You will wish it had a season 2!
As a fan of the original Manga and the more recent Anime, I started watching this series with expecting to be let down.Instead, not only I really appreciated the fresh take and the cast of characters, but the visual effects and general direction of the story are very high quality. It also kept the important soul of the original story, which is giving importance to the real plot of the story, about human condition and the relationship of humans and their environment.
Overall it left me with a very positive message and wishing for a season 2 asap. You can watch this even without knowing the original story, I'd even say it will leave with wanting to know more, so you might check out either the original Manga, the Anime, or even the recent Japanese movies. I can't wait to see more, what a nice surprise this was!

This show beat my prejudice towards it
I heard about this show from the several blogs and news articles about the record viewers and also the high ratings. I'm usually very critical of this, especially because usually my personal taste clashes with that of the general K-Drama audience. But wow, what a surprise this was.I'm not going to do a spoiler review here, because I believe part of the joy of this show is to see the events unfold. Many common tropes were used, but that is not a negative when done well. I really took my time to reflect on the characters and their choices as I went along, and it was a really enjoyable exercise. I find myself enriched after this show, although with a clump of nostalgia and sadness somewhere within, like losing a dear person you won't be able to meet again. I really enjoyed the male MC, maybe a bit too perfect, but someone I'd aspire to be as a man in many ways.
Regardless of it all, I suggest you give it a shot. The episodes are pretty lengthy, but that is something I learned to love of K-Drama.
