      My Top 10 OST's!

Dramas come in a lot of genres and deliver lots of feelings to us, the watcher. Of course, that’s because of the storyline and the acting, but a lot of things unconsciously contribute to how we perceive what is happening and how we feel about it. And amongst these is: the music.^^ Music is a real mood setter and tells us what can’t be said. It underlines feelings and expressions of the characters and helps deliver those feelings, not only through our eyes but also through the ears, right into our hearts.

And so, I wanna share my top ten drama OST’s with you guys today (* ̄▽ ̄*) – maybe you can relate, but maybe you need to read my reasons first to understand my choices. Actually, my list is much longer, and it was really hard to decide which songs are worthy of being in my top ten. So I sorted them a little by sound, mood and lyrics. For a bigger variety, I picked more asian countries and not just only one.

There are thousands of songs I love to listen - but probably only half of them have outstanding or matching lyrics that shaken up my brain xD. I like when the lyrics are matching with the story and have a meaning. For real, I get goosebumps over it. :D

So here we go:

10. Behind Your Smile

ShiShi – "He isn’t worth it"

„‘I will love you‘ love is like mockery/ don't accept his nonsense/ I will be waiting‘ how ridiculous is love/ it’s him who turned it into a joke/ it's not the incapability of loving/ it's that he's unworthy“

I didn’t even like this drama that much. But when talking about good OST’s, this is what comes up in my mind. The hymn to all women who ever got treated badly by their BF’s! As so often, this drama is about a guy who thinks it’s right to let out his revenge on the daughter of the actual person who hurt him.

And this song says it all! ShiShi’s voice is so beautiful and strong while she is singing about who is worthy of her love and who isn’t. And I love that! Although you can feel she still loves him and is very vulnerable, she stands her attitude, knows what is right and kills with this voice! In contrast to the female lead, who is typically weak and naïve and submissive. xD That’s why it’s ranked only 10th.^^  But I seldom came across those lyrics completed by this special voice. I respect ShiShi a lot.

9. Meet Me @ 1006

Peter Pan – "Winter is coming"

„They can’t shake the dream we fulfilled long time ago“

This is not only one of my favourite OST’s but also one of my favourite dramas. It’s about two people sharing the same room but in a different time, meeting only at 10:06pm, which they are not happy about, but they need to work together to sort things out.

The lyrics are matching to the story. I’m actually really bad at interpreting lyrics xD. But this quote just awakens feelings in my heart. It’s the opening song and already hints the time travel genre. The song is mostly about love, and I like the sound the best.

8. One More Time

L – "One more time"

„Stop, one can't stop us/ Stay, just like you are/ The moment you and I were happy/ One more time, with you again“

Another Time Travel drama ><. I can’t help it. I’m weak against fantasy dramas. This one has a lot of good songs. It’s about a guy turned cold towards his girlfriend because of his circumstances, so he's forced into a time leap to find himself again. Plus some beautiful twists! I really appreciate when the actor is also the singer of the OST’s.^^ And L is a good singer.^^

You see, again the song gives a lot away. But I can say that now, after watching it. It’s like: no one can stop them from being together again as this wasn’t her fault at all and he just needs a second chance to redo it. Here again, I really love the sound/melody. It feels so melancholic and nostalgic. Sad but hopefully with a hidden promise. (≧▽≦) Wow, that’s gonna leave an aftertaste! ;)

7. Just Between Lovers

Zitten – "Opening my eyes"

„Memories that spill down/ Words that endlessly come up/ How can I hold you back?/ I’ll be here.“

Yeaahhh! This song is sooo beautiful as an OST! This drama is about two people whose families suffered from the same accident of a shopping mall years ago. They meet and fall in love, helping each other process what happened in the past, giving each other strength.

This song sounds so sad, but as he gets louder in the refrain, it sounds like screaming out all sufferings and start anew. Woah. Deep shit.^^ He is promising her to be there for her anyway. In the drama, they struggle a lot tho because people around them are afraid they’ll pull each other down with their hurtful memories.

6. TharnType

Kaownah – "Be mine"

„I refuse to let you go with anyone else/ I refuse to walk anyone else beside you/ no matter how long it takes/ I’ll try to make you mine/ I refuse to let anyone else love you.“

Yep, your eyes do not deceive you.^^ TharnType’s OST is in my TOP 10. But let me tell you why: I really love the sound/melody. It’s so catchy, and I wanna bang my head along with it xD. But this time I didn’t get interested because of the meaning of the song in general. But what the song means to the drama. I don’t wanna give away too many spoilers for those who haven’t seen it yet, so I’ll keep it short. The drama is about a homophobic guy (he has his reasons) who has to share a room with a gay guy, who starts chasing for him.

So first you would think the song is about those two. The song is kinda romantic and describes Tharn going for Type. But after a while, there is a twist, and the song gets a whole new meaning, leaving a bitter aftertaste. I was totally fooled. But this is a good song since I enjoy unpredictable things. So I love those two meaning of this song.

5. Todome No Kiss

Masaki Suda – "Sayonara Elegy"

„ ‚Love bites me and won’t go away.‘/ I can’t believe you whatever you say/ The pain never goes away/ is it the shape of loneliness? “

„Love got me and it isn’t letting me go/ But that doesn’t change anything/ I still feel lonely “

Guess what? Another Time Travel drama xD. But it’s the last one I promise^^. It’s about a guy who only cares about money. A woman appears in front of him and kisses him, which causes him to die but wake up 7 days in the past. He decides to use her for his benefit - but there is no real cold heart in the world^^.

It’s sung by Masaki Suda, of which I’m a big fan. His voice is amazing! The melody is enchanting. I think it has sad vibes, but the melody is so bittersweet pretending not to be lonely. Note: I love singing along to it xD. It is sung with so many feelings, but I just can’t grasp or describe them. I found two translations for this song. I think the first one makes more sense, but as a precaution, I put both here. In the end, it states the same. Just like the protagonist, he is lonely but doesn’t trust in love at all but silently wishes for it.

4. W-Two Worlds

Basick (ft. INKII) – "In the illusion"

„My imagination creates you/ and when I see you, I imagine again/ On this path with no end/ We’re dreaming the same dream/ But why can’t we be together?/ When can it be the same?“

Of course, that’s an OST that can’t be missing. The drama is about a girl who is pulled into the comic her father writes. There she meets the main lead, and they try to figure out the mysterious things that are happening.

And so the song has a lot of meanings to the drama. It again gives away a lot about the story, and that’s what I love. I also like the division. The strophes are rap sung by Basick (male), but the refrain is so beautifully sweet sung by INKII (female). That fits perfectly together. The lyrics are showing how the ML isn’t real, but she is still longing for a future with him, despite knowing they are in two totally different worlds. It’s so bittersweet!

3. Black

Leesa – "Like a film"

„Just one of those/ stories of days/ My dreams behind the clouds/ Empty I feel/ Sorry I say/ No one knows”

This is definitely also one of my favourite dramas. There were a lot of good OST’s, but I choose this one. The drama is about a girl who can see the shadows of death (grim reaper shadows) and a grim reaper who possessed a detective with his purpose. Both work together to save lives and come closer and closer to the truth behind a tragic past. The story has so many twists I would probably need another whole article to summarize the whole story xD.

So Leesa’s song sounds so sad, so hopeless but sung with this sweet voice that overcomes any struggle. “Empty I feel, sorry I say”. Those lyrics are haunting me, I swear. What do those words even mean exactly?! My brain is a mess. “When things are alright/ the moments of our reply” I’m crying! The main girl lost so many loved ones, and she can’t be with the one she loves. Sadly, I can’t write more about it without spoiler. So, I’ll stop here.

2. Kill Me Heal Me

Jang Jae In (ft. NaShow) – "Auditory Hallucinations"

„There are so many hidden things inside of me/ It made me change so much/ It put me to sleep, it tied my hands and feet, It trapped me in a dark room/ The pieces of lost time“

That’s probably an OST y’all can relate to. The drama is about a guy who has 7 personalities. He askes FML, a psychologist for help only to discover she holds the key to his trauma.

Again the song says so much about the drama's story. His trauma is overtaking him. He is helpless when his other personalities come out, but he can’t get a hold of it because of the lost memories. There is so much more into the lyrics! Just like the OST of W, we have a pair here again. Male rap part and female refrain. This seriously sounds good together. As expected, the song sounds kinda nostalgic but hopeful. It sounds like he is the voice of ML, and she is the voice of FML.

1. Eternal Love Of Dream

Su Shiding – "The book of fate"

„The fate book has no words/ but the fragrant ink reads of deep feelings/ Writing those dream words into the bones several times/ afraid only one person will understand “

My number one! It’s a recent drama, and I’m all over it! It’s about the very long and beautiful love story of the high god Dong Hua and the female monarch Feng Jui.

And I need to say that actually, I love ALL OST’s of this drama! The songs are all so beautiful! :) Sung with the amazing voice of Su Shiding (isn’t she beautiful?) the song seems so magical. Alone the lyrics are a kind of art. Like “The fate book has no words/ but the fragrant ink reads of deep feelings” I mean…come on! That’s a masterpiece I feel deep in my heart and think about a lot. It doesn’t really describe the story, it hints the deepest thoughts of the characters. Fate isn’t something that can be predicted but is felt. Although the song is slow, it doesn’t sound sad at all. It sounds like it is telling me a secret legend. It perfectly sets the mood of the drama. With these amazing songs being played, the whole drama becomes even more mystic and special.

I am absolutely in love with the OSTs, including the lyrics, of “Eternal Love of Dream” but also “Ten Miles of peach blossoms”. I would clap at them right now if I wouldn’t use my hands to cover my heart holding all the emotions. ^-^
