Song Joong Ki's upcoming K-movie Bogota: City of the Lost unveiled a behind-the-scenes look at its journey to the other side of the globe.
Set against the backdrop of Bogotá, Colombia, Bogota: City of the Lost tells the story of Korean immigrants who, out of desperation, turn to smuggling in this city of last hope. The story takes place in the aftermath of the IMF crisis, following Guk Hee (Song Joong Ki), who travels to Bogotá, Colombia from South Korea, the other side of the globe, with new hope of a better future.
The newly-released video reveals the actors' impressions upon first landing in Colombia, the production process on-site, and the chemistry between the cast.
Song Joong Ki expressed, "I was really excited when I heard we'd be filming in Colombia." Kim Jong Soo shared his hopes, saying, "I hope the feel and ambiance of Colombia are well captured."
Park Ji Hwan added, "The story felt [like it had a] very Korean, yet not entirely Korean." Meanwhile, Jo Hyun Chul shared his personal impression, recalling, "Looking down from the plane, it [the place] was really vast. I thought, maybe Guk Hee [Song Joong Ki] felt the same way upon arriving here."
Director Kim Sung Je explained, "I thought it was very important to have a sense of realism. We avoided special locations and sought out more ordinary spaces," underscoring the team's dedication to capturing the true essence of the local setting.
Song Joong Ki shared his surprise about the costumes, saying, "When the costume director first showed me the outfits, I was surprised. I wondered if they were really appropriate, but once I got to Colombia, I realized they were perfect." He also reflected on his experience performing in Spanish, noting, "Spanish is a language that uses a lot of outward energy, so I ended up using a lot of gestures without realizing it."
Lee Hee Joon shared insights into the filming process, saying, "I received a lot of help on set, and if something didn't sound native, I adjusted it." His remarks highlight his close communication with the Colombian crew, which contributed to enhancing the film's authenticity and overall quality.
Jo Hyun Chul hinted at the complexity of the characters, saying, "All the characters in the film are different at the end compared to the beginning. So I contemplated how to express those points of change," raising expectations for the actors' nuanced performances.
Kwon Hae Hyo described the movie as "a work where you can see exotic scenery and different sides of the wonderful actors."
Lee Hee Joon added, "I hope it comes to you as a good film," while Song Joong Ki expressed, "I hope to meet the audience soon."
