The story was great with a few glitches toward the end.
The female actress matched the male in a very synchronized, natural way.
This kind of acting and show is what I most enjoy in Chinese dramas. I hope to see the actor go far in his career and get cast in such quality dramas.
Even with a few screenwriting details one could critique, it was still very tight and well done.

It's light, silly, and funny.
Like another comment, I wish it was longer, like 20 minutes for each episode, but I do enjoy these mini series.
This kind of watch is for a single sitting.

This is the first Korean drama I ever watched. It did not disappoint; on the contrary, it transported my imagination to another world and dazzled my senses. There is something very special about the cast. It feels authentic and organic. Each character retains his or her own identity without confusion as to what he or she is supposed to do or act like.I love the temperaments of the main characters.
I love the free-roaming royal.
I love the story and overarching themes of loyalty and friendship and love. These are portrayed very well in the form of storytelling.
There is something special about the bond between childhood friends who are there for one another day in and day out, in the convenient and inconvenient times and trials of life.
I love this story so much!

Truly a well done story
This 8-episode drama was too good. I imagine that most viewers share my sad feeling when it was ending and wished for a season 2.The main lead actor was fenominal in his portrayal.
The story didn't drag.
The showcasing of a man taking care of life's demands, pressures, and responsibilities was the highlight of my viewer experience. I greatly came to admire and like the main lead.

Mini series, very light and sweet
I hope more vibes like this one that the main actors gave to this drama will come to more dramas.The female actress is truly unique, which I liked to see. Her comedy is on point and very funny! I would love to watch her do comedy again.
The male lead is also different from the typical male cast in dramas, which makes him special for that reason alone.
I really liked the pacing of the story.
I liked how the writer(s) avoided unnecessary mind games and showed the characters being pretty straightforward with their feelings and intentions.

I am on 16 of 20 episodes, and I just had to give this drama a 10 rating!It is very entertaining and fun and addicting!
The acting, the story, the drama, the suspense, the music- all very good. I love it!
This is going in my top 3 favorite ancient costume Korean dramas!

This is what drama should be!
This is up there with Alchemy of Souls and The Untamed. It was riveting. Every actor and actress played their part to perfection.The story is genius level. The characters are impeccably written and fleshed out. I pretty much forgot the actors were acting...kind of.
The costumes, the scenes, the props...everything was perfect. It leaves me wondering why most dramas aren't to this caliber. And why hasn't everyone heard of this drama?
I discovered "Ancient Detective" practically by accident. It's what I always want to watch, and I loved the male lead and his loyal friend.
