The actress He Sai Fei's performance as the mother in this show has received mixed reviews. I find her character reminiscent of Bennet's mother in Pride and Prejudice. I admit I did take a page out of the suggestion and skipped a lot of the areas where she was in the story. I believe that this story is underrated in many respects. It isn't a typical boy meets girl and falling in love story, though it is in there and the couples are great and worth your time. You'll find that the romance element takes a back seat to the family and character development. This isn't just a generational gap story. Yes, this is featured and causes strife in the drama. It's lovely to see how this element was handled by the writers. It's certainly not a Cinderella story. Xu Kai's character Yao Zhi Ming isn't the white knight you expect, his growth and emotional growth are lovely to watch. This story reminds me of a Jane Austen novel, with its rich character development, cultural aspects, family dynamics, class struggles, and of course, the complexities of love.
