Groundbreaking empathetic BL with a big heart
SCOY is the groundbreaking BL that the BL world needed.. effeminate/feminine/non binary gay characters who have been always casted as side characters and comic relief get their love stories and shine in this show. Not only that it gives a lot of relatable moments for introverts like me who live half of their lives in their head because they are too afraid of confronting reality. Seng potrayed Toh's comically flawed introvert character with so much empathy.
The show is exaggerated on purpose - so that a lot of concepts which was not shown in BLs before can ne introduced..it gives you second hand embarrassment, makes you cry, laugh, deliriously happy and in general reminds us the absurdism of life. Episode 1-3 is kind of a buildup with a lot of cringe moments from our airhead Toh but 4th episode onwards the show just goes to another level. It does not take itself seriously, and asks the audience to do the same.
Also for a larger than life absurd comedy genre, this show has a lot of heart, toe curling chemistry and insanely hot kiss scenes.
