is a very insecure damaged man.  He can be a Chaebol or rule a freaking country.  Or be the CEO or President of one of the most powerful and biggest companies in the country. Or be a hot shot lawyer or the hottest Hallyu star/actor/singer in town…but does NOT have the guts or the confidence to accept that he falls in love with our girl nor to say “I LIKE YOU” a la Will Smith’s Hitch.  But to really understand the jerk, you have to know all the details of his life and how he lived all this time.  Now I ask myself:

• How did he grow up?
• How did he become like that?
• Did he get kidnapped? Did he get into a car accident and fall in a river, and is now afraid of water? I know this one!
• Did he get kidnapped and is now haunted by a ghost? "He just needs a little sun"
• Did he get bit by a radioactive spider? Hmmm seems legit!
• Did his fiancee leave him for another man after a marriage proposal? ~that cold hearted b#$@% *smacks hand* ~Angel behave~
• Did his fiancee leave him saying that his "gangster dad" is damaging her reputation?  And the song says: "Why do you build me up just to let me down?"
• Did his fiancee leave him after a car accident that destroyed his leg, only to come back 3 years later with another man?  "oh the memories this one brings"
• Did his mother abandon him, telling him that she lose her love because of him. And this make him so angry he never trusts anyone afterwards? "Silence, Piggy rabbit!"
• Did his father never hug him or show him love?
• Did his father beat him to the point of getting amnesia?  "Panda...Saranghae"
• Did his super Grinch mother slap him like there is no tomorrow on an elevator?  I remember this one, super funny!
• Did he get trapped in an elevator, which ultimately lead to being traumatized by the event?  "tsk, tsk don't tell your secrets"
• Did his father smack him in an elevator?  - What is it with people and elevators?
• Is he the sibling of the God of Mischief?
• Did Odin save him from the ice monsters and adopt him as his son? -Wait, what?
• Did his parents die at the hands of a thief; thus resulting in him becoming a masked vigilante?  "na, na" 
• Blah blah blah blah...

There are so much theories and variants of the kinds of jerks that reside in Dramaland. That is why I want to analyze why the hell we hate to love these jerks. And as a special treat, I'll be doing so by asking myself, "If he were a song, which one he would be?"




A. Why we hate him?

• He lacks polite manners.
• He loves money more than anything else.
• He often tells Gong Sil to leave and yells at her.
• He measures a person based on the size of his/her wallet.
• He is so cold, it makes me wonder if he is the cousin of the iceberg that sunk the Titanic.
• He wants for our heroin to pay him for using his body *coughs* to help her with her problems. Ah he is the only person in the world that can help her.  But asking for money makes him a gigolo??? Well sort of!

B. Why we love him?

• He is brutally honest.
• He is our girl's hideout.
• He has come out of his comfort zone ever since he met our girl.
• He protects her, even when she says she doesn't need it.
• He protects her when people try to bully her.
• He is willing to sacrifice his reputation for her.
• He treats her like a human being and not as a crazy lady. *coughs* Sometimes...

A. Why we hate him?

• Cold as ice.
• Treated Mi Nam like a nuisance.
• Always blames her for everything.

B. Why we love him?

• He was sweet (deep, deep down). Making that Piggy rabbit was delicious.
• When he smiled he looked adorable.
• He followed a truck on foot, because she was on top of it.
• Got electrocuted, Go Mi Nam tripss over him, he got lost in the woods, and got chased by a pig.  Oh man, this one really suffered a lot!  
• When he cried, we all wanted to hug him.  Accept it already. You love him, don’t you?  No *shaking head*
• He got one of the most amazing confessions ever. He sings their song and then says something like this in front of a lot of people: “If you are listening, don’t go in to the darkness, the place I can’t see you.  Let me see you.”  And my fangirl heart exploded!!!

A. Why we hate him?

• He wanted to “scheme” her and take over the Panda Cafe.
• He lied to her (and to us) in his job application.
• He was afraid of telling Panda about his troubled past.

B. Why we love him?

• He taught her how to drive.
• He bought a lot of stuff for the Panda Cafe and makes it successful.
• He was a great chef and his cakes were masterpieces.
• He was an extraordinary friend.
• He was adorable in the relationship he had with his Mentor/Grandpa.
• He risked his life to save the bakery..He had the cutest nickname ever.
• He had a scary tattoo. Sure...

A. Why we hate him?

• He leaves… *sighs* I don't wanna cry...*sobs* too late....
• He makes the girl fall in love with him just for revenge.
• He scared a girl to death in a very creepy way.

B. Why we love him?

• He took care of the kids in an orphanage.
• He loved her until his last breath.
• He protected her (against his own agenda) in every way he could.
• He helps her and Meng He Ping to move on.

A. Why we hate him?

• He was cold, distant, and hostile./He treated everybody like crap.
• He hit the girl....well it was a fight and both of them got hit. Still, that is a no no!
• He humiliated her in every way possible.
• He couldn't let go of his past love.
• He had a porn stash.

B. Why we love him?

• He had a porn stash.
• He knew who she was the moment she needed him the most.  And that is good enough for me!

A. Why we hate him?

• He got in a scandal with his ex in another country. *face palm* After his wedding.   *double face palm* Bastard! *with disgust*
• He treated our girl like a pest.
• He always doubted her feelings.
• He was the KING of misunderstandings.  Seriously? If you have any doubt just freaking ask!!! *sighs*
• He never understood why the girl always runs to the “other guy”.  Because all the time you were pushing her aside, of course she would run to the other guy. Geez!  *rolling eyes*  *boom* An my brain just exploded...

B. Why we love him?

• He took control of his life and his actions.
• He opened up to her without realizing it.
• He defied a whole kingdom for love.  And with that he had me at 'Hello'!
