Kim Hye Soo in talks to star in a historical drama after 20 years.
According to several media outlets on July 12th Kim Hye Soo was cast as the main lead for the upcoming tvN black comedy-drama tentatively titled "Shuroop" (Umbrella).
Kim Hye Soo's agency Hodu&U Entertainment responded to the news stating that Kim Hye Soo is positively reviewing the offer.
Set during the Joseon Dynasty, "Shuroop" will tell about the education system that takes place for the top 1% gifted princes within the royal family. The series will depict the Queen's extreme struggles to change troublesome princes within the court.
The upcoming historical drama will be directed by Kim Hyung Sik who also worked for "Secret Door" and "Twenty Again," The script will be written by Park Bara.
Kim Hye Soo was given the offer to play the role of the Queen. If the actress approves, this project will mark her return to the historical drama scene since her 2002 sageuk series "Jang Hee Bin." Meanwhile, other production details are yet to be announced.
Kim Hye Soo recently confirmed to star in the upcoming Netflix series "Juvenile Judgement" with Kim Mu Yeol, Lee Jung Eun, Lee Sung Min, Park Ji Yun, and more. She was also included in the the main cast of the upcoming movie "Smugglers" with Yeom Jung Ah, Jo In Sung and Park Jung Min.
The top actress last starred in the 2020 drama "Hyena" with Joo Ji Hoon. She was also active in the movie scene with "Return" and "The Day I Died: Unclosed Case".
