KeyEast, who is also known as a content studio powerhouse, announced their first lineup of dramas for 2021.
In 2020 alone, the company made a remarkable achievement in producing six dramas through various channels. KeyEast kicked off the year with SBS drama "Hyena" starring Kim Hye Soo and Joo Ji Hoon, tvN's "Psychopath Diary" also released in January, then with Netflix Original's "The School Nurse Files" in September, "My Dangerous Wife" on MBN channel in October, co-produced "Live On" with Playlist in November and wrapped up the year as they introduced JTBC's "Hush" with main leads Hwang Jung Min and Im Yoon Ah.
Just like last year, KeyEast will also produce high quality dramas this 2021. The company announced four dramas on their lineup.
1) Title: "Ask The Stars"
"Ask The Stars" will be written by Seo Sook Hyang, who also wrote the popular dramas "Pasta" and "Jealousy Incarnate". It will be Korea's first space drama and the writer has been preparing it for 3 years. Budget for the said romantic comedy drama is 40 billion Korean won (Approximately $36 million US dollars) including the construction of space station sets. They are also working hard in casting top stars to target overseas fans as well.
2) Title: "A Wonderful Sight"
"A Wonderful Sight" will be the collaboration work of director Lee Jung Heum (who also directed "Nobody Knows" and "Falsify") and rookie writer Sung Choi. It will be an action thriller focusing on women. The story will unfold as a female detective in her 40s encounters a former police officer, an incumbent insurance investigator and a female college student killer.
3) Title: "Only One Person"
The third drama is composed of 16 episodes and the story will revolve around the fun and romance in a hospice ward. This will be the first drama in Korea with a hospice setting. It will be directed by "Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo" and "Find Me In Your Memory" PD, Oh Hyun Jong.
4) Title: "Illumination"
Last to be revealed is the upcoming drama entitled "Illumination". Chung Se Rang (who also worked for "The School Nurse Files") will write for this drama. This drama will be a collaboration of KeyEast and SM Entertainment. The story will unveil the world of K-Pop. From the growth and pain of idols to the struggles of professionals surrounding them.
CEO of KeyEast also revealed that they are currently in the last negotiations with not only domestic platforms but also global OTT for the release of these dramas.
