I am not music-biased when it comes to movies, but with these movies I had a lot of fun laughing. These are movies you can watch alone, with family, and/or friends. Kids will love them too (I think). So, here are more recommendations for this weekend.

Swing Girls

Country: Japan     Year: 2004     Genre: Comedy, Youth, School, Music

Synopsis: A class in an all-girls school gets classes in the middle of the summer. One day, the main character, Tomoko Suzuki, gets the school brass band sick. As punishment, she and her classmates have to substitute for the band and play jazz instruments for the first time in their lives. This even leads them to  play in an audition concert. During the audition process the girls experience and learn a lot about music, but in an extremely funny way.

Why you should watch: This movie is terribly funny. There are many things that girls can relate to in it, like being clumsy sometimes or eating a lot on bad days. It's a movie that you can watch alone, with friends, or with family. But it's more a movie for a girl's night where you can laugh like a lunatic.

Kamikaze Girls

Country: Japan     Year: 2004     Genre: Friendship, Comedy

Synopsis: Two girls who are totally opposites: one likes cute stuff and dresses as a lolita, the other almost always shouts and isn't scared of a fight. Momoko needs help to able to buy her lolita clothes and Ichigo needs help to get out of her gang.

Why you should watch: Ichigo is so funny! She headbutts Momoko once in a while and shouts at her all the time, while Momoko keeps calm and acts like a lolita. It's one of many Japanese movies I've seen that shows typical Japanese humor.

Check it Out, Yo! (Chekaraccho!!)

Country: Japan     Year: 2006     Genre: Music, Youth, Comedy

Synopsis: A quartet of high school friends start a hip-hop group out of admiration for a rapper whose concert they attend. They decide to perform in their hometown. Will they be able to pull it off, whatever comes their way in this last summer together?

Why you should watch: The movie is set in the summer, but that doesn't matter. It's the funny interactions of these friends that made me want to go through on the roller-coaster of this story. Extremely funny! For some, it'll be a fun movie with cute guys, for others one that makes them remember their youth in the summers of high school.
