Epitome of Satisfaction & Dopamine

As someone relatively new to the K-drama universe, I was admittedly tardy to the phenomenon that is "I'm Not A Robot". When the series became available on Netflix, I initially dismissed it as an unremarkable premise - a touch clichéd, unrealistic, and overly simplistic. Now, however, I must eat my words because "I'm Not A Robot" blew me away with its superlative storytelling and meticulous scene implementation.

The key to this show's brilliance is how it takes a seemingly basic concept and transforms it into a compelling narrative tapestry that is rich, profound, and beautifully nuanced. The seemingly everyday is rendered extraordinary, and the mundane is suddenly filled with awe-inspiring depth. In its clever hands, what I once dismissed as "basic" and "cliché" is elevated to the realm of the extraordinary.

Lead actor Sungho’s portrayal was truly commendable. His acting ability was a veritable masterclass in emotional versatility and depth, making his character come alive in a very touching and relatable way. Yet, "I'm Not A Robot" doesn’t just shine its spotlight on the main leads. It remarkably offers each supporting character their moment of glory, giving them closure and ensuring that nothing is left to the imagination. In this way, it doesn’t just build characters; it builds a universe of interrelated stories that engrosses its audience.

One of the standout scenes that continues to resonate with me, and is a testament to the show's ability to move its audience, is the separation scene at the end of Episode 9. The raw emotion and masterful depiction in those few minutes have left me teary-eyed time and again. It's scenes like these that make "I'm Not A Robot" a show with excellent re-watch value.

The screenwriting also warrants special praise. Not only does it effectively narrate the story, but it also manages to uplift and inspire, creating a mood that is contagiously optimistic and heartwarming. Each line of dialogue, each scene, every episode, has been crafted with precision, making it a delight to watch.

A significant portion of this emotional resonance can be attributed to the perfectly timed and composed OST. The soundtrack played an essential role in amplifying the depth of those emotionally charged scenes, reaching directly into the heart of the viewers and inducing a profound emotional response.

In conclusion, "I'm Not A Robot" is much more than a K-drama; it's a testament to the power of storytelling and the human ability to connect, love, and endure. It's a triumph of character development, plot progression, and emotional depth that I highly recommend to all - whether they are seasoned K-drama viewers or newcomers to the genre. So don’t repeat my initial mistake. Give it a watch and prepare to be amazed!

High on Emotions & Intense romantic drama

Although I am not a sucker for romantic dramas, however this one really hit me hard to the point that during the last few episodes my Smartwatch started giving me alerts for high-stress levels due to acute anxiety! I almost forgot in the middle few episodes that I am actually watching a drama.

The first three dramas are just enough to get you hooked and prep you for the rest of the rollercoaster ride of emotions.

The story articulation and the screenwriting throughout the 14 episodes were heartfelt. The screenplay did not feel rushed and touched on every aspect of emotion from every perspective. However, my anxiety rose in the final episode as I noticed the drama is about to end, and the lead protagonists are still not back together.

I somewhat felt a little disappointed in the ending. It felt a little subdued as it did not meet viewer (mine) expectations after riding such an intense rollercoaster ride. It felt like the ride came to an abrupt halt leaving all its patrons in a state of mixed emotion and confusion.

I would personally feel more satisfied if the last fifteen minutes of the finale could be rewritten to show more passion, tears, family and love. Honestly, this type of ending does not do justice to this beautiful drama.

Nevertheless, this drama has easily made it into my top list of all-time favourites. Not only because this is an excellent watch, but also because I could personally resonate with the story being from India, and having a love marriage with a girl older than me from different background. We also had to go through a similar situation with our families & social stigma but of course less drama.

I am writing this review just after ten minutes of binge-watching the entire drama overnight straight 23+ hours. This is my first ever review of any Korean drama, and I am still unsure why I felt compelled to write something. Perhaps to put my mind at ease.

Cheers

OST is soothing, Drama: Binge-Worthy office romcom in familiar territory

I watched on Netflix where only 8 episodes are available. This is an office romcom that seems to have drunk heavily from the K-drama wellsprings of 'Secretary Kim' and 'Business Proposal.' Despite being only half-released with 8 episodes available at the time of this review, the series manages to feel self-contained, offering viewers a taste of its world, but leaving one yearning for more flavor.

The narrative follows a conventional blueprint, tracing a predictable path through the tropes of its genre. While it can be reassuring to watch a series that adheres to the tried-and-true, this series tends to lack any surprising turns or events. The storyline is straightforward, easy to predict, and almost methodical in its execution, which might be a disappointment for viewers seeking some narrative creativity or unexpected plot twists.

The OST stands out in a pleasing way, although it does bear a striking resemblance to Christina Perri's 'Thousand Years.' It accompanies the scenes fittingly, adding a layer of emotional depth where the narrative may sometimes fall short.

The Instagrammability of the series is noteworthy. Despite being only 8 episodes in, you can already find the best scenes scattered across Instagram, an indication of its bite-sized appeal.

The true highlight of this drama a passionate kiss, is a significant moment that makes the viewing experience worth it - at least once. For fans like myself who typically enjoy office romcoms, this scene definitely offers a sense of satisfaction. However, with the lack of narrative complexity and surprise, the show doesn't offer much in terms of re-watch value.

The series attempts to diversify its storyline with the inclusion of an Arab character. However, this subplot feels exaggerated, almost as if it's trying too hard to inject novelty into the series. This could have been executed with more nuance and realism.

Despite its shortcomings, this k-drama its purpose as a mood-lifter. It's a light, enjoyable watch that doesn't require much emotional or intellectual investment. This could be a positive or a negative, depending on what you're looking for in your viewing experience.

The hope for the remaining 8 episodes is that they bring something different and exciting to the table. The series has laid a predictable yet solid foundation, and it's now up to the remaining half to build upon this and deliver a memorable viewing experience.

In conclusion, 'King The Land' is a drama that doesn't stray far from the conventional. But if you're in the mood for a light, easy watch, this series might just do the trick.
