Due to the tragedy of the Jeju Air passenger plane crash, that happened yesterday in Muan, the MBC Drama Awards 2024 will no longer be held as a live event and will instead be pre-recorded.

On December 30, MBC announced the cancellation of the live broadcast for the MBC Drama Awards 2024, which had been scheduled to air at 8:40 p.m. KST.


Below is the full statement released by MBC:

We extend our deepest condolences to the victims of yesterday's passenger plane accident and their bereaved families.

In light of this tragic incident and to share in the mourning with the nation, the live broadcast of the MBC Drama Awards 2024, originally scheduled for today, December 30 at 8:40 p.m., has been canceled and will be replaced with a pre-recorded broadcast.

This decision was made out of respect for the victims and to stand in solidarity with the grief of their families. We kindly ask for your understanding, and further details regarding the rescheduled broadcast and the announcement of award winners will be provided later.

We pray for the souls of the victims and once again extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

On the morning of December 29 at 9:07 a.m., a Jeju Air flight, 7C2216, flying from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted to land at Muan International Airport but crashed and collided with the runway's outer wall. According to the authorities, it was confirmed that a total of 181 people were on board the passenger plane, including 6 crew members, 173 South Korean passengers, and 2 Thai passengers.
Among them, an alarming 179 people lost their lives, leaving only 2 survivors. A mourning period across the nation of seven days has been declared, that will last until midnight of January 4.
