This is my first historical C-Drama I’ve ever watched, and now that I’m finished with it, I can’t seem to find any dramas like this one where it has a great storyline, cast, acting and soundtrack. I was skeptical at first due to it being a tragedy, and being a historical C-drama as I’ve never been interested in historical dramas. And I’m pleased to say that I’m glad I did watch this drama.

Eps. 1-12 are the best as we’re being introduced into the characters and the relationship between Xiao Feng and Gu Xiao Wu/Li Chengyin is blossoming. The firefly scene, following up with the wolf and wedding scenes where one of my favorite moments of the whole drama. The drama began to drag after they both lose their memories and I began to skip parts that involved political issues however, watching the two leads fall in love all over again kept me going.

The chemistry and acting in this drama just BLEW me out of this universe. Although the two leads are newbie actors, they did an amazing job of portraying their characters. It was a constant rollercoaster of sadness, betrayal, denial (at least for me), and more. There were times where I’d watch Peng Xiaoran’s crying scenes, and it made me feel so uncomfortable and sad to just watch her cry and be so devastated but not be able to do anything about her situation. Chen Xingxu’s crying scene at the very end was just so amazing, he literally deserves an award for it. After shooting that scene, the whole crew and Peng Xiaoran had to snap him out of character because he was just so heartbroken. There were also times where he acted so well as LCY, where it was SCARY to see him pull off this psycho that could be so obsessive over XF, and even kill to be able to control her.

The soundtrack was amazing, as I still listen to it on repeat. The Fox song has such an amazing story that goes right along with this drama.
The only problems that I really had with the drama was that LCY seemed to take his ‘acting’ of dislike towards XF too far at times. I did not like Sese, and although I love Peng Xiaoran’s acting of XF, they made her character look too foolish at times. I don’t understand why XF has to use her life as a way to prevent war, but it’s a tragedy.

Overall, this drama is worth the 10 stars. There aren’t too much sweet moments/scenes after they fall in love the first time, but they do have their moments here and there as they fall in love again the second time around. It’s a drama that definitely leaves you lingering and wanting more despite the tragic ending.
