As Mhok said, "why does it end like this?"
The first 9 episodes were 10/10. The cinematography was amazing, as well as the emotion, like in episode 5 with the flowers and memorial bridge, and especially episode 9 at the end when Day and Mhok are at the top of the mountain (that scene alone was just like 100/10).
Day was really unlikable to me, but for the plot I think his character was almost perfect. It was just annoying when Mhok kept trying to be sweet and just help him throughout the series but then Day is just acting like a brat- but his character development throughout the series was decent. I think though that he was very irrational at the end when he decided to break up with Mhok just because Mhok wanted to stay with him and not go to the States. If they had just talked about it like adults instead of Mhok but accepting it and Day crying to his mom it would have actually been so much better. Overall the breakup was so unnecessary and didn't feel like it had any reason to it.
When they were on the mountain at the end of the 9th episode it would've been a perfect spot to end the show. I know that it would have left the show ending abruptly, with not knowing about the eye donation and everything else but it really didn't need the last 3 eps. I think the backlash for ending at episode 9 would be less than a lot of the comments about the actual ending. Ig after episode 9 wasn't a complete waste though, I liked the 10th episode even though a lot of it was sad. (I was devastated when I thought that the new caretaker got rid of the fish slippers)
But the ending felt like a complete waste of the show tbh. 12 hours of watching just for it to have like 2 mins actually showing him having his eyesight back for the first time??? It feels like it was just moved on from the whole point too quickly especially with the 3 year cut. The ending was happy but there wasn't as much emotion as compared to when they were on the mountain and Mhok was "the last thing" that Day saw. At first when it was said that the last page was ripped out of the Last Twilight book, I thought that it was going to be like that for the show. If it ended at episode 9 there could've been that connection to the book and the series (apart from the obvious connection with the stories).
It was really amazing and one of my favorites so far, but the ending just wasn't it.
