Fantastic revenge drama with great cast!

This is a good drama with nice pacing. I got the kdrama vibes in the first few episodes because of the background music. This drama reminded me off Huajai Sila and Innocent Man. This one is even better than Huajai Sila because the way the male lead here makes step-by-step plans for his goal is more realistic and interesting.
There are not forced kisses, and the romance developed naturally between the main leads. The relationship building and plot development are just right. It'd have been better if the female lead had been more clever and confident. She never dared to fight for her rights whenever her adoptive mother and fiancee bullied her. I hoped to see her character development in the middle of the drama, but it happened only in the last episode. Osts are not memorable enough, which is expected from Ch 7 lakorns.
But I didn't have to skip many scenes just like other Thai lakorns as there are less catfights and yelling, but more content that mean something to the plot. The most impressive thing about this drama is Donut's acting. I could feel his happiness, sadness, longing and hate though his eyes and facial expressions. At first, I didn't expect much from him but I was surprised that he could perform even better than some famous actors. Prapye did a good job as well. Despite their young age, both main leads could carry the heavy plot and bring their characters into life successfully. Honestly, they deserve more fame and good roles in the near future. Their chemistry is also amazing. Hope to see a new romance drama of these two.
I highly recommend this drama. It is really worth a watch!

Obsessive but romantic CEO and gullible female lead!

The story was about twin sisters who had the same face but totally different personalities. FL had to pretend to be her sister who was a successful producer in the entertainment industry when the latter was heavily injured in a hit-and-run accident. ML had a crush on FL since they were young so he came up with schemes to force her to live under the same roof. FL was a normal damsel in distress and ML was a knight in shining armor who carried the burden of saving the FL every time she got into trouble. The plot twist here was that ML was not a typical kind-hearted hero who just wanted his beloved to be happy. He can be crafty in every possible way to win the girl's heart. However, he was fully devoted to her and his love for her was consistent throughout the series. I really enjoyed their love story. I did not take an interest in the supporting characters though and I skipped most parts because of the numerous evil love rivals of ML and FL. However, I was pleasantly surprised at my enjoyment of this drama until the last four episodes which aggravated me beyond endurance. I would have given an 8.5 rating to this if they had not focused on the FL's childhood friend in these episodes.

This is not the first time for me to watch Luo Zheng's drama but he seems to have captured my attention and admiration only in this drama. He is undeniably so handsome and he has the potential to become one of those A-list actors. He could portray his dark character very well and his eyes showed his deep love for the FL every time he looked at her. Some people may have the impression that his character is very creepy and manipulative to the point that he does not deserve to be in a serious relationship with FL. From my perspective, he rather gave the vibes of a manipulative boyfriend from time to time, especially during the times he discreetly attempted to get close to the FL. Despite that, I quite liked his shrewd and mysterious character. I could not help falling for him when he judiciously made careful plans to achieve his objectives in both his love life and business. In addition, I quite admired his unconditional love for the FL (though this kind of love would be quite controversial in reality.) Nevertheless, his obsession for her did not breed psychotic behaviors like harassing the girl when they have disputes or stalking her all the time and appearing out of nowhere whenever FL was distressed in the way that the second male leads in other Asian series do.

Suffice it to say that FL was the worst character here. Don't take it amiss just because I criticized her character strongly. I honestly love Rain Wang and her depiction of the characters but her main character was so poorly written that she looked like a 10-year-old girl. I understand that there can be not-so-smart FLs but her naivety and lack of reasoning skills to solve problems were too much. Even until the end, she was not able to deal with the crisis that was brought on by her childhood friend. Moreover, her career path was not expressed by the writer clearly either. The writer did FL character dirty in the entire series so badly. (I could not stand her dubbed voice as well. It was so irritating.)

This series was apparently made on a shoestring budget because there was no single decent OST song. However, I appreciate that they did not repeat an annoying melody throughout the whole series, which is an everyday thing in some low-budget series. On the other hand, ML and FL were lucky to have good designers for them since most of their clothes were suited for their roles and each scene in the series.
Overall, I would recommend "Nothing but You" to anyone who is into obsessive male leads and a cute love story with several sweet moments between the main couple. Plus, the chemistry of the main couple here was wonderful and very believable. However, if you cannot stomach annoyingly evil characters and naive FL, this drama may not be for you.

Rare gem hard to come by!

My overall impression of this drama is pretty favorable allowing for the fact that this is set in the Republican era. This is because Mystic Nine was the only series that is branded upon my memory as a well-executed Chinese Republican drama before coming across Fall in Love. I am quite impressed at the writer's foresight and astute move in creating the personalities and identities of the characters here. Although it was beyond my understanding how this type of plot based on a part of China's history could pass the strict censorship, the unfolding of the rest of the plot shed light on the answer to my question.

I would like to take my hat off to Chen Xing Xu for his terrific and unfailing acting skills. His changing facial expressions and portrayal of the character are top-notch. I was fond of the second male lead here in Crush, and I still am but when he and CXX appeared on screen together, it was apparent that CXX was more attractive with his charms and wonderful acting skills. I truly admire his flexibility and versatility in playing his characters, and I would think that there is no Chinese actor to set beside him as a villainous male lead. As shrewd male leads are on my favorite characters list, I enjoyed watching how the male lead did not play by the rules to fulfill his goals. Nevertheless, he did not go beyond the bounds of morality and was always be careful about the people around him. He did not make impetuous decisions just to aggravate the audience which is an essential element in some Chinese dramas.

As I have given enough appreciation toward the male lead's character, I will discuss the female lead and the reasons for my support for her character. I could say she is the best female lead in a modern/Republican Chinese series that I have ever watched (and probably that they have ever produced). She is not those female leads who are old enough to get married but think like a child of the Stone Age (because most children today are clever enough as adults). She could make considerations in a logical way, knew how to deal with her enemies, and make a pact with the stranger who she thought she could trust to survive the ordeals of living in a dangerous place. Most importantly, her strongest charm was being humble and communicative despite her high social status and intelligence. As far as I know, modern Chinese dramas are apt to be extreme in building the female leads' attributes. They are either super dumb or super independent to the point of being over-arrogant.

The third feature of this series that I particularly love is the mature relationship of the main couple. They were mutually helpful and supportive even during the times when they could not be together. They were able to stand to face the problems and horrors of the atrocious situations calmly and strongly. Although their first meeting was not a smooth start, they did not relent on their trust in one another once they were able to understand each other completely.

There is no character that I hated here as all of the characters carried out the objectives that came with their nature. Xu Guang Yao and Gu Yue Shuang are my second favorite characters as I love the main couple's characters equally. They did not turn bad because of their obsession with the male lead and female lead just like the secondary roles in other Chinese series. They were true to themselves and remained loyal and sincere throughout the whole plot. Although their characters were just frosting on the cake, I really enjoyed watching them.

As to the story, the beginning episodes were thrilling and addicting but began to lost momentum after those episodes. However, it was still fairly engaging in the middle, but quite boring at the latter part. The romance of the main couple was also better in the beginning part. Regarding the ost songs, they were not remarkable. Sway in the Wind by Fang Ni Liu was the single song that I liked and craved to listen to after watching the drama, and it piqued me that they did not play that song in the scenes between Xuan Lin and Wan Qing. All in all, this is a worth-watching series that I did not regret spending my spare time on.
