Kim Tae Ri's stills from tvN's upcoming weekend drama Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born have been unveiled.
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born tells the story of Yoon Jeong Nyeon, a girl with a talent for singing who strives to become the best Gukgeuk (national theatre) actress. The K-drama is set against the backdrop of the immediate aftermath of the Korean War in the 1950s, an era characterized by poverty.
Revenant actress Kim Tae Ri plays the titular role of Yoon Jeong Nyeon. Jeong Nyeon is a singing genius who comes to Seoul, all alone, from Mokpo, determined to become a national theater actress. With a natural vocal tone, rich volume, and a vocal range that lets her effortlessly switch between high and low pitches, Jeong Nyeon has all the foundations of singing.
She is not only characterized by her strong will and tough spirit but also by her warm friendliness, which, combined with her wit and unpretentious nature, allows her to form friendships with anyone easily.
In released stills, Yoon Jeong Nyeon is seen selling fish in a fishing village in Mokpo, filled with the scent of the sea. Another still shows her sitting in the audience watching a national theater performance.
The creators of webtoon Yoon Jeong Nyeon, author Seo Irae and illustrator Na Mon, have expressed exceptional trust in Kim Tae Ri's portrayal of Yoon Jeong Nyeon.
Upon hearing the news that Kim Tae Ri, the actual muse behind the webtoon, had confirmed her appearance, the two expressed their excitement, saying, "We couldn't believe it was actually happening. It still doesn't feel real."
Director Jung Ji In commented, "Yoon Jeong Nyeon, portrayed by Kim Tae Ri, is slightly different from traditional gukgeuk [performer], but has a different kind of charm. She [Kim Tae Ri] performed exceptionally well. I felt like I had met an artist beyond the horizon."
Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born is scheduled to premiere on October 12. More news about the K-drama's global OTT platform is yet to come.
